The problem is that not all people deserve that courtesy. The problem arises when you treat the people blowing others up the same way you treat the people being blown up, all because you're trying to be courteous. Sometimes it's a good thing to alienate half your audience if that half is the problem. Be nice to people and go the extra mile to make things better, but also do not give even an inch to those that don't want to let others live in peace. Jesus said that when you are slapped, you should turn the other cheek. But He never said what you should do when the other cheek gets slapped as well.
