Our first journey on BART's brand-new Fleet of the Future is here. In the longest documented ride on the new train since its inaugural run on Friday, January 19, 2017, experience the first full-length journey on BART's long-awaited new train cars, from MacArthur to Union City.
The train you see in this journey was the first Fleet-of-the-Future construct to run on the entire BART system. It took some effort, but we eventually tracked it down to broadcast it to the rest of the community. It is now joined by a few other new train sets that operate on different lines in the system.
Passing by the Hayward Maintenance Complex, we see multiple new train cars waiting to enter revenue service in the future, pointing to a time where BART's Fleet of the Future train cars will become a staple of the Bay Area. This video is only the beginning, and as more Fleet of the Future trains are introduced across the BART system, we will capture as much footage as is necessary to document its fast-moving incorporation into the DNA of Bay Area Rapid Transit.
Filmed on Tuesday, January 30, 2018.

Quick apologies for the sub-par audio quality in the video. After a few years of abuse to the camera's mic in the form of filming on many ear-piercing BART rides, it finally gave out. Have no fear, however; a new camera with a new mic is coming soon.
More about the Fleet of the Future:
The Fleet of the Future is manufactured by Bombardier in Plattsburgh, New York. The first car was delivered to BART's Hayward Maintenance Complex in April 2016; since then, one train is in revenue service, and over a dozen are undergoing testing across the BART system. More cars will be delivered every month.
Over the course of the next five years, a grand total of 775 new train cars will enter service throughout the BART system, heavily outnumbering the current fleet of 669 cars. By 2022, all cars will be delivered.
The Fleet of the Future is:
Cooler - Air conditioning flows from the ceiling of each car, rather than from the windows.
Quieter: Micro-plug doors seal out noise from the outside environment.
Comfortable: The new padded seats are easy to clean and come with lumbar support.
More accessible: With automated announcements, electronic screens that show where you are in the BART system, screens flashing the next/current stop, and plenty of wheelchair space, the Fleet of the Future is miles more accessible compared to the old train cars.
Each car now has three doors on each side, compared to the two doors on the old fleet, which provides for easier boarding/exiting of the train during peak rush hours.
Each train car is equipped with wheelchair space, bright green senior/disabled seats, and three bike slots to place your bike on.
The Fleet of the Future is ready to transport hundreds of millions of riders for the next 40 years. And as more cars enter revenue service across the BART system, they will surely become a symbol of the San Francisco Bay Area for years to come.
