My husband was a teacher in the San Francisco Public Schools in 1975 and he taught in a special Federally funded program teaching reading and math to underprivileged children in Hunters Point area. Our 2 daughters were being bussed to the neighboring Black neighborhood as The Consent Decree had started in 1971. SF was the first school district in the nation to start after sued by the NAACP after The Civil Rights Amendment had passed in 1964. The school district was short of funds and this concert was promoted by Bill Graham to raise funds for the school district for PE equipment and music programs. My husband's close elementary teacher friend, Margie Baker, who later became a jazz singer, brought Dizzy Gillespie in 1976 for the BiCentennial Celebration to give children of color pride in their inheritance - SF's Black Fillmore District in the 1950s was one of the top areas in the US for the great Jazz performers. Dizzy was a friend of Margie's. She became Dr Margie Baker - doctorate in Education. Thanks to everyone who paid to go to the concert!

I felt a sort of Catharsis (purification of soul) listening to this recording. I'm from the 70s, a "dinosaur", so this is my music. Needless to say anything about modern superficial "music", which is so far away from these masterpieces of 70s. That's one of the best things we can experience in life. This night, while listening to "Helpless" again and again I suddenly burst into tears, which is rare for me, and I was feeling an acute pain for the humanity and all cruelty that's happening in this world, strange and wonderful as it is. Perhaps I shouldn't write this, but I can't restrain myself and withhold my emotion. I'm just trying to share it with other lovers of Music on this planet. This kind of sound makes us better human beings and helps us think about higher matters. It's not possible to explain it, I'm sorry... You can just feel it in the music. We are very small and HELPLESS in front of something that's much more powerful than us. We can just admire this sound. It's mind-blowing how Young and Dylan did this magic... No words can explain this. JUST GREATLY THANKFUL TO YOU, DEAR MASTERS OF SOUND. Hats off... We'd be happy to have the 70s with us forever.

Love this grew up in the sixties listening to my older brothers Bob Dylan LP's and then in the 70's bought Neil Young's Harvest, which I listened to over and over again. Awesome that they sing this, one of my favourite songs together.

So very excellent to see this photo from that day back in '75 when I was 18 and watching this concert live. One of my best concert memories. Everyone played this great concert... Santana, Joan Baez, and the Grateful Dead... fantastic!

Published on my birthday April 13th. Neil Young shaped my life when I was in an Orphanage and I was getting ready for the world. He would be proud of me. I wanted to marry him, he married a pretty celebrity recently!💔

1970 An old villa with bay windows was the perfect place to listen to Helpless. A flatmate's LP. I didn't buy it until years later.

I was at the show in the picture. It was one of the Best, and I've seen Dylan more than a dozen times. The Band, was stellar, of course, and Neil was at his Neiliest! It was a "best of", show, waaay before they did that, as the three acts traded hits and backed each other flawlessly. Marlon Brando warmed the crowd before their set. It was really amazing.

John Abramson And it was earthly 1975.... Between the mod 60s and the 80s what ever it was.... Speaking of Bob Dylan and Marlon Brando.... I heard at a Chabad Passover sedar in Santa Monica, the Rabbi said Now, Marlon Brando will read the next passage...Then the rabbi asked Bob Dylan to lead in singing.. The other guests were in for a treat.

I heard this the song Helpless on casette tape in "72 when a friend hiked up where we were staying Big Sur, a trail takes you up , it's kinda steep, and there's water and a place to camp out, I was only 19 and we all listened to Helpless and the rest of that Album from Neil Young, a friend brought a cassette player and tape, with and batteries I thought I'd died and gone to heaven lol, listening to that up in the quiet outside out in the open
