I think maybe EV's are showing the weakness in the market teetering on the edge, the higher interest rates certainly won't be helping, couple that with the average customer being squeezed with cost of living rises and maybe thinking that prices of cars are too high? so why would they bother buying another when their current car is fine and paid off?

I came across a video from RSymons, a trader in EV's. He used stats from Auto Trader to show the trends in the market over the year. It showed there was a greater demand for used EVs but also a large number of cars coming onto the market, which of course affects the values. New technology tends to be expensive, so needs subsidies to get established eg. Solar panels and heat pumps. I've had both for 14 years. The solar panels have made been a great investment and the heat pump has saved a lot of money over an oil boiler. I wouldn't have considered either without subsidies. The government has stopped all subsidies for EVs and is destroying the car industry with the EV mandate. The new VED changes are crazy, you will pay the same for a Super Car as an EV. Why cant Politicians see that their policies are ridiculous and harmful. I understand that if you buy a new EV before April you won't pay the luxury car tax, so no doubt there will be a rush of sales and then a big drop.
@andrewdelamere56012 күн бұрын
My understanding regarding road tax and used EV vehicles over £40 000 when new. Yes zero rated until April 2025 then liable at £195 plus £400 premium for the next 5 years. At least that’s how it’s been explained to me.
@dennisbean55692 күн бұрын
There seems to be different opinions on the luxury car tax. I have just bought a 2 year old EV just before the VED changes were announced. I think the list price was just under £40,000 so I am hoping that either way I don't get stung.

Been to many dealers with my dad in past and it used to be a pleasure, now they don't seem to even care about selling cars, don't even put pictures of their cars on the website. The car industry is been damaged by EVs and salesman that are more bothered about their social media account than getting a sale or helping somebody (this doesn't apply to every sales person) I was speaking to a print technician the other day, he comes up and down the country repairing printers, his job sees him going from Leeds to Birmingham on a regular basis, his company have given him a plug in hybrid and he told me he's never plugged it in, says he can't be bothered, it would take too much time out of his day, imagine if that was EV, the lack of productivity that would bring to the country. EVs are damaging all industries, not just the car one, it's an idea dreamt up by people pushing pens around and in reality it just doesn't work for the majority of people.

@BarrieCrampton I think the way the industry is going many dealership owners won't be too sad if the dealership goes up in flames ( so long as no-one is hurt). I remember two years ago quoting a report from Germany estimating 2 million redundancies in Europe alone in the automotive industry due to net zero and the crazy EV push. We should have multiple technologies available ( electric , petrol ,diesel , hydrogen) so people can choose the right technology for their needs. That 2 million figure is starting to kick in now and may have been too conservative.
@rosen94252 күн бұрын
@@paulnewman9275 The fundamental problem is the difficulty in competing with diesel and petrol. There is no better energy density along with having a 120 or so year advantage over everything else, given the relative inexpensive price point it sells at (fuel taxes in some countries account for more than half the pump price)
