The name Muni Metro is super misleading! It’s funny that it’s branded as a light rail “metro” when, as soon as it leaves the tunnel, it’s actually one of the most genuine classic streetcar systems in America. The other is Philly. While other systems, even Boston and Pittsburgh, run mainly on their own ROW, Muni metro runs extensively right in the street!

@@deanl4575 I was born and raised in San Francisco. I use to live on the corner of Church St. and Hancock St. above to the right of the tracks shown in the video. The shot is low angle and the distance from the stop in the background at Church and 20th to the camera at Church and 18th is 955 feet, four city blocks, which makes the foliage look denser. This video was shot in March. What you are seeing around the tracks is the result of two-to-three months of an annual rain season. in Europe, we only call a tram or a fast tram. We also have narrow-gauge trams and they are even smaller. With us, light rail looks like a normal train, only a shorter train. And this light railway in America is an ordinary tram and look like our old trams from the 70s.......

I don't like that train or any city that has that train. I have been starving and homeless and bullied, robbed, assaulted, and the entire residents are aware of my difficult life because they are the people making it difficult and I committed suicide so many attempts because I don't want to starve anymore. They have been taking my money and leaving me without, I don't want to live anymore

Doesn't really fit the definition of light rail; that's just a marketing ploy. More accurate description would be a streetcar. After all, all of this trackage except the subway was served by PCC's until about 40 years ago.
@roachtoasties
@roachtoasties 6 жыл бұрын
Agree. They're trams, except in a few spots where they have their own right of way. On some parts of the system you're just poking along at 10 mph as they share the street with cars and stop at what seems like every other intersection. In Los Angeles, it's more like light rail, but things would be better if they could get every section where they need to stop at street lights their own right of way.

@janettemcclelland2959
@janettemcclelland2959 6 жыл бұрын
joel k Correct. And it was just the N that ran in the subway. And all PCCs on Market on weekends. And at some point the Boeing trains kept breaking down,and they had to postpone retiring the PCC'S in 1981 because of it. I think the J was the last line to be phased in. Grew up riding these lines.

joe stewart I’d say most San Franciscans actually enjoy those wire messes, or at the very least don’t care about them. It’s part of the scenery of the city. Few US cities have this sort of density of trolley bus and streetcar routes, so it’s kind of an unmistakable sign of being in San Francisco. I know I loved looking at them when I was a kid.
