Know Steve almost forty years and a fun terrific guy. Patsy's, phenomenal pizza my favorite the pepperoni garlic pie burnt. Meatball spaghetti is terrific as well as many board specials. But I always hollered at Steve, why didn't you save mom's cheesecake before she passed -yeah I knew mom too and like Steve was a personality and a half. Be seeing you real soon.

This is a local joint for me, and I feel very lucky to be able to drop by and enjoy one of their pies whenever I'm in the mood. Along with Pizza Town (Elmwood Park) and Bruno's (Clifton), Patsy's is yet another establishment that helps identify this region as a hot spot of pizza history and culture. I don't feel I'm exaggerating (though I'm admittedly rather biased -- but who cares) when I say this area of northern NJ really is blessed with some of the best pizza in the country.

I’ve been fortunate enough to have pizza at famous places all over the world, and Patsy’s is hands down my favorite so far. Their pepperoni and garlic pie damn near sent me to heaven. We used to go there when Marilyn owned it, that’s her son. Patsy’s was one of my dads spots and he’d always bring a pie home to get himself out of trouble for having a few after work. Years ago, there was a place in North Conway NH known for their lasagna. The place was a "dump" (it wasn't, just never remodeled since the early 50s) but everyone loved it. It was a bit dark and full of old wood floors and booths. Sometime in the early 80s, they gutted and remodeled it and it looked like a crappy high school cafeteria. I think within a couple of years they were out of business. Ambiance is important in the sit down restaurant biz.

Paterson! I was born there. Most of my family grew up in Paterson. My aunt Sadie& Ruby had the little dinner in downtown. My grandfather Bill Cohen had the gas station. He had to ration gas during WW2 for the truckers. Lots of memories. I live in Massachusetts now. I miss the pizza in N.J. and N.Y. They dont know how to make great pizza around here! Ok! 8.2 is low for this, they deserved an 8.6 easy, it’s the best pizza I’ve ever had, granted I haven’t had as many as Dave and I haven’t done a lot of eating in New York but still I think it deserves a higher score. For my taste it’s a 9.1, maybe a 8.9 on a bad day. It’s got a good helping of high quality cheese, good sauce, the best crust I’ve ever had by a mile, and it’s cooked to perfection. Just a tremendous slice all around, bravo to the guys over there at patsy’s tavern and restaurant Edit: wow I just got to the end of the review and saw he changed his score to an 8.9 or 9.1, what a coincidence. Also, I don’t care if he wants to say he can’t change the score on a technicality, he changed it whether he wants to admit it or not, as he should. Keeping it at 8.2 is bad for his reputation, like he said, if patsy’s isn’t a 9, nobody is

Dave, for your information, 3 blocks away from Patsy's was the location of the Lafayette Bar and Grill, 428 East 18th Street. That is where Ruben Hurricane Carter was accused of gunning down 3 people in 1966 and went to jail for 19 years. They made a movie about it called Hurricane with Denzel Washington. It is still some type of bar today.
