Oh my gosh.......I struggled with this on a different video....your crossing the string again was the thing that made it work, thank you!! This is so helpful and well explained.

Glad it helped!

That simple modification of twisting the rope at the crossing point in the beginning is such an obvious improvement in hindsight, but I've never thought of it or seen it anywhere else. Thank you a lot.

I learned this knot as the Carrier knot. The Barrel Sling is a modified overhand knot. Great demonstration video.

I have actually heard it called both, but you may be right.

I suppose it could be evidence that I am simple-minded, but I really enjoy watching you and First Class Amature demonstrate different knots. Thanks for the lesson and best regards.

I said hold on a sec, the others I watched didn't twist it there. Great demo!

Just drawing up plans for me and my boy to build an Avary station. We figure the native birds will love building a nest in something made of wood that resembles the trees they like. Impossible for cats to reach too. This knot will come in handy, thank you.

You can make it more comfortable to handle by adjusting the rope length by making it thicker at the handle point by using a sheepshank bend for example

I have always been amazed at what can be accomplished with a simple rope.

@@txtoolcrib Agreed! When I was maybe twelve, my mother’s best friend gifted me a book that had instructions with how to tie a few dozen knots. It was entertaining to learn and many of them stick with me. . . I’m sure I could probably use them more if I worked somewhere not in an office. lol

Add some wooden beads and you could sell them at a crafts fair. 👍

May find a slightly different use for this and many others brought in the future by bolting now , some times tomorrow is better than yesterday .
