2 fun facts from Italy about wine: - If you are in Italy near Chieti (A province in Abruzzo) stop by Ortona: there is a fountain from which spills free red wine all year round (I went there once, the wine was actually really good); there are other wine fountains in Italy, but they are only available during certain events. - There is a legend of a ghost living in the cellars of the Castle of Montevecchio, in Tuscany; he was the owner of the castle, a passionate winemaker, and supposedly he inspects the quality of the wine in the cellars and the vineyards of the area.

INB4: bartenders tend to be well versed in alcohol and other drinks, but they're NOT experts or end-all-be-all on wine, as for that you HAVE to be a sommelier. P.S. Some of the (definitely not all) Georgian (country, not state...sigh) wines are fine/good, but...Crimean (specifically solely Crimean, grown and produced on the soil of Crimea) wineries completely BTFO anything in that part (southern Russia and southern/southern-eastern countries neighboring it, as well as majority of mediterrian countries) of the land. Crimean "Massandra" and "Inkerman" wineries are especially of such high quality that they've been widely recognized all around the globe as the top tier that easily rivals (and beats very many) European "classics" and *most certainly* beats any America-produced products of this kind. Only Russian "Abrau-Durso" winery from the mainland southern Russia (Krasnodar region) managed to get close to Crimean wineries in sheer quality, but that particular winery specializes solely on making sparkling (champagne) wines, while Crimean wineries have much wider/broader range of specialization. P.P.S. I personally prefer to consume only purely white dry or, at the most, rose half-dry kinds. Reds are somewhat fine, but most of the time they're just too sweet for me. And I absolutely cannot stand/tolerate any portwines (a.k.a. "portwein" or "porto", very strongly alcoholic/highly-spirited "fortified" wines), any vermouths (bleeh!), and brandies (too hard for me, it's basically like drinking grape vodka, and I just can't stand vodkas). I'm fine with good quality pear calvados, though.

Have you tried Peller Estates' red ice wine? 😊 Also, what red and white wines are best for making sangria?
@ChicagoReacts11 ай бұрын
I have not had Peller Estates. I have had some Pillitteri ice wine varietals, which were alright. I am not usually a huge fan of sweet wine. Only in very small quantities. As far as sangria goes, I usually like something sort of lighter as a base for red. Something like Pinot Noir, or sometimes a fruit forward Cab Sauv. For whites, I usually start with a Sauv Blanc. For me, the base isn't quite as important as everything else though. I have more than once just used whatever was available to blitz together something quickly. Peach Schnapps are a really good addition to either a red or a white sangria. Brandy is good to add for a red, and hard apple cider (or really any kind of hard cider) works well in a white. I also often add some flavored vodka--grapefruit and rose, or the peach ones from Ketel One are pretty good. Usually some triple sec for either red or white, and some kind of juice for either-orange, cherry, cranberry apple--that's up to you. After that, it's all about making it to taste. I also usually add a little lemon juice if it is too sweet.

@@ChicagoReacts Thanx! I myself am a bit of a newbie to wine so this vid helped me out. I heard that dry wine is an acquired taste, so I still like sweet and fruity wines for now, like I don't mind Manneschewitz or Peller Estates which my sister can afford. All I know is that it is a dessert wine from north of Niagra Falls and was $100 a half bottle at the time. Oh, one more thing. My nephew turned me onto Grand Marnier, and I only drink it one way: By the shot, no ice, inhale first, let it slide down the throat, then slowly exhale through the nostrils for that delicious burn. 😉 I also want to try meade someday. 😊

to further expand on Johnny Appleseeds whole bit, the main thing to keep in mind is that apples arent true to seed! apples, you see, are extremely heterozygous. essentially, every apple you eat is chock full of all kinds of inactive genes that arent currently being expressed for reasons of genetic dominance and recessively. /shitloads./ so even if you cross pollinate two genetically identical apples, the random recombinant genetic results will give you.. a random, shitty crabapple. it works out to something like one in every 80k random apples being table quality. so all of the apples you buy at any supermarket are grafts from the lucky lottery winner trees that produced something worth eating! so, in the end, its not so much that Johnny was spreading a specific type of cider quality apple. its just that any apple planted from seed is basically destined to be a shitty apple you could only use for cider. which /was/ the intent, but its a very different angle from the fancy grape varietals out there. also yes, that means any time a new apple variety hits the scene and starts picking up steam, someone hit the jackpot in their cross pollenization experiments in a horticultural lab somewhere. they just found granny smith apples randomly in australia sprouting from a bunch of garbage leftover crabapple cores Maria Ann Smith tossed out. it took them 43 years to figure out what they had /actually/ hybridized honeycrisp apples from! (maybe. they think.) apples are crazy!
