Christmas is so freaking annoying The ornaments and cards are so fake Candy canes all taste like 10 year old toothpaste And the gingerbread gives me a raging stomachache The carols are so stale and relentless They carry through the air like the smell of something bad But the one thing I look forward to This time of year is spending Christmas with my Dad Spending Christmas with my Dad. He comes in with his arms full of presents His smile is wide and his hair is full of snow He pulls out his guitar and lays down a classic bar Of an underrated hit from long ago And when he sings my heart wide open I’m happy but I guess a little sad Cause he doesn’t visit me cause I just watch him on TV And that’s how I spend Christmas with my dad Merry Christmas Daddy! That’s Christmas with my dad I “DVRed” his shows since I was 9 I memories each song in every line When mom is not home I turn them on and revel in the sound It’s the house would dad would have stayed around I ask him ‘bout the cities that he toured He’d show how me how to play a 7th cord It sucks to know your dad from specials on TV I wish he thought that I was special as his specials are to me! Christmas is so freaking depressing Commercialism, Suicide and Snow Mom goes on defense builds just kind of dense There they only family that I know But tomorrow when I turn on the TV I see the family that I could’ve have had It’s the one thing I look forward this time of year Spending Christmas with my dad Merry Christmas daddy May be one he would be on the side of the TV Will make fun of the carolers and BURN the Christmas tree And that’s the greatest present there could ever be Dad spending Christmas with me Spending with me Wouldn’t you be there daddy? Spending Christmas with MEEEEEEEEEEE!

Hi Emma, one of the writers here ... we're currently producing a demo of the song (and 9 other songs from this show) which will be out in a month or so. Probably the best way to get alerted as to when that's available is to follow my facebook music page (facebook.com/mikepettrymusic/) or @mikepettry on Twitter. The song will be free and downloadable. We'll probably make karaoke tracks and sheet music available soon after that!

EmmaCoulsonn hi Emma, thank you! Truth I've been pretty lazy about notating the music this show ... but I've been wanting to get this one down on paper. I'll try and make it available this weekend.

Well, she's almost 32 now, I'm pretty sure she kinda got over it by now - coming from a person who lost her dad few years ago, I think she can focus on these feelings while singing but not necessarily having a hard time singing it.
@abigailjeffery62143 жыл бұрын
Ok 2 things! @hooman I wouldn’t say it was worse, just different. My mum committed suicide when I was 9 and I’m left with so many unanswered questions but if she had choose to leave I know I’d always have that hope that one day she’d come back. I think the two are very different scenarios and shouldn’t be compared. 2) you don’t really just ‘get over’ losing someone, I lost my mum 20 years ago this year and I still have moments of intense grief and pain. For the most part, yes, I can get on with life and not have it affect me everyday but it’s still there and can still overwhelm me, particularly if I’m singing/listening to a certain song that’s relatable. The trick is to use that emotion and put it in to the song which I believe is what Barrett does extremely well!
