@@Fordo007 That's actually very easy to explain, the people picking staff and the people commissioning the ship are completely different and report to different bosses. Some info on the captain: he already had the necessary qualifications before transitioning from security to captain, the 2 prior accidents were minor ones, he did the sail by as a favor, eyeballing with landmarks in normal (though maybe it shouldn’t be), and his emergency instructions to swing the ship most likely would have cleared the rocks. Not as bad as it sounded so far other than setting the speed too fast for safety protocols, but once the ship struck the rock, the captain was as exactly as incompetent at handling the crash as he sounded. The complacent officers and the newbie navigator had a lot to do with the actual crash and they got off light compared to the captain. They all should have served time, especially the navigator.

No he wouldn't. Even if he'd managed to steer around the rocks, the only reason the rocks were a problem is that he put them in that situation in the first place. If he'd hadn't been lazy about checking their course, if he'd instilled better discipline and communication in his crew, if he hadn't been so cavalier wanting to go closer than he was told was safe, they would not have been close enough to the rocks to hit. You don't get to claim someone is a hero and a genuis if they save the day in a bad situation that they themself caused! That was the first mistake that you can KINDA take off the Captain's hands, like it's still his responsibility for sure, but it's whoever hired a guy that can barely speak english or italian as the fucking helmsman, and not even an experienced helmsman who's REALLY at fault for that. The first mistake (of MANY) that's REALLY and entirely the Captain's fault though is going as fast as they were. That is NOT ok to do if you're anywhere near a shoreline. If you're out to sea, go as fast as you're gonna go, unless something out of your control happens it's probably not going to matter too much. A large part of my family were fishermen and I've sailed on the Atlantic between Netherlands, Denmark, England, Scotland and the Faroe Islands in a sailboat, but the things a cruiseship offer are more interesting on land and then things a sailboat offers is more interesting at sea.

@@nodezsh language enthusiast here: Italian has two words for “penis”: “Minchia”, which comes from ancient roman Latin “mencla”, mostly used in Southern Italy and Milan; And “cazzo”, which comes from Latin word “cattia” which means “ladle”, the cooking spoon. It is unknown but it became synonymous with “dick” in the Early middle Ages after the fall of Rome. It’s like today a lot of young people use the English word “stick” to mean “penis”, and 2000 years into the future “stick” becomes a swear word and loses its original meaning, which is replaced by a new word. Or how the English word “cock” which just means a male non-castrated chicken now is also another word for “penis”, and in the future it might lose its original meaning.

Ship's cabins were small for our family of 4. But restaurants were great as you could get as much as you want as it's all covered by your ticket. They had a kids program for me and my sister that had fun activities. Had a nice arcade. Pools were crowded, had best pool time in the empty kids pool at the very back of the ship. Every night room service would clean the rooms and give us new towels that were folded into shapes of different animals. So that was a nice touch. Crew were all very courteous and professional from what I saw. Never had any worries or emergencies. Parents went on an Alaskan cruise a few years ago and reported similarly. All in all I'd love to do one again. I mean if the choice was airplane or cruise ship and I had to judge on safety... it'd be cruise ship. Lot more plane crashes than cruise ship disasters. The Costa concordia was owned by carnival. They are definitely a mixed bag on it's reputation. Sometimes I heard it's the waffle house of the seas. Other says it's the party line. Honestly not sure which is true lol

Cruise lines are a good way to get money back out of rich people while giving them a reason to spend. Bring the money back into circulation.

Is no one noticing how hard he’s asking them to pause the video?

With the Head of security to captian move, from what I understand is people who have the licsense or what ever it is called in sea speak often preffer to have a higher position over being a navigator of sorts when there is no position as captain available, so the captian didnt just randomly become captian from head of security, that would be very illegal.

"wait hold on" "hold on" "please hold on" "please stop" ..does his video is have unstoppable force or something? or somebody just took the spacebar key and mouse away from him?
@PhiNicMC3 жыл бұрын
Him saying "wait" feels like he wants to explain something but don't want to pause and its incredibly infuriating

Bro I have that same mic stand, glad I’m not the only one who decided to get the cheapest option lmao. Seriously it’s a solid choice for 13 dollars

Fact I didn't know before this video: "The captain goes down with the ship" isn't just some old saying; it's actually _illegal_ for a captain to abandon the ship while there's still people onboard, because they are responsible for their lives. Anyway, what makes this all the more sad is that it was all pretty much caused by bad communication and if Schettino had just done his job properly after the crash - like not trying to lie about it or abandoning ship while there were still passengers onboard - he wouldn't have been crucified for the incident nor remembered as such a massive shithead.

For everyone not aware, the second crash circa 2:40 was a photoshop, not the actual damage, he mentions it in his Concordia Q&A.

Adding on; There's also a disclaimer in the video, saying that it's a scene from "Speed 2: Cruise Control".

What is the point of cruise ships anyway? "Do you want to sink in the ocean with 3000 people but like 20 lifeboats? Boy do I have a place for you..."

Cruise ships are essentially giant petri dishes on water.

I love this reaction because it’s the same feeling as I felt: “fuck the ship, fuck the damages, fuck the money… 33 people died…” it’s unforgivable…a life has no price tag… you have 33 unfixable, intangible, priceless things… no money can buy… so fking stupid 😠

largest cruise ship disaster since the Titanic. Well yes and no technically not a cruise ship but a cruiseferry MS Estonia sank on her voyage from Tallinn, Estonia to Stockholm, Sweden when it sank and 852 people died.

ok i know may be dumb but it didn't seem that far from shore i think with a life vest you could easily swim to dry land i have been that far out in the ocean before.
