@trishc3099 I played in a rock band in high school for a bit not long after that song came out, and we included it in our set and I was so happy the day I finally learned to play the guitar parts on that. It's such a fun song, and of course we would all shout that line! 😀

“ Time to play B sides “ what a great lyric. In case you didn’t know, the B sides were the backsides of 45 records. The A side contained the “hit record” by the group. Although sometimes the B side became more popular than the A side.

I have a pet theory about the delivery of this line. The enunciation of the line seems very purposeful. I’m theorizing that in the initial take the line might have sounded a little run together and hard to make out, like “timetoplaybsides”. If you have to go back to clean that up, and especially if it takes more than one take to do so, you take exaggerated care to make sure Each. Word. Stands. Out. Now I readily admit that I have no evidence that this happened, and I could be totally wrong, but the way they sing that line just suggests that to me.

I think this song is about the band touring and being on the road and the fans are the ones they're burnin' for. In the first verse he says "Home on the highway" and then he says "Home I'll never be" basically describing what it's like being in a touring band and he's basically saying you fans are the reason we're doing this. We're "Burnin' For You"
@michelelearner297

You're probably right. I think some people at the time who didn't think much about the lyrics, though, may have just gotten a surface level -- the singer is attracted to whoever "you" is.

This was the only tour I saw them on when the album came out in 1981. This is my favorite track from the album with runners up being Joan Crawford and Veterans Of The Psychic Wars which was also in the movie Heavy Metal which has a great soundtrack. Burning For You was as close to mainstream as BOC got and still sounds good today, it's been part of a Playlist for me since 1981. Godzilla is a good one as well as Take Me Away.

Definitely some more BOC would rock the house! If you want to hear something even harder that was also one of their popular radio songs, I'd go with Godzilla; if you want something epic, I'd go for either Astronomy or Veteran of the Psychic Wars. Those are some of the better deep cuts. I also gave the links below. Veteran of the Psychic Wars was used in the cult classic animated movie, "Heavy Metal" from 1981. The guitar solo in the live version is nothing short of amazing, which is why I gave the live version for that one. Godzilla - kzbin.info/www/bejne/fHaUc6ykmtuXi9E Astronomy - kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2HXkKqYZdGIjZI Veteran of the Psychic Wars (live) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/baGplZ6hn6yce9U

That was so fun. And I love Sam's description of the effect of the album art, laugh. Those were some really pithy couplets in the verses, and I think my favorite and it's almost kind of a pun, is in the second one where he's talking about time, and he slips in that line "Time to play B-sides"... know someone who grew up in the 70s, vinyl, including singles, was a huge part of my overall love for music. There was also a tip of the hat to an early Rolling Stones song in there as well. ❤
