They were surprised on the fan project by the fans, they are fully aware by that time how big they already are but still so humble and always appreciate the fans. This isn't their first time to see this crowd so big, they toured and released an album every single year ( they are recording songs in hotel rooms and tour bus) and its just a very beautiful fan project. Maybe learn more about them first. To think the band’s reaction was due to the number of people there? No, it was about the fan project. By now, they were very used to these huge crowds. And it wasn’t just this song the entire crowd sang along to. It was every word, every song. RIP Payno. You are missed.

One Direction were one of the first young pop acts to do stadium tours during the time that stadium tours were reserved for giants like U2, Madonna etc. So when this was announced it was a huge deal. This is how popular One Direction is during the early 2010s. People underestimated them alot in terms of impact in pop culture. To think that they were the only act after The Beatles to have this kind of success coming from the UK/Ireland is unheard of. They won countless of huge awards from the BRITs, AMAs, VMAs. They were pop giants.

All the signs were organised by the fans and held up for the boys to surprise them. They held the UK flag and the Ireland flag for the boys (where they are from), and the seated section was planned out to do the "We are 1D family" with the colours of the flags as well. It was a surprise for them to see planned by the fans. The band had been big since their first album, yes getting bigger each time, but it was the project the flans had planned and pulled off that surprised them in this rather than how big the crowd was

This fan project always makes me cry on it's own. Coupled with losing Liam it feels more special. They were truly surprised by the project, their concerts didn't just have all those going on generally, I mean yes screaming fans and signs but that fan project was intricate and amazing. I am still amazed the fans pulled it off so perfectly. I"m a new fan and you should really do more One Direction, totally worth the rabbit hole, as are their solo careers.

I was lucky enough to see them in concert twice.... they are amazing... they are all brilliant and this was the song that the fans did this fan action that you see..... they did 5 world tours, 5 albums, 5 years.... and they have all had great solo success as well.... you should watch the whole concert, which you can find on KZbin

By this time they are already huge all around the world. They were surprised and amazed by the fan project aka all the flags the crowd is holding up during the song. It was a surprise for the boys all organized by the fans themselves. Since you are new to One Direction: They were created in 2010 when they were 16-18 years old. Released albums 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014 and 2015. This concert is from 2014 so it's their 3rd tour with songs mostly from their 3rd album. They did 4 tours between 2011-2015, they never toured the last album.

Oh wow just saw this and it made me really emotional since I hadn’t really seen any full 1D videos since Liam’s passing. I went to this very tour that same year, heard the song live, saw all 5 of them, including Liam, and having been a fan since 2012 it’s been so hard these last few weeks. I don’t think you guys can really grasp how HUGE they already were here, they just never lost their humility and gratefulness. I would love to see you get into more of 1D, they have some truly great music in only 5 years that they were together, and maybe you could go into them as soloists too, Harry has become a global superstar on his own and I think you’d enjoy him the most. I am a 54 year old woman and I will proudly admit that I'm a HUGE One Direction fan❤ Their first album...YUK 🤢 But I would say starting at their 3rd album, their music is actually incredible. These boys wrote their own lyrics and melodies and are so individually talented!! I really hope you like them enough to check out more ❤

Thanks for this 1D reaction video! And it’s appropriate timing. One Direction is a band worth becoming familiar with because they really did become the biggest boy band of all time each so individually, talented and charismatic, who became international superstars with their first album. Every single tour was the world tour by the way. Sero is definitely in Italy in Milan. I believe the reason that Jenna requested this song specifically during this concert is not because it was the absolute fan favorite but because it is so powerful because the work that the thousands of fans did to make this fan project happen to give back to the boys. Ahead of the concert a group of fans laid each individual flag on each seat were needed to be. The looks on the boys faces of definite awe and shock of what their fans did for them. Although this is a very well-known song, the fans really knew all of the words from every single song on every album! They played a huge variety at this concert from that hyper boy band to their many heartfelt slower harmony vocal focused ones. Their personalities and how they were marketed as individuals within the band was definitely to appeal to the young female audience to be able to feel a specific connection towards at least one of them in particular. They each have had successful solo careers. Although Harry Styles has rotted to an amazing level of fame, Louis Tomlinson has just finished two year and a half long world tours, Niall Horan has just finished his first world tour and concerts selling Out Madison Square, Gardens. Zane released his third album earlier this year and had a world tour scheduled that has been postponed because of Liam‘s tragic death although Liam‘s funeral was today, Zane Malik will begin his first world tour this Saturday. They are more than worth exploring some of their other music because they are so diverse. Story of my life is a great.MV to begin with. And please please please check out them as individual artists. Harry Styles it’s perfect to begin with his live performance on the Graham Norton show of “sign of the times”. Definitely check out our dear Louis Tomlinson, maybe even beginning with his.MV for the song “two of us“ which he wrote after his young mother passed from leukemia. And at this point, please check out some of Liam Payne‘s individual work. His lash release was called “teardrops“ and although it has a beautiful lyric video, there’s also an acoustic video, and a video of him singing it behind the scenes! I never heard this song as a love song. This seems more like a song about their career, being away from home and family for months on end. If you listen to it again with that in mind, it seems to make a lot more sense. At least to me! This is the first time I'm seeing one of their performances since losing Liam. The way tears immediately came to my eyes... I still can't believe we've lost him...

I was more or less a casual fan in the early 2010s because I would watch their interviews and thought they had really charismatic personalities, but I wasn't a fan of their radio hits. it wasn't until I delved into their last few albums that I really became a fan, their music took me by surprise tbh. They matured a lot but unfortunately their management would always release their commercial garbage as singles and not their better songs, which imo continued to hurt their public image because they could never escape the poppy boyband image they created at first. I'd suggest listening to What a Feeling, Where do Broken Hearts Go, Stockholm Syndrome, Fireproof, If I could fly, Temporary Fix etc. those are usually the songs that take a lot of non-fans by surprise because they're genuinely GOOD Also, to put into perspective how huge their fanbase was at their peak, Stadium tours at this point in time were not common especially on an international scale. It was reserved for Madonnas, Rolling Stones, U2 etc. It was a HUGE thing when it was announced. Before them there had only been 11 stadium tours, after they disbanded there's been over 20 now. But they managed to sell out full fledged stadium tours before Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift etc. in a much smaller time

I am late 60s and only got to know 1D after hearing Harry Styles solo music (you should check some out, maybe Kiwi on the Late Late Show or Sign Of The Times on the Graham Norton show) I went right back to their 1st album and yes it was written for them, but by the best song writers around, right from the get go their harmonising is second to none, as their albums progressed the members wrote more of the songs, the last album Made In The AM is my favourite but there was only four of them, by then Zayn had left, I saw Harry live last year, it was brilliant, made me wish I had known 1D before they split, there live concerts looked such fun, so sad about Liam ❤
