BARRA upgrade | Ford FG Falcon XR6 turbo

Arguably the best of the Ford XR6 turbo models, the FG generation Falcon was sold from 2008 to 2014. The factory turbocharged Barra 4L six is good for around 360hp with bulk torque from just 1500rpm. Giulio’s XR6 is pretty typical of what you’ll find on Aussie roads. Like many quick Barra’s, the only internal engine modifications are valve springs and heads studs. A larger Garrett turbo and intercooler is in place along with an upgraded fuel system to run E85, which is good for just shy of 700 wheel horsepower. Driveline enhancements consist of a rebuilt ZF trans, tail-shaft and a TCE stall converter.

Thanks Fullboost for the video and all the people with positive comment. Regardless of some individuals opinions, racing for me isn't competitative and simply just trying to have fun. The car had some issues with shifting but also snapped a driveshaft trying to go quicker. The Adelaide seen is somewhat behind when it comes to racing but regardless I think been humble and doing it for fun makes it a better atmosphere then sitting down and trying to compare dicks on barra VS lsa engines

Giulio , that's your car ? Nice . Not all Holden owners or Ford owners are dickheads . I have a VE Redline and love V8s but I have always liked the Falcon turbo . If I could afford all the cars I like I would have more cars than Jay Leno . Good luck with your racing and remember to have fun .

That's one slick street car bro. Well done with the build. As long as you enjoy it, that's the only thing that matters. To go any faster reliably will cost big money from here I think. I broke my built trans 5 times last year, so I know what your going thro. The cost of reliably going from 10's to 9's can be killa. Doesn't matter what car, your looking at a big $$$ trans, tail shaft, diff, axles and fitting a cage and shit. I don't own a Falcon, but it's the same deal for everyone... ;) Nice build tho dude. And I'm a Holden guy normally, but they're not the only cool cars on Earth. I love the cars not the badges

Hey brother can I just ask a quick question seeing as though it's a relatively stock motor is there any particular reason you didn't go for the gtx35/82r coz I've got a fg f6 making slightly less power on a smaller turbo and tbh wouldn't want anymore lag then what I have now. Do you find lag an issue? But then again I guess the stall converter would Help a bunch. Either way love the car well done, it's nice to own one of these cars now they won't be produced anymore

Turbo cars are so easy to coax extra power out of. I got 50% more power at the wheels in my Nissan for less than $2000. This included dyno time. I fitted the intercooler and fuel pump myself as I am an aircraft mechanic by trade.

The 6l90e in the vf gts is a tough unit but I don't think they'd be able to last at 500rwkw for any substantial time if there doing 1/4 mile runs and enthusiastic driving, but then again I may be wrong the guys I know all have manuals so can't speak from experience. ASD so I'm assuming you have a gts commodore what power etc are you running if so?

Yeah its a good trans, much stronger than the ZF box found on the fords.. Mine is manual too mate, making 426rwkw for now. Got plenty mates with autos making 450-500rwkw and they drive em HARD, no issues yet.

Frank consensus is around the high 12second mark some will say 13, while the fg f6 the fpv version some have done as low as 12.6 stock.(these times are with auto transmissions) Don't look at these engines hp output (even though it's good) it's the way the torque comes on and keeps pulling there torque monsters these engines and stock don't exactly run very high Levels of boost. There also substantially quicker in auto as the zf gearbox is a gem and the turbo won't lose boost inbetween gear changes

IDK some company on FB is showing figures of 560rwkw (from memory) with a modified GT3540 factory B series turbo. They put a 63mm compressor wheel in them from memory

still 82mm exducer? the power they are getting on e85 with the gtx35s is pretty mental don't get me wrong, but some people just want that much more lol. even a gtx4088 would be able to do a decent amount more than the gtx35 so I agree its a pretty big turbo but a gtx42 on a well setup barra isn't _that_ laggy. I kinda like the feel of a big turbo lol.

22psi on a 3582r isn't the same air volume as 22psi on a 4202. Without a forged bottom end And significantly raised redline I personally think any bigger than a 35series doesn't have the leg room with useable rpm/power on a Barra redlining 6200-6500rpm (for a street car anyway) I personally run a gtx3584r and it shits over my mates 4202 on the street and strip. (Both make 500rwkw and both near identical set ups except turbo choice)

mate don't need that kit to run mid 10's.. there are plenty of LSA's running mid 10's on the stock camshaft and pump 98 fuel.. only mods are intake, exhaust, injectors, pulley and chiller. Which can all be done for WELL under $10k.

It just sounds like shit though. My friend had one and it near put me to sleep driving in it. Driving around town you are driving a shitty Falcon Auto that makes you want to slit your wrists. You know what I have a modded fg f6 that runs low 10s the shape dosent bother me as the fpvs look a lot better then the standard falcons but your right they bloody are boring when not on boost around town it Dosent really excite me at all until i can boost it up and give it a hit, tell you what though I've given a few super expensive cars a surprise though when they don't give it a second look then suddenly the turbo spools and there way behind haha. But yea agree the ls engines sound great my brothers vf maloo with cam heads full exhausts made 350rwkw and always sounds cool even if it isn't as fast.
