@@christwarrior8501 Barry Sanders was unequivocally the best. Walter Payton was great, but Sanders was objectively better in essentially every way. He simply didn't play as long. Sanders wasn't a power back, but people consistently had hands on him and couldn't bring him down.

@@usnairframer Walter Payton did more with less in a tougher game. Payton had to run for his life and would run through opponents effortlessly. The only traits Sanders has better than Payton are elusiveness and speed, every thing else goes to Payton. Walter Payton is the toughest and greatest running back to step on the field. There's no one who compares to Payton, no one who rivals the heart he had. Defenders would try everything they could to stop Payton but couldn't.

That’s often the narrative that Barry “carried” the Lions. But during his 9 year career, Detroit made the playoffs 5 of those years. Detroit had a solid to good defense led by Chris Spielman and they also had two pro bowl caliber receivers in Herman Moore and Brett Perriman. Barry was obviously the most valuable player on the entire team, but there was at least enough talent to where Barry wasn’t essentially doing it ALL by himself.

I think this video is mis-titled. I’d say the Lions defense carried them. He may had a great day, an exceptional day… but the defense saved 11 points in the early goings when it should have been 14-0 and instead it was 3-0 at halftime. But Barry Sanders was great. Unfortunately wasted in Detroit. But he’s a class guy and never’d say that.

That’s not true. At all. They had Herman Moore a fantastic WR his entire career almost and paired him with Brett Perriman and guys like Rodney Holman at TE. And contrary to popular belief, his oline was a lot better than people remember, anchored by multiple time Pro Bowlers Lomas Brown and Kevin Glover. He was great. As a runner. Average receiver, below average blocker and far too often went off script on runs which is how he ended up with -1 yards in a completely winnable playoff game later this year in Green Bay.
@SPTO
@SPTO 7 ай бұрын
@@manuginobilisbaldspot424 You're right there but just about every year of his career the Lions were saddled with QBs who weren't any great shakes and while those receivers were great in their time they've become stat compilers more than "great" players as time passes by. You are absolutely correct about the O-line. It was a lot better than most people remember certainly way better than the line Payton had to play in front of for years. The off script nature of Sanders is why I put him behind Payton and E. Smith as well.

I think the Lions' history goes to show that football is an extremely hard game to BS your way through. Here we see not just a superstar, but a super DUPERstar at his best, and it's good enough to win here, but even with his tremendous talent he has only a couple of playoff appearances to show for it. This year the Lions have serious hope, not because of one super duperstar, but because of an honest-to-God team effort not relying on one or two people to carry the load. It's harder to do, but it's worth it. That being said, man, Barry might be the most fun-to-watch player in NFL history.
