that's cool, the key to good simpsons stories even though Homer does silly antics, he still loves his family. They work in their own silly way.

"Good-natured bumbler" is how I would describe Homer, especially in earlier seasons. Later seasons, with Jerkass Homer, seem to think that he's a terrible, selfish person who deserves to have bad things happen to him.
