@@ladder3257 I really hope that they put rail on the new Richmond Bridge that they are supposed to build in the next couple of decades. At this point all we need is indeed a rail connection to Richmond BART station to achieve meaningful North Bay rail. It's kind of exciting to think that we are actually very close to the original BART dream map now!

BART has three different fleets that where purchased at different times 439 original cars where put into service in 1972 then 150 next fleet of cars purchased in 1988 and then 80 in 1994. All of them still run today, along with the new fleet being rolled out as of right now, with a full completed system of new BART cars by 2022. Replacing the whole 3 set of old BART cars.

Rode the BART (awesome 10-cars trains!) when I was there last December. Here in SE Asia however, most newer and upcoming systems use shorter and shorter sets (4-3 cars) because it's operationally cheaper, I guess and at a minute headway. And with full ATO, T/O job is mostly restricted to those commuters and intercity express services nowadays :(

@OliverSolorzano
@OliverSolorzano 5 жыл бұрын
tetsuyanamamura It is both a subway and commuter train. When it crosses through the big cities in the CA Bay Area like San Francisco and Oakland it operates as a subway with both underground and above ground stations that are consistently close to each other. When it’s crossing through the downtown areas of S.F and Oakland it’s primarily underground. However since the train reaches cities farther away of Oakland and S.F, then in those areas it tends to operate more as a commuter train with mostly 1 station per town or small city.

The stations on bart are way too far apart
@sfmike711
@sfmike711 6 жыл бұрын
QuarioQuario5431: The stations are not "way too far apart". Outside of the urban portions (SF, Oakland, Berkeley), BART functions as a commuter railroad. Most commuter lines in the US have one station per suburban city or town. Suburban life doesn't require stations every few miles (or closer) as an urban area does. The new stations which San José will have will be built closer together. I hope this helps.
@QuarioQuario54321
@QuarioQuario54321 6 жыл бұрын
sfmike711 But it’s supposed to function as a metro so therefore ridership would increase and rent would decrease from close stations. Even the transbay tube has a possiblr station.
@sfmike711
@sfmike711 6 жыл бұрын
QuarioQuario54321: A few developers have built transit communities right next to BART stations in the suburbs. Several more are planned. While this encourages people who regularly use BART to rent near a station, sorry to say that it doesn't translate into lower rent for those apartments or condos. As for a station for the TBT, say at Treasure Island or Yerba Buena Island, that would be extremely difficult. The Tube is under water and covered by ballast to protect it from anything being dropped or dragged along the Bay floor as well as to hold it in place. Construction would probably involve building a coffer dam around the desired location and pumping out the water. Since the Tube only passes near these islands, some sort of underwater structure containing a walkway, movable pedestrian sidewalk, elevators, ventilation system, etc. would be needed to access an entrance on the island topside. While it's technically possible and more than likely doable, the price tag would be astronomical and the passenger load would be negligible. YBI has a Coast Guard station. TI has housing but not a big population. Other than the view of the City and Oakland from the vantage point of an island, there's not that much out there to draw visitors. Muni (the City's transit) has one bus line which connects TI with the City. There's talk of a ferry boat to provide service to the City (projected start date 2022).
