It was just like this when I was about to get a whooping (and I earned everyone I got). I appreciate what she did though! Those whoopings were what I needed and taught me to love and respect my mom! This shite brings back memories LOL I am 59 years old and I grew up on a farm with plenty of trees and a mom and dad from the old school, Louisiana. If I really messed up my dad would say go out and get me a switch (plenty of trees) which was jacked up because you knew you were going to get your ass beat but you had to go out and get the damn switch. I made the mistake one day and went out and got small switch (thinking it wouldn't hurt so much) my dad took that switch and whoop me back out too the tree to get a proper one and then whoop me again for getting the wrong switch and for whatever I did. Was it child abuse I don't know but I do know that I've never been to jail, I've always worked, I respect my elders and I try to treat people the way that I want to be treated.

Not to put a damper on being able to 'laugh at my pain', but my brother and I were abused like this as children, by our Dad...throughout my childhood, and some of my adulthood, this type of abuse was deemed normal in mostly BC and even necessary to raise obedient or good children to become responsible adults, but of course when I had children, hitting them or beating them made me and their father feel guilty...years later my father told me he believed it was the worst thing a parent could ever do to a child, and he only did it because it was done to him, he apologized wholeheartedly 😢...that made me understand why it didn't feel natural when I hit my kids...thanks Daddy ❤ People tend to 'whoop' children because it was done to them... specifically BP, it goes all the way back to being whipped as slaves 😔

Of course you were a kid/teenager being disobedient and pushing limits, what else is new...?! That's part of growing up and it's the parents' responsibility to deal with it in an appropriate manner. Go ask those who did not turn out well, I guarantee you that they did not lack beatings. The abuse mothers like yours inflict on their children is far more likely to do some serious damage than raise them to become "disciplined". I don't doubt that your mother loves you, but don't give me this bullshit "she beat me cause she loved me" bullshit. Yeah right, cause nothing says "I love you" more than a nice ass-whooping. That's what perps say to their victims. And the fact that you might have been physically stronger doesn't change that. I have a friend who even after getting older and stronger did not dare to stand up to his father who instilled fear in him through years of beatings and intimidation. It comes with the territory of parent-child relationship. Finally, I'm glad you are ok but please don't trivialize abuse because people like you make it "acceptable" which it's not!
