Wonderful reaction to a true masterpiece of feelings! Now you're gonna have to treat yourself with Season's End.

I've always felt like "The Rake's Progress" had one of the most modern/adult set of lyrics in any "prog" song. This has always been one of Hogarth-era Marillion's strengths.

Oh man, This town-The Rake's progress-100 nights is my favorite song by Marillion (I count them as one). This album has a lot of... say, commercial-appealing songs, but still, one of the great Marillion albums.

I don’t know if you have listened to Marillion live the Albert Hall yet but there is a magical track called Go which is just an absolute crowd pleaser. The reaction clearly unprepared for the band has to be seen to be believed

You have now listened mostly to the music but a second time around pay some attention the lyrics especially on the closing This Town trilogy of songs. Those are a superb takedown / deconstruction of yuppiedom / London Financial District life. I love the fact that Hogarth takes his time to stab “the guy” right where it hurts in the final moment of the song … “She spends your money on ME”.

Hej Jim! I am a life long Marillion fan and I love how you reconnect with Marillion. And how much you seem to appreciate them. Makes me wonder if you ever have come across the work of the wonderful Mr Robin Armstrong and his Cosmograf? It should be right up your alley. The latest epic was released just now in September but every album is a treat. I would love for you to react to his song (on the latest album) called Heroic Material. Best wishes!

There's a lovely little guitar part around 3:40 that reminded me of some of the guitar sounds Steve Howe was getting in "Turn of the Century" and "Wondrous Stories" on the Yes album "Going For the One". Very nice. Thanks, Jim. After seeing a few people vote for this on your "best reactions picks" video you put out today I decided to see what the fuss was all about. Great. One MORE rabbit hole to go down! and this one looks like a deep one. ))

I agree it is a fantastic sounding album. To me it is kind of Hogarth finding his voice in the band. There are some themes that carry over from this album to Brave but with that album they start their method of creating albums by recording everything that happens in the studio. So I guess, it is kind of the end and start of eras simultaneously.

Great to see you enjoying a great album, Jim!! after the disappointment of Yes Union. Its smiles all round!! I have to say I am a huge fan of Yes & enjoy Marillion music onwards and upwards. Thank you so much for your enthusiasm 😀another great album from Ex Marillion Vocalist Fish called Weltschmerz is an absolute masterpiece which I am sure you will enjoy in the not-too-distant future👍

The remix has done this album a works of good, opening up the sound and putting the vocals slightly higher in the mix As others have said, the next two albums Brave, and Afraid Of Sunlight are stunners, both benefiting from the remixes as well. Best put some rubber bands around your socks to stop them being blown off! Incidentally I believe supply of the vinyl box sets of those are running low di get them whilst you can Finally and oddly, when you come to Brave, listen to it in CD - it’s an album that demands to be listened through without a break. Play loud and in the dark, as the band suggested.

I think this suite is one of the best things Marillion have done. It was my theme song back when I would look in the mirror and congratulate myself that being aloof, edgy and cynical suited me very well. I was deluded.

Anyone describing this as one of Marillions 'lesser albums' is either very demanding, or doesn't understand how hard it is to have songs that can sound commercial, but with such artistic credibility.

This remix adds SO much life to the album, it completely obliterated the original - which is often not the case with so-called “deluxe” editions. There’s so much more punch and clarity and nuance when before it was very much muddier and lacking in dynamics.

You mentioned many bands like Tears for Fears, Simple Minds (both are still recording by the way SM has a new album out now). A couple you never mentioned was Mike and the mechanics and Genesis, both of of which were label mates of Marillion and as such there was an urgency to try and pigeonhole the band in this area. The next album which followed was Brave, it was a deliberate effort to move away from that label and has earned the band plaudits for it. Unfortunately it wasn't well received and the slippery slope with EMI began..

I used to LOVE Simple Minds back in the 80s and also Tears For Fears…. Talk Talk were the other influence I could hear. I don’t know late Genesis or and the Mechanics very well….

I loved Brave but I didn't realise that it polarised the fan base almost as much if not more than Holidays. Shame really but then as they have said (and say on this BluRay) that if they'd stayed with EMI they wouldn't have been the same band that they are today and would probably have split for good.

@@JimNewstead I loved Talk Talk also, sadly Mark Hollis passed away and the band stopped some time before he died. Spirt of Eden and Laughing stock are two sonically beautiful albums
