The Subway Between Philadelphia and New Jersey (PATCO) 2018

The PATCO (Lindenwold High Speed Line) is a heavy rail line that connects New Jersey to Philadelphia: running underground in Philly, crossing over the Ben Franklin Bridge, through Camden and then a few suburbs in New Jersey above ground. The PATCO reaches speeds of up to 60 miles an hour (in service) and carries around 40,000 daily passengrers.

Always the smoothest of all metropolitan Philadelphia heavy rapid rail lines. Excluding regional rail (including ACL[Atlantic City Line]), trolleys (subway surface and heritage lines) and light rail (Media-Sharon Hill Lines).

The Media-Sharon Hill lines are trolleys, too! Just a little different (longer cars, pantographs, double ended, three lights on each unit). If you really want to label something as light rail, try the NHSl... It straddles the line between light and heavy rail (may be considered an interurban).

Patco was actually part of the board street subway in philadelphia It was called the bridge line It closed off but there is a connection

This pissed me off every time I see the rebuilt PATCO cars, because MTA New York City Subway could had rebuilt again the 1,500 old B Division STAINLESS STEEL subway cars like this instead of putting them in the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean (in which the MTA is still paying for in back interest to lenders) and buying 1, 600 new ones, just buy at least 100-250 new subway cars to increase service, and use the rest of the left over money to start fixing the dam subway signals and stations.

They did rebuild them. You can't keep things forever. This is the first time the PATCO cars have been refurbished.

In my 70 years never heard the PATCO line to philly called a subway even though it goes under ground for last mile on philly side. Better & cleaner then the Broad St subway or Market Frankford line that run thru philly. Hate taken either line after 8 PM.

Have they blocked access to the railfan window seat in the front of these cars? I managed to nab it on a run from Lindenwald into the city during a trip in October 2015, and it was a very nice view.

There's a slight window there to view from, but definitely not the same as the older one.

Since they rebuilt them, you can't sit in that front seat anymore. But the seat right behind it offers a nice view albeit with the frame in the way.

that's because despite the rebuild, the DC motors actually are the original ones. the propulsion and ATO systems are all new but the motors are the same.

Compared to other systems, yeah it is
