With her just sitting there listening to music all still af. Reminds me of the old Video games where your target to kill is just in a room, not really doing much because of the lack of A.I technology back then 😂😂

@@saturatedcranium “What’s the most you’ve ever lost listening to Tom Tom Club?” Haha… In all seriousness, while I’m not OP I can see what they are referencing. First of all, there is a super minimal backing score that is arguably just a manifestation of Barry’s internal demons and conflict… you hear the faint sounds of Tom Tom Club, but it is diegetic and coming from Esther’s earbuds. NCfOM also mostly uses diegetic sound, as it creates an air of silent tension and when something breaks that silence-be it Anton Chigurh destroying the motel room lock with a bolt pistol or Barry’s car suddenly being hit by a hail of gunfire-you are locked in on the character’s perspective, and their surprise is also your own… they are hit with adrenaline just as the viewer is. Secondly, Anton Chigurh is death personified: cold, merciless, and unconcerned with anything beyond the inevitability of fate. Barry is draped in a black hoodie and also loosely resembles the Grim Reaper, the personification of death. This scene reveals the difference between the two characters, however: Barry’s psyche is waging an inner battle between accepting that he truly is “the most evil guy I know” as NoHo Hank would say, haha, and believing that he is still somehow redeemable-even if his redemption is fictional as it comes through acting, an activity which inherently revolves around suppressing one’s true personality and inhabiting a character. Either way, they are both cold-blooded killers-death incarnate-but only Anton has accepted it. Thirdly, the two-shot of Barry with a gun in the background as Death while Esther blankly stares forward-none the wiser-is also very similar to something out of NCfOM, which uses two-shots frequently as Anton is about to kill someone who is powerless to stop it. The idea that an unknowable and uncontrollable fate dictates our lives and eventual demise, with death lurking unseen, is straight out of NCfOM. Like the shopkeeper in that movie, Esther will never understand how close she was to meeting her demise. Even Barry almost met his demise simply because he opened the wrong door. Fourthly, NCfOM has two basic types of shots and lighting: wide, expansive shots of bright, open landscapes, and tight, claustrophobic shots of figures in darkness, representing life and death, good and evil, freedom and fate, and the universal and the individual. In this show, Barry standing on the stage underneath the spotlight and inhabiting a character that is not himself ironically represents freedom, akin to those standing in the wide open expanses of Texas in NCfOM. Like the movie, however, these silent, indoor claustrophobic shots reveal Barry to be divorced from free will and trapped by external circumstances beyond his control. Lastly, there is the car crash scene (as you alluded to), in which the silence and seeming safety is suddenly shattered (see also the first point about the sound). So yeah, I can see where @RyderDavis is coming from!

this symbolizes that buddhism makes you weak. barry walks in ready to do his job, morals aside, and the power of the statues and the religious symbols turn him into a pitiful mush. this is exactly what religion does to people. it makes them get on their knees, sit under a tree, pray, send their thoughts and prayers.
