I’ll always remember waking up on that cold snowy Saturday morning. It was on every channel. I lived 7min roughly away from the location. I remember my sister freaking out because her best friends brother worked there. Turns out, he had switched shifts that night to go catch a Palatine Pirates HS game. I was 11yrs old when it all went down and I’ll never forget it

This is an inaccurate description of what happened. Luna was known to the owners because he had worked there. The owners let them in at closing time. They ordered a four-piece chicken and sat down for awhile. They did not slip in unnoticed and immediately kill everyone.

Right, they left DNA on that chicken which helped convict them.

I remember my Spanish teacher, who teaches at the closest junior high to the Browns Chicken, (now a Chase bank) knew one of the killers. James Degorski. My Spanish teacher knew him Elementary, Junior High, and High School. She said “He was the weird kid, he was the one to stay away from”. I live about a minute away from the Brown’s Chicken. Very sad that seven people passed away this day. Edit: There is still a Brown’s Chicken in Palatine, about 3 minutes away from the location. It’s in the 2nd closest plaza there.

I lived on the same street as Degorski. I was 5 years behind him in school, so I was in 2nd grade when he was in 6th and that would have been our last year spent in the same school. Our block was dynamic and diverse, and most of us hung out as kids. I didn't cross paths with Degorski much, but I clearly remember my mom telling my brother and I to keep our distance from him. We were long gone by the time it came out that he was involved, but neither my family nor the neighbor family with whom we are still best friends was surprised.

CCTV was prevalent in fast food chains back to the 70s and 80s. One of my first jobs was at a fast food chain only a town away from Palatine and we had cameras all over the store and exits and I’m talking 1986. Of course it was not high definition and there was no sound. What was not mentioned was the fact that the gas station across the street had cctv but did not mention they had cctv until a week or so later at which time the VHS tapes had been overwritten.

They existed. They were not common in such an establishment due to the price tag, which doesn't make much sense to me, as the owner of the Sonic I worked at in school made over six figures, in 1996 dollars, and security systems are a write off. They could be claimed as capital expense, and she might have dropped down a tax bracket in the year she bought them, depending on the package.
@LubomirGeorgiev6 ай бұрын
I think she meant unlike today, not every establishment had CCTV. Nowadays basically every place does

The show cold blooded on discovery investigation does better job. The episode is called “7 in the freezer “ . You didn’t even mention the video tape they recorded. And the owners wife was killed different than everyone else. They didn’t didn’t do for the money the had done just to see how it felt like. They missed a lot of important facts.

As a kid growing up in the outskirts of Chicago during the late 1980s' - early 90s'. My father and I would often frequent the Brown's Chicken in the nearby suburb of Burbank. Hands down, that was our favorite spot when we went on our daily outings. The food was much better than KFC and Church's. We were regulars in that spot. Unfortunately... After the horrific events of Palatine. The chain took a massive nosedive. Business really went bad after all the negative publicity. My father and I saw the decline afterwards in the few times we went back to our regular Brown's Chicken. Shame really. Had those events never happened along with the barrage of bad press. I truly believe Brown's could've flourished in the 2000s and given Popeye's and KFC stiff competition.

I remember that all to well I worked in Mount Prospect Browns Chicken I was one of the managers that trained that franchise owner I worked that night it was a Friday I was doing inventory til 1am the next morning when I went to bank before I got to work the teller was telling me to turn on the radio my stomach sank when I had gotten to my restaurant there were cops and news crew all over Jim Flattery I believe his name was started interviewing me they wanted to go inside and film because we had the same setup but Frank Portillo called me and said don’t let them in we were so busy that Saturday. I heard them here doing the show but they are wrong not Dick Portillo owned Browns but Frank Portillo was President, Tom Kenifick was vice President I had quit about 6 months later I felt the company was going down in sales a lot. I remember I used to think it was a mob hit because when I was training the franchise buyer I always heard him on the phone in back of store yelling on phone not good choice words about money and forgive me I don’t remember his name because that was over thirty years ago, I worked for Browns Chicken for many year since I was 16 years old up until around 32-33 years old
