The fourth installment of my 5000 mile solo road trip to the Balkans.
In this episode i push on through Switzerland and into Austria - highs and lows of a day in the saddle.
Permission to Torque is a Mental Health movement set up to show others that you "get it" by displaying a discrete symbol for others to take comfort in. Its not about sitting around in a circle feeling sorry for yourself, its about shared experience and getting out there to find out what makes us happy - this is the aim of my trip and why I am sharing it on KZbin, the good days and the inevitable bad ones too.
I hope you enjoy the journey with me and find it at least vaguely useful! :)

I couldn't stop wondering what "shiver me timbers meant" so I goggled it for everyone. 'In heavy seas, ships would be lifted up and pounded down so hard as to "shiver" the timbers, startling the sailors. Such an exclamation was meant to convey a feeling of fear and awe, similar to, "Well, blow me down!"'

Loving these vids, cheers for making them... I bought the exact same bike as you roughly at the same time from Motorrad in Manchester. Test rode the triple black but bought a white one off the showroom with the all important gold wheels :) Awesome bike, I love it, even though I am only a mere 5'10" in heels. My favourite GSA moment so far has been blasting through a water obstacle under a bridge just outside Manchester... Bloke following me on a supermoto decided to take the less flooded pavement route instead. GSA Life.

Hi Chris, That ticking noise on your 1250 GS is exactly the same as mine was doing turns out there’s a modified cam chain tensioner for the left cylinder, maybe worth checking if yours has it? You can tell by the size of the nut head of the tensioner left to right the modified one has a larger nut head If not it’s you center stand banging on the frame 😂

I think faith in something greater can be comforting and can be very positive if it leads you to get outside of our own self... BUT... but but but... too often it lets people do terrible things to others and just shrug it off as "well this ancient book I read but only absorbed the things that support my hate tells me it's ok to do this thing". In a world where such terrible things are done in the name of faith... I've decided I just don't buy it all anymore. Switzerland looks amazing... not sure I'd do well with the huge speeding fines though... very curious about Austria since I've never been there (yet).

I’ve been watching your videos for a bit now , really discovered you on 44 teeth, and I have never commented on your videos but what you said in this one prompted me to add to what you said about faith. Religion has been misguided imo. Divisive even, Rather spirituality is what can bring us all together. Here you are in this beautiful back drop and in times such as these I can appreciate the simplistic beauty in where you are, what your doing, and what type of person you are. It has to be said that your a unique individual with a special sense of humor that brings light into peoples lives, I thank you…. If your ever state side I would love to meet up and ride, need a flat for the night look me up. Cheers!

Hey..Missed your tour series when you released them so picking them up a few months later... life traumas got in the way as I'm sure you can relate to that. This series should be on TV, a channel should pick this up and run it, if they can do something with two guys on a narrow boat just canal exploring then a euro tour by your good self who is far better to camera then something is wrong with the world. Hope things are running even for you and peace is in the head and heart.

Excellent video as usual, question?. In the USA we usually give other motorcycles a two finger wave (two wheels down wave). I noticed in this video that most riders are generally waving as they pass with a standard open hand wave. Is that how it is over there? Thanks again for the awesome videos on your trip through Europe.

Consider throwing the GoPro Batteries in the bin and just plug in a USB from your bike or a battery pack, your SD card is then your limit. Just remember to put your battery pack on charge at the end of the day on these trips if you go that route. You get used to plugging!

Hi Chris, I would like to quote some words from Rilke that come to my mind reflecting my own "journey". What moves me One should let things have their own, silent undisturbed development, that comes deeply from within and cannot be forced or accelerated by anything. All is full-born and then bear...1 Maturing as the tree, that does not push its saps and stands staunchly in the storms of spring, without fear that after it perhaps a summer would not come. Yet it comes! However, it comes only to the patient ones, who are there, as if eternity lies before them, so careless, quiet and wide... One should be patient with the unresolved in the heart, and attempt to love the questions themselves, like closed rooms,24 and like books, that in a very special language have been written. What matters is to live everything. When one lives the questions, one will maybe live gradually without noticing, on a special day, into the answer.

That’s anxiety mate , something to do with the fear of looking daft in front of people maybe. I used to get it and it but not just in those situations but I would overthink everything and then sensationalise the worst possible outcome which would lead to more anxiety. I found exercise and also meditation worked for me. It’s not perfect now but I’ve learned to control my mind from worrying about the future so much.

Google does some funny business sometimes. Went into Croatia last year trying to not go through the big border crossing or toll roads ... the roads it took were adventurous .. on the edge sometimes with just a basic sedan stuffed with shit and family of four. Still good fun at the end but we took the "regular" road on our way home lol.
