Knotts didnt have a crush. He was a bit romantically smitten with Louise because he asked her out. Big difference.

Don Knotts obviously was going on Tina's looks alone. Tina was not true with Don about giving him false hope for that year. There would not be anything wrong with just saying "no". Don, I'm sure, soon got over it and moved on with his life. Perhaps they may have asked their agents whether or not a work project may have worked out between them instead?

Most likely she did this to not hurt his feelings but doing this for a year was not cool. She could have ended the calls for a date with a much kinder excuse without giving more hope. But she missed out on what would have been a great time with Don Knott's regardless.

He likely did try with Dawn but she was too classy to blabber mouth about it. Tina Louise on the other hand likely told many people about leading Don Knotts on. She has always seemed vapid to me.

@@averydaymond1560 Tina was strange. Russel Johnson said they had the chance to make money doing appearances. But it required all of them, and Tina wouldn't do it. I'd have showed up with the woman who played her in the pilot.

@@DennisMSulliva Yes and Russel Johnson hardly ever bad mouthed anyone, but clearly Tina deserved to be the exception and his critique. If Tina Louise had been born in the early 2000s she’d be a “influencer” or clinging to the shallow crowds of a Kardashian.
