This is what made MJ a worldwide musical king! The song is about uniting everyone worldwide against the things that divide us. If you get the chance look at the lyrics "Am I invisible cause you ignore me? Your Proclamation promised me free liberty. I'm tired of being a victim of shame! They're throwing me in a class with a bad name. I can't believe this is the land from which I came." MJ was one of if not the most vocal celebrities taking about and trying to do something about the problems of the world. His world tours weren't just concerts he would visit hospitals and meet with politicians try to help the common people. He gave away 500 million dollars in his lifetime. No one is doing what he was doing and despite all that the only thing the media pushed was that MJ was some Hollywood boogeyman.

He chose Salvador, the capital of Bahia state, specifically the historic city center where the slave market used to be located, the exact square where he filmed the video. This is because Salvador has the largest black population in the Americas, descendants of enslaved people, and is known as the "Black Rome" or "Brazilian Africa." He also filmed parts in the favelas of Rio, which are mostly populated by black descendants of enslaved people. The group performing in the clip is Olodum, considered the biggest cultural group celebrating African culture in the world.

There's a (Prison Version) it's super graphic which is why it was banned from multiple television channels & countries when he first premiered/released that version of the Short Film. The music industry, media etc. really didn’t want people to see the prison version because it shows the true meaning of "They Don’t Care About Us" being about the racial injustices against African Americans by police/cops and just in general. Which explains why the Brazil Version is more popular than the Prison Version. He did face ALOT of backlash for it but MJ always had a message, was clearly fed up and just did what was the right thing to do. And as we can see and feel, the song's message as well as both versions of the Short Film/Music Video still applies to the world‘s current status. Michael was truly a innovative human being a once in a lifetime visionary Long Live The King Of Music Forever!👑❤🌟💯(Definitely would recommend reacting to Michael Jackson "Earth Song" Music Video and definitely get around to reacting to "They Don't Care About Us (Prison Version)" Music Video as well!)

The song isn't specifically about African Americans and the police. Before the prison version of the music video starts, it literally says that this isn't about any 1 specific race or people.
@Milkers7772 ай бұрын
@@TheOneWhoSouls1405 That wasn't for/toward the message of the song. That was MJ saying this isn't against a specific race or religious group etc. it was mainly to set the record straight about who MJ wasn't against. But the song is 100% abut the mistreatment of African - Americans from Police READ THE LYRICS! And also MJ literally displayed the beating of Rodney King for a reason in the Prison Version, everything is strategic/genius when MJ is involved.
@TheOneWhoSouls14052 ай бұрын
@@Milkers777 The song isn't about African Americans. That would imply that it is only about African Americans. Which is false. The song is about injustice and prejudice towards everyone. Why do you think he mentions jews in the song? Just because he mentions a specific group of people doesn't mean that the song is entirely about that one group. “The song is in fact about the pain of prejudice and hate and is a way to draw attention to social and political problems. I am the voice of the accused and the attacked. I am the voice of everyone. I am the skinhead, I am the Jew, I am the Black Man, I am the White Man. I am not the one who was attacking. It is about the injustices to young people and how the system can wrongfully accuse them.” - Michael Jackson on “They Don’t Care About Us.” Nowhere does this quote say that the song is about injustices towards African Americans alone. He mentions skinheads, blacks, jews, and whites. The opening text to the original music video is as follows: "This film is not degrading to any one race, but pictorializes the injustices to ALL mankind." - Michael Jackson You mentioned that the quote was only about him saying that it wasn't against any specific race. But you ignored the second half of the quote, where he says that it, "pictorializes the injustices to ALL mankind". Which would include more than just black people. So I am correct when I say that the song isn't only about black people.

Michael released this track in 1996, and it's from his HIStory album released in 1995 after the false allegations in 1993. The album has many personal songs relating to the allegations such as this one where he is empathising with victims of the system, as he was a victim of it himself. Here is his actual quote explaining the song: "The song is in fact about the pain of prejudice and hate and is a way to draw attention to social and political problems. I am the voice of the accused and the attacked. I am the voice of everyone. I am the skinhead, I am the Jew, I am the Black Man, I am the White Man."

Loved you noticing how he changes his vocal delivery to catch the essence of the song. That I'd say is almost the biggest part of his genius as a vocalist. The fact that he does it and the fact that he can execute it so well. Especially that comment from you confirms to me that you're paying attention to what you're listening to. Not many (if almost any tbh) people have mentioned that part about his vocals from what I've watched of videos like these (or in comment sections etc). It's always interesting to hear your thoughts. 👍

@@jp3813I always referred to that section as an extacy trip😂
@goldencherry9033Ай бұрын
@@jp3813I saw the director doing a commentary somewhere and he said the point of the musical break in the middle is that it is unexpected, and it brings the high energy down, which then contrasts to when it suddenly kicks back in again. The video just carrying on without that moment is ‘expected’ and therefore suddenly cutting it off surprises the audience, which we know Michael was all about. Never predicable. When you watch it back with that in mind, it does then make more sense. I think the quote was to knock it down to build it back up.
