Well, you could fairly say Pete is a retired Royal Mail worker who uses a cane due to a bung knee and Bas was a music teacher who taught piano and trumpet, you could also say Pete was a toecutter with the Richardson Mob in London and Bas a was an illegal bare-knuckle boxer...

I believe Pete is 74 (the short one) and Bas is 76. They started in 2017, inspired by their grand kids, however they do have a team that helps write especially when it comes to the modern uk slang. They have at least 20 hits with millions of views. A few of my favs are Browns, Plugged In and Golf. Also, there is speculation about their sorted past with regards to the subject of much of their lyrics :)

If Pete & Bas (pronounced “Baz”) have blown your mind, prepare for the next levels…. Start with “Golf”, where you’ll meet Norman Pain. Then do Windowframe Cypher 1 & 2 to meet the entire squad, including Patrick Karneigh Jr, aka PKJ. Then, and only then, will you be ready for the absolute insanity that is The Northern Boys. All these related artists are part of “Sinhdu World”, and that includes Pete & Bas’ grandsons, who produce as 91 Shots and Handsome Dexter but perform as “Nine and Dex”

Welcome to the world of P&B. These astute OG's have been blowing up across the UK and Europe, which they are currently on tour. I believe the story is Pete, the one with the cane used to always pick up his granddaughter, and she would keep changing the radio over to the music she liked. Pete started to listen to it more and got his friend Bas short for Basil (pronounced Baz). They have got grandsons who produce and help with the up to date slang words with the experience of their days way back in the 60's London. Their grandsons producers go by the name of Shots 9 1 & Handsome Dex, which also rap and go by the name Nine & Dex. I'm sure some will say it's wrong, but this is what I have over the years I have been listening to.

Their background is mostly a mystery and I like that. Lots of rumours and hearsay. I like to think they just heard todays music and thought “listen to this shit, we could do better than this” and then they did, and it took off, and with their popularity came the rumours which they leant into. They don’t take themselves seriously, they’ve got a good sense of humour about it all.

3 words BISH BASH BOSH! The hardest song they have ever done. Pete was a shooter and hustler for the Ritchardson Firm in the eastend. Bas was a bareknuckle fighter and hustler also from the ends that became a music instructor later in life. Collectively, their grandkids also got them into hip-hop and they make their own music. Pete and Bas write all their own stuff but the grandkids help them with the modern lingo.

Bas the tall one have piano teacher on his CV, think that's part of why he ace double time rap. Pete & Bas Golf, go in to their backstories. And is a great track, probably my favourite. Plugged in with Fumes, a very close second.
@Ali1986Koksal9 күн бұрын
"Pete & Bas - Gangster Sh**" is my favorite track they've done to date. I think the general consensus in the over here in the UK was early on most people thought they were really just a joke act and expected them to disappear never to be heard of or from ever again. But what are we now 8 years on and credit to them for keeping at it because their obviously doing something right. There's always been this debate in the background as to whether or not they are genuinely writing their own material or not because of how old they are but personally for me like regardless of if they do or not I enjoy listening to them so who cares?!
@mgzcom2 күн бұрын
Both are former musicians. Pete was in a Ska band in his early days. Bas was a jazz piano player, teacher and music arranger. They both understand phrasing, syncopation which is part of jazz scanting, the basis o f voice rhythm, aka rapping.

Purportedly, in their younger days, they were associated with South London gangs. Bas, the taller one, did time in a HMP (Her Majesty's Prison) which he mentions in a couple of their songs. Bas's father ran illegal bare knuckle fights, which Bas participated in. Later in life, I'm assuming when they got out of the game, Bas was a music teacher, and Pete worked for the post office. They got involved in drill because of Pete's granddaughter. Whether they write their own lyrics is up for debate, but personally, I think they have a lot of help, but that they are involved in the writing process. I suspect this because of the older slang and references that they use, that a younger person is very unlikely to grasp (I'm 61 and my 45 year old nephew didn't know any of the old-timey references. Whether or not they write (many rappers don't write their own stuff, so I really don't care) they are definitely rapping themselves (they do live tours throughout England), and have collabbed with about a half dozen artists now (including T-Pain, who did a collab version of this song!!) who would not risk their reputations if Pete and Bas were not the real deal. If you check out their early stuff, you can see the progression in their abilities. Sindhu Sesh, Mr. Worldwide, Stepped into the Building, Longthorne Shotgun are just a few of my favs that I recommend you do next!! Enjoy!! :)
