Great biography. My nephew received the Van Steuben award in 2012 when he graduated West Point. The award was a pair of swords mounted in a glass case with Van Steuben’s info engraved. It was a very exciting award ceremony. Van Steuben’s contribution to the US armed forces are remembered today.

I appreciate your insightful presentation on von Steuben. Being of German descent, a history enthusiast, and a passport collector (featured on this channel), my knowledge about him was limited. You've broadened my understanding, prompting me to research further. Initially, I associated "Founding Fathers" solely with those who signed the Declaration of Independence, but your presentation led me to explore its broader meaning. Now, I'm intrigued to find a document signed by von Steuben. Consider me a new follower. Cheers!

I went to Von Steuben High School in Chicago in the 70's. They never taught us a thing about him. Sad.

I believe that his name is pronounced "Stoyben", not "Stewben".

The gay part is so incidental to his amazing accomplishments. He is a war hero and leader.

you missed the part about familiarity with young boys? Additionally, what if he wasn't gay and everything was a lie?

It is true that sometimes God will use Godless men to do great things. I thank our Gracious God for this man who gave his all in pursuit of independence, and the rights prescribed in our Constitution.

Was he doing it for just personal gain, fame and fortune? Could be true but in his own words his "only object" and "greatest ambition" was to "render your Country all the Services in my Power, and to deserve the title of the Citizen of America by fighting for the Cause of your Liberty."

To what extent did Von Steuben, not Washington himself, have the soldiers of the Continental Army ferociously and proudly creating their country's state and freedom! And how about La Fayette's and his country France's help? -and the foot soldier gripping his rifle? A resounding HUGE AND FOREVER THANK YOU, to all the great and common men alike helping create the young country America!!

The French government only helped us to weaken the british, but Lafayette came over here on his own at 18 learning English on the way here and volunteered for service without pay. That man is a fucking hero. And they raise an American flag over Lafayette's grave in Paris every morning and take it down every night. He was such a great man that even the German soldiers when occupying Paris in WW2 were ordered by their commander to raise the American flag over his tomb, despite being at war with France and America
