China has 5000 years of history and is among the world's oldest "continuous" civilization still alive today, whereas other ancient civilizations like Mesopotamia, Rome and Egypt have since succumbed to history. Great insight into China. I can relate so much to peoples opinions have changed about China. People said to me when I decide to move to China in 2000 why are you going there? At that time there was so many restrictions. I always remember we couldn’t get a hotel room. I went to a city I had never heard of Nantong in Jiangsu. I worked at the foreign language school teaching English. It was there where I met my Chinese wife. At that time I was the only foreigner. We had a traditional Chinese wedding over two days. I have so many incredible memories that about that time. One day I would love to write a book. Both my Children were born in China and they are bilingual. I have lived in Shanghai, Tianjin and Guangzhou and each of them have filled me with some many amazing memories. I have been lucky enough to travel all over China to many amazing places. I think the reasons why Western media like to discredit China: 1. China's development threatens the interests of Western countries 2. Different ideologies, governments and politicians need imaginary enemies 3. Showing China positively will lead to the inflow of talent capital into China
@Shenzhou.4 жыл бұрын
Agreed. However, it could also be because the _"Yellow Peril"_ mindset never really died out in the West. Since 19th century, Westerners are accustomed to the notion of Western civilization, Western culture dominating the globe, so the very idea of a non-Western power surpassing the West is simply too frightening to imagine. In other words, it's white supremacy complex that won't accept the rise of an Asian superpower.

My first trip to China was to Beijing back in 1997. Totally different experience from other times I went back over the years. In 1997 there were tons of bicycles on the roads in Beijing and very few cars. And I could only stay in specific hotels reserved for foreigners. There were plenty of old alleyways which were filled with all sorts of small shops which have been removed. And the shopping was fairly restricted as well. I remember seeing a humongous Popeye's Chicken at one end of Tiananmen Square. The largest Popeye's Chicken I have ever seen, several stories high. Again, nothing like today.

A good video from two young promising men. China is improving and progressing day by day like Usain Bolt. The whole society is actually quite open-minded, constantly changing. Barrett, I hope your subscribers reach 200K soon, you deserve it.

Barrett is so right about the big difference between the young and old, especially in China. That is China has been gone through the biggest change in Chinese history and fastest transformation no other country can match in the history of civilization. Change in ten years in China is equivalent of changes happened in a century in the West. That is the reason why the youngsters in China are so different than their parents and grand parents. They did not experience any of the hardship and political turmoil the older generation had experienced in China. The younger generation from China definitely are more modern and confidence. They are shocked to witness how bias and misinformed about China by the Western media when they are living or studying in the West. They could not believe how much negative publicities about China and nothing or very little about China's modernization and transformation in the right direction and raised standard of living in China. The West led by the US was hoping and always does that China's next generation would be influenced by the ideology and mentality of the West and hate their government so the West led by the US can take advantage of the situation and contain China. But the reality is more like the opposite as what they wished. In the past, about 70% of students from China study in the West, mostly in the US would stay on in the West for a better future and 30% go back to China after they are done with their studies. Now less than 20% would stay and more than 80% would go back to China for a better future. That is why, Trump and his administrations came up with new policies to prevent students from China to attend higher education in the US because the talented students from China will be no more use for the US because they will go back to China.
