Get some wobble joint extensions for your socket set ( I'm not talking about flex extensions or the one's that look like universal or CV joints). They look like normal extensions but have a tapered end, when you install a socket all the way they're a standard extension but if you pull the socket out a bit it can wobble around. Perfect for doing those spark plugs.

My FPV Typhoon F6 number123 , had oil in the first two plug galleys . It was from the VCT Actuators leaking slightly. I have now fitted a delete kit and vernier cam gears from Atomic Performance. Engine response is much improved. My car is one of only two here in UK. I found a 6 inch extension with universal joint gets rear plug fine. Keep up with the Barra thing. I love mine.

In the UK? That's cool! Thanks for the info. From memory I didn't see any oil trails from the VCT solenoids so I think mine were from the spark plug seals.

@@MotoringBoxTV Yes. I'm a very lucky man to be campaigning a BA Barra over here. I purchased it from a guy who imported two of them with the intention of supplying tuning parts etc for them via Dreamscience but he was told not to import anymore as they don't meet UK SPEC. So a rare beast here. Your vids are excellent and helpful. Mine does feature on a you tube clip. If you type Dreamscience Typhoon. That's mine.

Another common issue with the BA-BF Sean that causes a poor idle or surge in idle on the 4.0 is actually the throttle body which is another issue on the BA-BF. And normally with a clean with some throttle body cleaner and a brush and cleaning the butterfly. Will sort out a poor idle

@@xlr8g2 use the Nulon brand based cleaner i find it's the best one and its safe to use on fly by wire throttle bodys the only thing with the fly by wire throttle bodys is you need to have the key in the run/on position and a block of wood on the throttle body to open the butterfly use a tooth brush and clean both sides of the butterfly as well as sides of the butterfly. And also give the throttle body a scrub and spray to. Once you put everything back together and start the car you may find it has trouble starting or stalls or runs on a few cylinders. This may last up to 30 seconds while the solvent burns away then car will run normal.

Perfect timing! My replacement coil packs arrived today for my BA Fairmont. There's an awful engine hesitation when you hit the accelerator. It clears itself once it gets to speed. Non existent when you drive with normal power. Cleaned throttle body and MAP sensor and changed spark plugs. Only have intake manifold gasket or coils to try now... Cheers for this great video.

When it's cold, try flooding the intake with carby cleaner, it will take a little bit to start but it will blow allot of gunk out.. give a few revs, repeat the process until the exhaust passes clear. That will improve your idle.

I had same issue basically happen on my 2007 BF2 Fairmont Ghia for the last 2mths . On mine while driving the speedo needle would drop to zero, the ABS, Stability control an Brake system fault (!) Would light up. Pull over turn off engine restart all good for a while . Could be an hour could be a few days before it did it again. Anyway today got the same repair done above you did . New spark plugs an coils. ( got all genuine Ford parts Urideium Spark plugs). Car is DEFINITELY smoother when accelerating. Quiter when idling also. Did a good 50km test drive. A interesting fact to I have done 234,000km on the Original spark plugs. I was told they should have been changed at 100,000km. I was never told that . Car has run beautiful for the 14 years I have owned it. So I think that is awesomely impressive 234,000km on the original spark plugs. Maybe as I estimate 70% of its driving or 80% has been Freeway/ Highway speeds is why they lasted so long.

The main issues I had with my XR6T were front brake calipers always warping. When I bought my MKI back in 2005 it was only 18 months old and still under warranty. Every service the dealer would re-grind the rotors but refused to upgrade to vented discs. I only owned it for 2 ½ years and I never experienced any other problems with it. Great video as always Sean. Thank you. :-)

Just fixed a rough idle and a misfire in my EL Falcon. After asking around everywhere about injector replacement/cleaning and cleaning plugs and checking plug leads It ended up being a crack in the inlet manifold Gasket. A Quick test to check for air leaks is to spray some Parts cleaner along the manifold gasket, if it makes the engine idle worse you have an Air leak.

Removed my plugs on Ba Barra awhile ago.Two Tips Label wires before removing.and spray some wd 40 or a like and let it soak for an hour if you don,t know how long the plugs have been in.The longer the plugs are in the more carbon build up.If when removing plugs you notice it gets a bit tight stop and go the other way.... repeat tighten loosen motion and use wd 40. Cheaper than rushing it and stripping a spark plug thread

Thanks for your detailed and informative DIY video! I've seen a few other videos where they'll just pull a couple of the front plugs and then just jump to the end when they're all out and then make an off-the-cuff comment like "gee that last one was a bastard to get out alright" however not give the viewer any insights as to how they actually achieved the task (ie, your trick using the 2x short extensions). That oil can get to that spot if someone spills a bit while filling the oil filler (common), and the gasket is not in perfect position. I am pretty sure that is the explanation. I can get the last spark plug out using a short extension and the bendable knuckle extension from a very similar Stanley tool kit. I am not a mechanic, but have owned a few falcons.

Great video bro. I have to do this job on my FG soon. A little bit of silicone spray on your spark plug socket will help the spark plug release from the socket too. Obviously not dripping wet (spray in there and wipe it out ensuring the rubber grommet at the top of the socket is clean and dry), but we do that with the motorbike plugs, it is the same situation where they are an absolute sh*t to get to.

Haha I use the same 2 short extension technique for the back one, have found electrical tape around the joins works to keep things together, I also like to use some new 3/8 hose to stick the spark plugs in, just insert the plug into it, you can get them fairly seated with it and tighten from there, also doesn't hurt to use some anti sieze. Workshop manual states 14-20nm for the plugs 👍 something else to keep an eye on is the exhaust manifold bolts, they love backing out.

Very common problem with the BA. Don't buy the cheap green ones off eBay they stopped working immediately. i went to Repco and bought the right ones and problem solved. You didn't show us the fun part of getting the last screw out of the cover. I have a flattened waxed veggie box that I lay across the engine so I can lay on it to reach that last screw, it also saves the back.. You worked out the trick with number 6 plug way faster than I did. Well done. I can do it real quick now but the first time there were many harsh words spoken. I always put the oil filler cap straight back on to stop any bits falling in there. I also bought a long magnetic claw for picking up those bolts that do tend to get dropped . I see yours has much better average mileage than mine. If you clean out the throttle body your idle will improve a bit more. It's important to use the correct solvent though. It's amazing how much dirt gets into the TB. You did take us for a drive around Ipswich at night.

Its funny. Even ngk lists turns for spark plugs. Something like hand tight, then 1/2 turn for new plugs (to compress the washer). 1/4 turn for old plugs with washer already compressed. Also, turns and torque all depend on engine material, etc

Had similar problems on my AU tickford xr6, distributor seemed to do the trick, but got all leads and plugs done for peace of mind. Ran so well 2 years till i sold it, big regrets 1 year on though 😭

I have a 2014 XR6 (EcoLpi) with 76K, and get a few missfires. I installed new plugs and coils but no luck in my case. I will clean the throttle body next followed by checking intake manifold. I use Forscan app to read Total Missfire Recorded. Missfire only ever happens with cold engine, and only when in drive or reverse. I do not get any engine warning lights or error codes.

Good Vid , watched while doing my coils for the first time...Jumped ahead a few times then came back to watch vid to make sure I didn't miss anything.... Two things... One .. Why are you running red coolant when Ba Turbo's came out with Green? (Preference?) And Two thought I would mention as I did my coils I noticed noticed the first coil lead at the front had some wear from rubbing . So might be a good idea to inspect all wiring for wear.....
@MotoringBoxTV

It isn't so much the colour, it's the specification that matters. Nulon red meets Ford's coolant spec, as do a lot of green coolants. Some reds don't.

Hey love your vidio's mate. My ba turbo had the same issue with oil around coils. I purchased a gaket kit for the rocker cover. Each cylinder tube has a small rubber gasket that fails also causing missfire.
@MotoringBoxTV

Yup I will most likely be ordering a kit and checking the coil packs the next time I have the intake assembly off. Mine didn't seem to have leaked very much, but if there's any oil in there again I'll have to change the seals over.

Are you Ipswich based? Also- when you do the clutch, make sure to get a remote bleeder for the concentric slave cylinder (replace that too). Makes bleeding the CSC much easier (otherwise you frig arse around inside the bellhousing.

+1 Absolutely replace the CSC when doing the clutch, I've seen one fail because it wasn't replaced with the clutch. Given the cost of just doing it at the same time versus the cost of if it fails later, it's an absolutely must do

If your turbo barra is running high boost and has a miss up high toss the fancy plugs and put a set of copper cores in and the miss should be gone. Fixed mine anyway and yes the iridiums were gapped right down.

My sisters BA Turbo had an idle problem so I did genuine plugs and coil paks which made a bit more power and a slight improvement in the idle. The problem was the idle was still not smooth. So what I found out was the hydraulic oil had leaked out of the engine mounts. Once the engine mounts were replaced the engine idle was perfect. The engine mounts are hydraulic and the oil had leaked out so they did not work properly.
