I found this game, which is actually 80 moves not 90, so it's probably not the one agad was talking about, but it was played in 1858, which i think is when this match was played? If anyone knows for sure or if anyone has the actual game agad was talking about pls let me know. www.chessgames.com/perl/chessgame?gid=1281900 This is the game i found, either way it's a bit of fun to look at I think.

I've watched that very long games and if I remember correctly I think it was 93 or 95 moves though I lost count to be honest. But it was by no means dull or maybe loewenthal resigned after 75 odd moves and would have gone to90+ in endgame. I'm sorry I don't remember

The position was never seen after that game, as suggested by the database that Antonio uses. Means, even if the position was reached, it may have been in a not so popular game.

Hey agad, quick question. I really like that you've added the "as of now, this position has never been reached again," but when you do that for completely new positions in modern chess, you throw in little tidbits like, "Svidler had this position in 2012 against Aronian and..." I would love to know about the reverse too. Like, "as late as 1957, X had this position against Y, but generally later players have played such and such improvement instead."
