At 7:48 after h6 by black, why not simple capture the knight with Bxh4 instead of Ne4? @elasiduo1084 жыл бұрын
As this game shows, even Morphy can be overconfident and blow an advantage. Having the Exchange in your favor is very good, but you also need to keep an eye in your weaknesses, and Morphy ignored the avance of the h-pawn. When I was watching the game, I thought: "Well, Kg3, no problem", but I almost fell to the floor when he played "Ke3??". The passed pawn now has an open road, and the light squared bishop is dominating all the diagonal, ready to support. Morphy then was forced to return the Exchange, with a less active king, and worse pawn structure, leading to disaster. The lesson is: even when you are winning, be careful: as Lasker, one of the greatest chess fighters of history, once said: "The hardest game to win is a won game".
