The third installment of my 5000 mile solo road trip to the Balkans.
In this episode i hear a funny noise which will now toy with me for the next 4600 miles and enter Switzerland for the first time since "the incident"
Permission to Torque is a Mental Health movement set up to show others that you "get it" by displaying a discrete symbol for others to take comfort in. Its not about sitting around in a circle feeling sorry for yourself, its about shared experience and getting out there to find out what makes us happy - this is the aim of my trip and why I am sharing it on KZbin, the good days and the inevitable bad ones too.
I hope you enjoy the journey with me and find it at least vaguely useful! :)

The pop is the ignition cut for the ShiftCam mechanism, and your ticking issue can be resolved by fitting BMW's revised (longer) left cylinder cam chain tensioner. Ride safe!

Is that why the RR with shiftcam also tics?
@user-oi7vx1in5x
@user-oi7vx1in5x Жыл бұрын
@@mitchxr2112 Not sure! The issue on the 1250 boxer is excessive cam chain slap in the left cylinder. It is not known to cause a catastrophic failure, however, the ticking is annoying especially at lower RPM and deceleration at low speeds.

@mitchxr2112 My XR used to tick and then i warrantied a timing chain. Still ticked at certain RPMs. Was told its just a noisy enginge so i started ignoring it. They did show me another brand new bike than sounded the same if that is any consolation.
@mitchxr2112
@mitchxr2112 Жыл бұрын
@@bogdanmoisi8434 My gen 2 xr is noticable quieter then my previous rr & r. Those were indeed the characteristics of those engines. Although i noticed the new engine in the RR tics louder. Hence the question of the shiftcam.

Right, I need to talk here... I love watching your videos. Takes me away from my shit. Life is really hard after loosing my Mum to a horrendous murder in 2010. Watching your videos keeps my brain away from it and keeps me semi sane. Watched you from day one and I love when I see a notification that you have posted. You are a really down to earth guy that gives me some cracking laughs. Just hope you see this. Don't expect a reply. Just hope you know you are doing some amazing things to keep others sane and happy(er) than usual. Keep posting because it is 100% needed by some of us. Top man. Ps Love my permission to torque sticker... And anyone else that is struggling with life.... Hit me up. I'm always free to talk and to be here for others that aren't able to deal with things going on. Helping others with mental health issues or problems is one thing I love doing after having help from others to help me. One Love Chris ❤️

Hey Barron. Good stuff after suffering very badly for a few years, I’m now on top off it, mostly down to my wife who basically forced me to seek help. Via combat stress. I wouldn’t except it could change any thing. After much talking with a professional. It did! While not out of it properly, I’m a whole lot better. Main thing is for me is not wanting to go back down. So keep doing things from small to big. A whole lot of people are in a far worse place and that put a lot of guilt on me, which kinda helped in a bizarre way. Stay safe out.

You say it as it is and that is refreshing in todays age and yes, us Men appreciate seeing a fine young lady along the way as well. I have been watching another biker you tuber as he tours around Canada with his missus and it bores me stupid and someone commented that it was like watching your mates wedding video, it’s that bad. Your videos are in another league and that’s what keeps us bikers together. Keep it up 👍

I was in Switzerland on the GS earlier this year and set off at least 2 speed cameras. I got complacent from driving round the rest of Europe and wasn't warned before I went. The Grimsel pass is absolutely spectacular. Up there with some of the best roads I have driven and I had a nice ferrari to race down the back... Thankfully there were no police there at that point... Needless to say I'm shitting my pants for going back!

The ticking noise sounds like the tiniest bit of tolerance in the piston or bearings or maybe even valve train. The valves might need adjusting slightly. It will go for thousands of miles like that anyway. Try using Shell Advance 10w40, at the next oil change
