My wife and I are from around Dayton and we always got Marions and a few pitchers of beer every time we went back. She just passed away from breast cancer last week and she was always wanting Dave to do the Marion's review She just missed it but I know wherever she is she is smiling. Thanks Dave! Being a Daytonian and seeing Dave here giving Marion's a good review makes me so happy!!! The pizza and the restaurant itself really becomes a big slice of nostalgia for a lot of people here. I grew up stopping by there after tball games & going to birthday parties. It's almost a part of the family!

But unfortunately Dave only considers Pizza to be Sauce Cheese and crushed he doesn't care about your special toppings and all that crap that's actually negative marks in his eyes. I knew that Marion's wouldn't gone or a very high score if he wanted a true Pizza that represents this region well he should have went to the Flying Pizza that is the best that Dayton has to offer in my opinion. While Marion's is good the best topping they have being sausage I knew it wouldn't register well with Dave he has a unique criteria that he follows for his reviews.

Dayton Native. The Super Cheese add banana peppers is the best. That crumbly sausage is out of this world. Marion's is the spot for every post-little league game I had growing up. It tastes like nostalgia.

Grew up eating Marion's Pizza every Friday night. It's truly a Dayton thing (sports banquets, birthday parties, etc.). Typically people not from Dayton don't enjoy it, so a 7.4 is a solid score from an outsider.

That looked like a solid Midwest pie. Growing up around Chicago, everyone always thinks deep dish. But this is the real type of pie the vast majority here eat and love. Small square slices, share it with a group, thin, crispy, and delicious.

Dayton native here. Dayton pizza is always in the little squares. Glad he got one from an older oven where they are always done and crispy. I hope he went to Cassanos as well. Age old debate...Marion's vs Cassanos. I'm a Cassanos gal myself. Fair rating I say.

If you're in Dayton you get at minimum pepperoni and sausage on it, the ground up sausage is what makes it DAYTON style pizza separating it from Chicago, St Louis, and Milwaukee style pizza.

We all know the rules of course. But outside of the rules, the Marion's sausage pizza would be in my top 2 pizzas I'd want on my deathbed. I assume Dave will hit Cassano's too, and I would say that salty pizza would be in my top 15 also. Nice to see decent scores on some Dayton classics. The sausage from Marion's and the saltiness of Cassano's are niches I've not seen anywhere else in the country.

Thanks for the Marion's review Dave. The only way to get past the dryness is return more than 75% of that pizza and have them remake it with the sausage topping. Marion's barely uses any sauce and it's always going to be dry if you just get the cheese unless you get the double or triple cheese. Everyone knows the rules in Dayton Dave thanks to you!

@@TheKmullins87 I split my time between Virginia and the outer Banks. There is acceptable stuff but honestly Papa John's is just as good down this way. Sometimes you can get a decent stromboli or calzone but that's about it. I've been back and forth between the north and south all my life and I lived in East Tennessee for quite a bit of it. Great people, worst damn sandwiches and pizza you'll ever try to eat. Philly has decent cheesesteaks and New York has good pizza, but I have found that Jersey has it all and does it right for the most part. That being said, you'll never catch my ass living up that way again. Good fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, fishing, and southern cooking is a good substitute. Plus freedom.

Same type of pizza you get often in northern wisconsin or northern MN. I love it because the cheese quality; can cook it fully without the greasy mess. But they do get a little dry so a side of sauce is perfect to also dip a little... Or toppings; they add moisture too.

I live a few blocks from that very location. My Dad and I go, about once a month. My Brother moved to Chicago, and when he comes back with his family, his kids always ask to get some “Dayton Pizza” during their visit. (Even, Chicagoans like some different pizza type) - Marion’s has a generous Veggie. Dad and I may get sausage and green olives. Dinner salads. Their sandwich’s are good too. And, Marion’s is still tasty cold, next day ☺️

I move to Dayton about 5 years ago and the day I went to Marion's Piazza the line was around the building. I actually waited for like an hour and a half and they had only charged me a dollar for the pizza the reason why the pizza was only a dollar is because they were celebrating a number of years being opened so I got two pizzas one with pepperoni and the other Deluxe. It was worth the wait my pizza was hot by time I got home I loved it. The crazy part to this is I used to be a manager for Domino's and I still think Marian beats everyone except Donatos it's a close call between the both for me. Thanks for doing the review if I had to give her the score 1 out of 10 it would definitely be at 9 for me❤

Not sure what Portnoy orders on his pizzas, maybe it’s a set formula. I’ve never watched his reviews before. He said it was kinda dry, but it appears he got very little in the way of toppings. Gotta have pepperoni , sausage, finely chopped green peppers and red onions at least. Grew up in the Dayton area (Centerville), and along with a Pine Club filet, one of the must haves when I’m in the area. Anyone I’ve ever taken to Marion’s loves it! I’ve never had pizza I like better. Thin, crisp crust, not Chicago style (what’s he talking about?). Great pizza sauce. And a fantastic, slightly charred taste. Give it a try if you ever see a Marion’s in Dayton, Troy, Centerville, Beavercreek or Mason.
