@601271 I love that, as soon as a band changes their sound, everyone instantly assumes it was to sell more records & be more popular. In the case of Mastodon, do you really think they care about appealing to a wider audience? They already had a massive fanbase after Blood Mountain.They didn't try something different because of a need for more fans; they did it because... they wanted to.

@macaframa12 I wouldn't say playing music you don't like to play, but they definetely changed there sound for a bigger audience. There sound is so different from ALL there other stuff it barely sounds like the same band anymore

@EdensIrony id say the voice, people say they sound similar because the singer's singing is simliar to that of mastodons, and people say maston came first so they believe baroness is copying them. It is because of this that i personally believe thats why Blue Record sounds different in terms of the singing, i think baroness caught wind of that rumor.

@kevin2849 Baroness, They complete me, As mastodon in my opinion sold out a lot on their most recent record. IT SOUNDS NOTHING LIKE THEIR PREVIOUS SONGS! How does a band change SO much? Mastodon was my fav. til crack the skye, then i discovered Baroness. = )

@601271 Welcome to the world of progressive rock/metal. If they did the same things they did on their older albums it would get boring really quick. Progressive bands tend to lean towards the progression of music. It's just a different sound. No reason to keep you up at night. If you don't like it too bad. Mastodon wanted to move in a different direction for their new album and it's completely understandable. Imagine if all DaVinci did was paint the Mona Lisa. Let the artist breathe, dude.

@macaframa12 zomg, it's about to go down. I found mastodon shortly after blood mountain, i quickly became obsessed and began frantically looking up ALL their material, Mother puncher, march of the fire ants, Iron tusk, Hail to fire, slick leg, etc. Please do not tell me what i do and do not know about Mastodon they WERE my favorite band til they Slowed there shit down to a dull roar and stopped packing there music with amazing energy and dynamics. FOR A FACT, I own the Crack the skye CD

@macaframa12 And i DO NOT Listen to it anymore because Divinations is about the only song on that album that resembles what they ONCE were. You cannot sit there and tell me crack the sky has the same amount of thrash, energy, and amazing dynamics, growls and yells they once included in there songs. Maybe you should be the one listening to their material, maybe then you might understand that crack the skye is pretty much some of their SLOWEST unenergetic album EVER! BTW I never said there stuff

@macaframa12 Dude I don't understand how you can say i have no respect for good music. First of all I DO respect good music. I respect mastodon and their crack the skye album. All i said was they sound nothing like there old stuff. I've watched a lot of mastodon shit on youtube including that video. Mastodon used to be my favorite band. I know the concept of crack the sky, space travel, spirits, etc. I know mastodon.

He sounds pretty good in studio, but I admit that he sounds pretty nasaly and grumpy most of the time during live shows.

@601271 you must not know shit about mastodon. They still have ALOT of the same sound, you just dont take time to actually listen past the first minute probably. And you think this shit brings a bigger audience??? . This shit is no more attractice to the pop culture than the other albums. You need to listen to Oblivion, Divinations, The last baron, and Crack the skye. Go check out those songs and listen to them all the way through,and hear the heavy sounds and complex riffs they have always had

They sound like they are stealing masotodon tones, but doing it wrong. And seriously that guy need's a different bass, the tone is ugly.
