Very useful video Barry, a big thankyou. I still struggle to get the right technique as far as the finger over with the thumb underneath goes, but essentially it's about getting a firm and the maximum amount of tip onto the cueball. Raising the butt slightly I feel would be suffice and hitting the cue ball firmly and with accuracy.

Once again Barry, thank you so much for this video. I appreciate it can be frustrating repeating the same things over and over. If it's any consolation, from a students point of view, having a little re-cap isn't a bad thing. I know only full well there's so much to think about in our game, you tend to forget little things like raising the butt slightly. I for one am extremely grateful for these videos. I cannot fathom for one minute why 8 people have disliked it, my only guess is that they aren't snooker fans, that or they struggle and expect a magical cure from someone such as yourself. One request from myself Barry, if you get a chance would you maybe supply us with say, your top 5 break-building practice routines if you can? I feel this is my biggest downfall at the moment so anything to help would be very much appreciated. My biggest break in a match is 61 and 117 in practice (line up). Thanks again Barry. 👍
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach7 жыл бұрын
billyrm. I will try to do as you ask, in the mean time my favourite is just using the black and pink. Pot the black into a corner pocket and then the pink into a middle pocket. Use the top cushion as much as possible and set yourself a target, say 5 blacks and 5 pinks. When you can do that increase the target. I guarantee if you can master this your break building will improve.

Another good instructional video here. Already up to snuff on everything shared here. I do have to say that for a player like myself it is very doubtful that I have a comfortable amount of room to stroke this type of shot under these playing conditions. That table is too large for that room. Not by much mind you, but another 12 to 24 inches of space would be ideal.

Barry, Can you do a video on picking a cue to buy. I have only recently got into snooker and really have no idea what is good and what is not. Love the videos
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach6 жыл бұрын
Oisin. Choosing a cue is a personal thing and so much depends upon your budget. You should choose between an Ash or maple shaft with an ebony butt. You will need to choose between a one piece cue or a jointed one, may I suggest that if it is a jointed cue select the 3/4 joint rather than a joint in the middle of the cue. A machined spliced cue is normally cheaper that a hand spliced cue. The standard length is 58 inches and this suits most players. The weight should be between 17oz and 18oz, again this suits most players. Some cheaper cues have varnish on the shaft, personally I hate the stuff on a cue and good manufactures tend to use an oil rather than varnish although some players like it on the butt of the cue. Please have a look at my videos where I visited a site where cues are made and talk about the qualities of a good cue.

Hi Barry! I have one question about the close bridge over the cushion with the thumb creating the path for the cue.. as the cue has conical shape, when I pull the cue back, the cue gets too loose because the cue is now thiner than the path. It sometimes causes a complete miss. Can't wait for your answers Barry. Merry Christmas!
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach6 жыл бұрын
Alotofmoney. The thumb and forefinger or thumb and forefinger knuckle must create a "V" for the cue to ride in, if this is done correctly the conical shape of the cue has no bearing on the direction it takes. On the closed bridge the forefinger is used to keep the cue in a stable position without tension, when there is no tension you will soon find that practise will eliminate all your doubts on this type of bridge regardless of the conical shape of the cue.

Barry. I usually hit the cushion first simultaneously with white, I never get position but pot goes close or in.But never put side always top middle of White.. Thoughts?
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach7 жыл бұрын
Mark. Seems to me that whilst you are raising the butt of the cue enough you are not raising the 'V' of the bridge hand quite enough. This is having the effect of catching the cushion before the cue ball. Raise the 'V' a little but be very careful, too much can also have adverse effects.
@syedsahil79366 жыл бұрын
And also I do miscue occasionally on cushion shots as I try to keep the cue parallel to cushion height
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach6 жыл бұрын
Snooker. If you try to keep the cue parallel on these shots it is likely that you will miscue, you have to raise the butt of the cue a little. Make sure you have a well chalked tip, raise the cue butt a little (not too much) and try to play within you limitations, these are difficult shots for any player including professionals. This advice also extends to your other question below.
@syedsahil79366 жыл бұрын
@@BarryStarkSnookerCoach well but if I raise the butt and if I didn't hit the mid of the cue ball I mean slightly here n there,, there are chances the cue ball may swerve left or right..

Hello Barry! I can't keep my head still during a shot, do you have any practice tips for that?
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach7 жыл бұрын
bruce. There could be so many reasons for this and again I urge the use of video to try to ascertain the cause. It could be lack of flexibility in the cervical area, it could be trying to see the result of the shot too early or indeed several other things. Try playing a few simple short range straight shots but before you play the shot close your eyes. See or rather feel the difference between your technique with your eyes open and then closed. Isolating one of the senses can indicate where the problem area lies.Good luck.

Hi Barry, Is there a certain stance when playing a shot with the rest?
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach7 жыл бұрын
Matthew. Not really, only guide lines. Place the cue on line and build your stance around that. You need to be comfortable and stable so a degree of width between the feet is important. Most right handed players will have their right foot in advance of the left so that the weight of the body is marginally going forward.

How do perfect long shot with this problem
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach5 жыл бұрын
Mahr. Playing off the cushion is difficult from short range and demands very accurate cueing. To do this over long range is very difficult indeed and accepting the limitations that the cue ball in this position will bring is probably the best option.
@daniellim81197 жыл бұрын
Barry, I seen Ronnie hand always remain on the same part even with these shots. Why is that so?

@abhisheksrivastava51545 жыл бұрын
Sir,my long shot potting is weak, please give me some idea to improve it.
@BarryStarkSnookerCoach5 жыл бұрын
Abhishek. A weakness in long potting is often associated with too many major muscles of the arm being involved with the cue delivery. Have a look at my video that shows Kyren practising, I believe it is video No.36. You will notice that he uses a lot of wrist, unfurling the fingers to allow this to happen. I am not suggesting that you copy Kyren totally but the grip plays a substaial role in reducing the amount of work these major muscles do and can allow the wrist to play a more constructive role.
