That's such a great price! The original is soooo good, you're right its impossible to beat at that price! Gray Label Seagrass is fantastic and personally my preferred pour of the two, but they are truly so different its difficult to even compare. Is it better? For me definitely, a lot more depth and richness. Is it $160 better? Man that truly depends on your love of whiskey and whiskey budget lol For my hardcore whiskey friend hands down im recommending. For anyone else, no way lol

I really love this bottle, it’s such a different animal than the original Seagrass. My favorite part is the viscosity and the saltiness/briny finish. That salt on the back end speaks perfectly to the name Seagrass. The original Seagrass a tropical bomb in comparison Both very good, both very different imo

I was able to pre-order one of the grey label Seagrass for just under $200. Sounds like it will be well worth it. Hopefully it will come in soon now that the reviews are dropping fast and furious. I bought 4 of the regular Seagrass and I paid well under the $100 MSRP except for one. The one I paid more for was in WA state which has the worst liquor prices in the country. But there was a large family gathering and I wanted to share something special so I paid the going rate. The last bottle I bought locally was $70 before everyone named it rye of the year and it disappeared in the blink of an eye. That's something I like about Barrell products in general, they are not cheap but availability is usually good and they go for MSRP or less. Far better in my opinion than paying 3-4 times a low MSRP because it's the only bottle you are going to find.

I just recently opened up the regular Seagrass and do not like it yet. I get all apricot. It's like Crown Peach but with apricot instead. Hopefully it will develop a little or I can figure out how to enjoy it. But, I'd still probably pick up the Gray Label version if I see it. What you described sounded more appealing to me. I definitely want more strong rye flavors to balance out all the sweetness. I think Boss Hogg VIII and Four Gate Ruby Rye Springs nail the balance I like a lot more than the regular Seagrass I have.

Is there any rhyme or reason to barrell's releases, blends and prices? For the average bourbon drinker like myself, I don't purchase barrell not because of the price but I don't have the time to research every single batch to determine if it's worth my money. I know they make some good stuff but it's too much work for me spend the time researching if batch 30 is that much better than batch 29 and what a fair price is for it. Is there a cliff notes guide for purchasing?

I stay away from all Barrel products, I find it to be a low value to pay for sourced juice that has been up-charged just because you say your exceptional at blending or finishing.

So the finishing is the same but the underlying whiskey is different. I can’t recall age/blend of the original but I can’t image, whatever the original was, that a 16 yr Canadian version is worth $250+. I got my Original at $70 so that’s a $180 mark up? What is this, Whistle Pig 🤣 Sticking with this is a Barrel money grab post Seagrass reviews/reaction. Pass.

I actually had a rep tell Me of the plans for this a month after they released Seagrass and before the hype got built up, so it’s been in the works for a while (edit: a cash grab? For sure. A reaction to the market? That I’m not so sure, I think it’s been planned for a long time)
@gregs73753 жыл бұрын
@@the_snicklefritz I heard the same. I also heard Armida was slated for a grey/gold label too but that fell through. So yes, a reaction to the market, definitely agree with that. Now if it were a 16 yr Kentucky/Indiana Rye or even the same original blended whiskeys but 1-2 years older then I feel it’s fine. But it’s the switch to a 100% Canadian Rye that I have a hard time getting why that was the choice and for that, I do feel this is overpriced.
@the_snicklefritz3 жыл бұрын
@@gregs7375 Agreed. But a 16 year Kentucky/indiana rye blend? Man you are talking upwards of $400+ for a single bottle... I haven't seen an MGP rye over 9 years in forever.... so to source a 16 year MGP rye? Thatt sounds incredibly expensive! lol
@the_snicklefritz3 жыл бұрын
@@gregs7375 You are right though in that a higher aged blend of Kentucky/Indiana/Canadian ryes WOULD make a better blend than the new Seagrass.
