It would be nice to see that some people can learn from bad experiences OR that you don't have to experience something tragic to be of value or have important things to say. The fact that Natalie got her own show could be a good opportunity to showcase to Sally how she isn't the best thing in the universe. I feel like season 1 and 2 she was extremely confident but they didn't make it seem unjustified cuz every other character in the acting class wasn't on an equal level to her - I wish someone could knock that ego down a few pegs rather than blur the lines between validating her talent/corrupt Hollywood = her big ego/selfishness.

Sally is so well written and Sarah Goldberg is a great actress, this is probably how a lot of celebrities act behind the scenes when they mess up big time. The doubling down and desperation to feel justified, sweating your brains out that your career might be over just feel like how a lot of self interested people would act. For a second she even tries to take it all back when her agent is leaving but realizes its too late, she's made her bed. Bill Hader said the writer's room scene was drawn from experiences his friends have had while on writing tv shows so i don't doubt this was based on experiences many actors and writers face when they've been "cancelled".
@samueltan26622 жыл бұрын
It seems that something the show always thematically address is how success based on a lie will crumble. Sally, like Barry, is in denial - trying to bring her truth to the industry as a woman who's experienced abuse based on a lie. That she never was courageous enough to confront her abuser, let alone, defend herself. Unlike how she portrayed herself in that play about Sam. So part of all this resentment and anger Sally now has comes not only from her being selfish, toxic, and screwed over, but from how she's most likely angry at herself. She just can't accept it - that she's maintaining a facade of the woman she really is not. Sally tries to be the strong, empowered, and an empowering woman she's painted herself as with Joplin, but she can't because it's a lie.
@shindean2 жыл бұрын
It should be noted that she's defining a lie by her own standards. It's a lie if someone else takes her idea, but it's not a lie when she does it even though she has never been a mother. Notice how it was mentioned that eating a dessert in the first ten minutes is what the algorithm favors, as well as mentioning Central Park. Natalie made her show about a mother and daughter that ran a bakery in Central Park, which serves the algorithm. She didn't steal anything from Sally. And the name of the show is called Just Desserts. Natalie gets her reward while Sally gets her punishment for being horrible.

She wouldn't have known of the elements favored by the algorithm if she hadn't been in a meeting over a story Sally actually wrote. She stole elements she then knew would resonate.
@sofiacarrasquillo7962 жыл бұрын
@@vaughnkapp911 Honestly I feel differently since we really don't know much about Natalies character. Sally pulled from her experience yes but it wasn't at all singular. Mother/daughter coming-of-age/teachings story is a pretty common format, they show us another show like it before Sally's even airs. Even sally's writer corrects her about a characters well worded argument and she doesn't understand that she is wrong - someone else did that work not Sally but she takes the credit telling the young actor "writing is easy" (season 3 ep2 ?). Plus Sally has no right speaking to female empowerment when she tells Natalie to not talk and make her a snack during a meeting - sorry sally but you have revoked that feminine urge to "empower others" when you are so rude to someone in a way only a privileged person can be 😂 so even if Natalie did 'steal' elements I feel like it doesn't compare to the scale of mistreatment Natalie endured. Sally was willing to step on her to succeed why should she do differently when you claim to be educating her. Natalie doesn't even get the chance to explain how her show is different, she even says "it's an important story to me" and gets cut off. I just hope Natalie learns to be better and we get some kind of arc for someone that is redeemable. That was long... sorry bruh but thanks if you read it! Scenes like this just further demonstrate how complex and beautifully written Sally is, and ofc how amazing Sarah Goldberg is with the role. Before Season 3, we knew she was self-absorbed and toxic, almost as bad as Fuches, Barry, and Gene. But it was really balanced out with the sympathy you feel for her abusive past and the fact that she's just a Hollywood dreamer. Now, despite being more selfish and toxic than ever, you still remain sympathetic toward her. After all of her struggle and pain, both from trying to make it in the industry holding onto her 'truth' and her abusive past, she finally has a taste of success. Only to be screwed over once again. Even her new boyfriend, the seemingly harmless and sweet Barry, starts being abusive too. But with the sympathy, you still can't help but see what she's becoming. Sally has a manipulative victim mindset. She feels more entitled than she's ever been, even emulating the anger, and darkness of the relationships she was in. She's now as entitled as Fuches. Self-absorbed as Gene. And abusive as Barry.

By rule of numbers there has to be some team sally, especially when she broke up with Barry. But you have to agree she is a narcissist since the start and her show was a vanity project at best. Remember when she would get upset when Barry landed roles when she should of been happy for him? Her attacking someone that assisted her just because the new show has a mother daughter dynamic is straight unjustified hate and spite. The sleight that she throws around only goes unnoticed by audience members that share her flaws, and that’s the genius of the writing. You support her until you realize what she really is but it hits really close to home to the point where you either have to ignore some things or seriously evaluate yourself.

@shindean2 жыл бұрын
The show has basically made the point that narcists and self centered tendencies is foundation of all these characters. Almost everyone is showing their own personal bias, Albert spared Barry because of his daughter, Fuches was given two chances to live a peaceful life but can't because of his vendetta, and even Jim Moss used his power and intimidation tactics to use entrapment in capturing Barry. None of this is selfless.

Honestly, Sally knew it was coming, considering how she treated Natalie and try to brag about herself. Even if she claims Natalie stole the show, not the most appropriate way to handle a situation. However, good for Sally dropping her agent. Her agent's commission and relationship with BanShe is more important to her than her client or her show, so she had it coming as well. Time for a new chapter for Sally, I guess.

Uhhh dude; relationship with studios is what gets your show made. Like you do have to do jobs in the industry you’re not gonna want to do. If you’re gonna be an actor you’re gonna be in a dud or two. If you’re a writer for a show you’ll have to write for a crap show that isn’t gonna take off. I know sally had her heart set on making this show of hers, but she absolutely shot herself in the foot here

sadly though, you can really relate to why she's so mean spirited and self centered. married to an abusive man way too young who she had to run away from while he was asleep, and goes out to hollywood to pursue her dream of being an actor, and consistently gets to the cusp of something good, only to have it ripped away from her in the last minute. her rage at natalie was totally misguided, but at the same time, it's understandable why she'd be so mad, it was really at ban-she for discarding her the way they did and giving her such a shitty consolation prize only for the person who she brought there to be given everything she was given. as someone who works in the film industry, and constantly has to deal with people less talented than me getting much better opportunities and having so many taken away from me right when they were starting to get good, I can relate, eventually you just reach a breaking point.

You know, when she had that monologue in season 2 about the types of roles women get and how unfair it was that Barry got an audition and what have you, I felt fucking crazy cause the whole time I thought Sally was coming off as really egotistical and insensitive, but everyone seemed to agree she had a point at least. But I chalked it up to her insulting action roles for women leading to me getting sensitive. Now with the route they are taking with her character this season, I feel almost vindicated and relieved that I wasn't just completely misreading what the writers either intentionally or unintentionally laid out there.

Sally is like Barry. Self diluted. Natalie didn't steal her show and her doing to Natalie exactly what Barry did to her, behavior she dumped him for, then justifying it was unbelievable 😒 Then she burns bridges by posting a non apology and calling her agent selfish and a liar when her agent and the banshee streaming service is what launched her show in the first place, Just.....wow. Like Barry, her utter lack of self reflection and total self interest has left her alone in the dark. Great writing ✍ 👍
@vaughnkapp9112 жыл бұрын
She's self diluted, but not so much here. Natalie took Sallys single mother template then just injected elements favored by the algorithm she would never have known about with out Sally and her story gaining the meeting at Banshe. That's further referenced in the math equation comment. So Sally effectively sees Natalie take her idea then apply elements that she heard would sell only thanks to Sally. That is even bigger fraud than Sally, who may be a liar but at least she makes up her own lies
@supernaturalawesome12 жыл бұрын
@@vaughnkapp911 That's television writing though isn't it. You create a story and characters that people will watch. Natalie never stated that just deserts was "her story". But Sally launched into an emotional screaming rant at how Natalie stole her show and has never struggled or been abused so she has nothing to say. She didn't sabotage Sally's show or get it cancelled. She just took the base idea of a single mom and daughter and added elements the algorithm favors in an attempt to make it a hit. That doesn't make her a thief or fraud. It just makes her a dreamer in Hollywood willing to do anything to succeed. Like Sally. Sally has no right to call her a c**t or scream at her. She was clearly just angry that a "nothing" like Natalie may succeed where she failed. In the first episode Sally said she couldn't succeed unless she uplifts other women. Then puts Natalie down when she sees her on top. They're both disingenuous but Sally is toxic.
@vaughnkapp9112 жыл бұрын
Natalie says it's a very important story to her. Which is bull. She's an opportunistic who chose to go the route of lowest common denominator appeals. It essentially gutted Sally's artistic endeavor born of her at least perceived suffering. Regardless she has been through real world sht in the midst of Barry. Natalie has no substance to ground, only the business sense to further exploit audiences that are given to tricks. Real art comes from the suffering that inspires mania. Not following the book on placating masses so they can be drained cattle. She's a fraud. But to your point perhaps that suits her to that industry, which is given to those methods
@vaughnkapp9112 жыл бұрын
Sally's outburst is the volcano erupting under pressure of all that is fake too. Natalie is lucky that's all she got. If you don't believe that, you don't understand Hollywood. Shes playing the cutthroats game in the land of evil
