Weak? Good songs, great sound, beatifully played. Even these few pop songs are really nice, great live versions. Anyone can criticize but man, weak?! I would say that the music created today is quite strange and rather emotionless, but that's just my personal feeling.

I am a Prog fan of 51 years listening. When Season's End was released, I thought it was quite a great move for Marillion. In 1992 I saw Marillion twice in Spring and October. The live Splintering Heart as concert opener was powerful! As for the album, Holidays in Eden, it was one of my top favorite albums of 1992. I say "Prog enough" for this album. It is a solid Marillion album and ranks high for me.

I was going to comment myself, so tired of people hating on this song…compared to other “love songs” out there, it’s unique and wonderful musically and lyrically. “The days before you came were really all the same, a greyness I used to call freedom”…love it.

Why it wasn't a big hit is a mystery, as a pop song I think it's a better composition than How We Live's old song "Dry Land" which at the time was the Marillion single I saw them perform on a German TV show and sadly not "No One Can". There was also a European music (awards?) show where they played several songs, I believe playback. As for live footage, I wish they'd release the (I think Dutch) gig that Super Channel showed around that time, brilliant it is. For the concert stuff in this new release alone, I just might buy this.

I've been a fan (California) since 86. Saw this tour in 92. Sadly, they don't play in L.A. too often anymore. I liked this album enough when it came out, but I haven't listened to it too much lately. If the mix does for these songs what the 2007 remixes did for Genesis, I will definitely be purchasing this.

I love this album and Season’s End. I think for hardcore prog fans they sound “poppy”, but honestly these albums didn’t do so well because they are of a better caliber. I also think there was a struggle because Fish was so identified with the band that it was hard to accept H at first…I even took a break from Marillion at the time. However, when I rediscovered them a few years later, I was in love with the band anew. I wish they would stop remixing what was brilliant the first time. As all bands do, they grew and matured with every album. “Fixing” the old stuff is just wrong, IMHO. The albums build on each other and hold a charm that connects me emotionally with the times decades ago. The new versions jar me out of my pleasant memories.

Having been a fan of the band since just after the release of Misplaced Childhood, I remember being quite disappointed by Holidays in Eden's pop orientation. (Especially vexing since I'd made a long trip to a not-so-nearby record store to procure it!) But I know what you mean about having a production that's true to the performance. I'd already gotten a CD/EP containing a live version of Splintering Heart, so I knew it was actually a blisteringly awesome song and full of grit when performed in front of fans, but seemed so watered down by the time it got onto the album!

Did I miss it or did you skip over Dry Land? Although that's a cover of Hogarth's earlier band, I love it. Unboxing doesn't have to mean you showing every page ;) Leave some surprises open for the buyer ;) Likewise, I find reading all the track titles out loud a bit unnecessary, since the details are all over the web anyway. I don't understand why the proper version of "I Will Walk On Water" isn't there at all, or why the non-album tracks (two of which were even part of the album in the US) didn't get remixed at well... In case you're not aware of it yet, I can recommend the 2011 live recording of the album. They mess up "No One Can" but otherwise that's long since been my favourite version of the album. I also like the slight tracklist change and think they should've done that with this remix too. Do I plan to buy this? Already preordered :D

Much like Abbey Road for the Beatles, the closing songs of this album are classic Marillion. I liked the album on release and never understood why it was so divisive at the time, although, admittedly, it’s a million miles away from Fugazi.

I think when you make an album they way it is is how it’s intended. With the exception of the brave remaster which was too hot, and what they did with Radiation, I don’t feel any of these needed a new mix. I’m extremely annoyed the songs that are missing from the two cd version and they have abandoned the original mix. Why can’t these be complete?

That's a rather attractive box set. I don't think I'd ever seen one quite like it. Very tempting considering I've been wanting to explore the Hogarth side of Marillion. I'm certain that would be a good way to begin. I did however manage to discover a rare copy called " B'sides Themselves. " Released in '88, containing what would seem to be some of the last recordings of Fish with the band.

I became a Marillion fan during the Fish years. Just my opinion, but I'd start with "Season's End" and go forward from there. @@foxtrotnow Appreciate the insight on Hogarth. I'm sure he's worth looking into. And as a long time Genesis fan, I find it very interesting that Marillion had 2 different front men to carry them through their history the same way Genesis did and yet Marillion was heavily influenced by them. There are times when Fish's vocals were very Gabriel like, especially on Script for a Jesters Tear. That would be the album that initially lured my attention to this band.

No one can is bland and uninspiring, the title track is at least mediocre. But apart from this, HiE is a pretty good album. Splintering Heart is one of my Marillion's favourite (and it is also a perfect opener for a live show), The Party (especially the instrumental bridge towards the end of the song) is phenomenal. Waiting to happen is easily among their best ballads. The end suite is a fine enclosure (especially The Rake's Progress).

I might get the vinyl version (I got the Fugazi vinyl box set which is fine, although lacking of the b sides). To this day I dislike Hogarth's voice, lol. This album cemented the fears I had when I listened to Seasons End, an imminent pop direction. Dry Land is a great pop song. No one can as well. I'm not a pop hater, on the contrary, but I don't expect prog bands to do that, some do it fine, like Camel, some break our hearts horribly like Genesis. To be honest, they did a decent job here with some really top notch pop songs. Yet, nothing to go crazy about after the great run with Fish. Brave is a fantastic album despite the awful vocals. I wish the box set was cheaper.

I finally understood why Hogarth's singing turns me off: no matter the backing track, slow, fast, happy, sad, his emotional delivery is always the same. Makes it all flat and predictablel, of course.

I never got into the band to be fair.I just couldnt expect their sound to make a good live band. Too produced and clinical to make it a live experience which arguably is what its all about at the end of the day?Yes they became very much the favour in the 80,s and I tried but meh....And I just dont get these box sets.I dont even look at photos of my own past life nevermind some random bands. Its all stinks of a quick buck from a band that has ran out of ideas.Motorhead would never have considered the nonsense I hope.

I've got lots of live albums by the band and they're all fabulous. Both Fish and Hogarth really give it their all when faced with an actual audience. "The Invisible Man", the encore at the 2011 show where they played the entirety of Holidays in Eden is a good example - far superior to the album version.
