Rhianna had a huge hit with this song and here, Angelina performs it on the spur of the moment at her home with her friend Ivan playing guitar for her. He wasn't fully versed in the song and is seen following her lead as best as he can. Angelina has to arrange the song as she reads lyrics off a tablet at her side since she wasn't fully versed in the song either. The result is a rendition that brings forth more emotion laden penetration than Rhianna. Simply a mind boggling performance.

All these home videos like this with guitarist, Ivan Mendez, are when she was 12 yo & they are exactly as you predicted. In an interview, Ivan said they would decide on a song to record, then they would spend a few minutes going over the chord changes & Angelina would get the lyrics on her i-pad. She would decide on the tempo & tell him just follow me. The only times they ever needed a 2nd take was if he messed up because he said she never did. I think this on-the-fly cover of Stay is better than the original.

Ivan Mendez was Angelina's (12y) guitarist in LA in 2018. In an interview with Alan Papier on his KZbin channel, Ivan told the story of how the cover came about. In a nutshell ( I mean in summary, I can't give an interview of almost 40 minutes in two sentences, please listen to Ivan Mendez yourself. ) "Angelina doesn't have a wish list of songs, she decides spontaneously if she likes a song. After hearing this song she says great song and has downloaded the lyrics. Then Ivan played the melody " OK, well, let's start ". Then the cover was recorded in one take, Angelina sang the song here for the first time after her arrangement without rehearsing beforehand. 👣 💯 *AJ* 💯👣

I don’t understand when people criticize her for doing covers. What artist hasn’t started with covers? I think they forget that her career started when she was a little girl and she is still very young. Who was doing original material at 8? Doing covers and studying other artists is music education. I think Angelina has no intention of being just a cover artist. Songwriting and presenting her own music is very important to her. She says she has written over 100 songs and she was 11 when she recorded her first two originals. Her lyrics and song ideas come from her journals which she says she writes in everyday and has since she was a little girl. I think the criticism is unfair. Linda Ronstadt made a career out of cover songs. Elvis never wrote any of his sings. He did either covers or songs others wrote for him. If these critics really knew anything about Angelina they would know there is so much more to her than covers.

She is signed with the same label as Taylor Swift and I'm sure she is aware her days as the raining performer are soon to be at an end. We Do not know that for certain and some people believe based on what they're hearing is that it did get some balancing, or reverb (most probably) Or other treatments post recording from the phone., Is on a laptop program. There is no guarantee of this being a Live-Live as you purport. Other than that it is a raw sound. I think someone also mentioned that You can alter the microphone to add production during the recording, such as reverb, And such...

You are absolutely right about the process. Ivan Mendez, the guitarist, would come over, maybe have dinner with the family, then Angelina would maybe suggest a song, and he might not even know it. They would play with it for a while and do a take like this. Notice that she is reading the lyrics from her iPad on her lower left. Who else can do this? Angelina and her family moved to L.A. when she was 12-1/2 for her career. Ivan accompanied her for about a year.

To all nice and supportive, but some impatient fans! There is a limit to what an 18-year-old artist can achieve with work... It is understandable that the a few fans is impatient, but she is only 18 for God's sake! She is so skilled that she can actually almost set the pace herself. Within the music industry, all important people know who she is, and I can promise you she is a big name within the industry. She has performed at major events. She has perfomed for 40,000 with Norha Jones only 10 years old, Las Vegas, London, Germany, Brazil, and Nobel Peace Prize (to times), several original releases, and the list is long... Many people know who Norha Jones is, but do you know that including cover channel Angelina has approx. 550,000 more subscriptions. I repeat: Angelina is 18 years old, so maybe a little more patience. guys. Don't just think uncritically as fans about what we want at an inhuman rocket speed! She is only 18 years old!

🥰. Geez I make use of little things, a little slip in the lyrics, what which of us is caving. Her pulling us out of the trance to look over at the lyrics. Little human moments, so necessary, a reminder throughout that this is a 12 year old singing for real. So unbelievable I adore and need those human moments throughout or I'd struggle to appreciate and remember what I'm watching, as if it isn't even real. 😐

Thanks for a great reaction! So much emotion for someone so young, mind blowing! The latest thing she's done is collaborate with Toby Gad, famous songwriter for Beyonce, John Legend, Fergie, etc. They recorded a new version of "If I Were A Boy". They're also co-writing songs, one of which they premiered at The Hotel Cafe in May. Believe me you'll fall off your chairs, it is THAT GOOD! I think this song will be Angelina's ticket to stardom. AJ is 12 here, and this is one of her first performances with Ivan Mendez on guitar, and the wonderful Neumann mic she had just received for her 12th Bday. I've listened to the original several times, and for me, Angelina's is better. She recorded this and two other great performances in April/May of 2018. Apprix 13 year old for a long time this was one of my top 5 Angelina cover songs. However shes done so many now and it dropped down. Check out her Lana Del Reys BORN TO DIE and Mileys NOTHING BREAKS LIKE A HEART all roughly the same age and if you watch these in close proximity it show cases her virtuosity.
