This has one of the most lyrical second movements I've ever heard.

Also known as the C minor oboe and violin concerto 👍🏻👍🏻 Such a great work.

No it's the double violin concerto in d minor BWV 1043.

@@lucpraslan I’ve also confused the two before - both arrangements are for 2 harpsichords in C minor

Idd, that figures. Harpsichord range in Bachs' days just 4 octaves from C tot c 3

The original concerto was in d minor. I wonder why Bach allways transposed concerto's when he transcribed them for harpsichords( or maybe the other way around, we don't know the chronology). The E major violin concerto exists in a keyboard version in D, the 4th Brandenburg in G has a keyboard alternative in F. Sth to do with easier fingering maybe?
@bartjebartmans12 күн бұрын
The answer is simple, is has to do with the range of the keyboard.
@christianwouters676412 күн бұрын
Of course, I should have known that. Range of harpsichord was only 4 octaves.
@Lucius_Chiaraviglio12 күн бұрын
@@christianwouters6764 Depends upon which harpsichord -- the harpsichords he was using in concertos had limited range, but harpsichords did exist at the time that had 5 octaves of range. And occasionally he didn't transpose, as in the concerto for violin and oboe in C minor(*) that stayed in C minor when he rearranged it for 2 harpsichords. (*)This was mistakenly transcribed UP to D minor when reconstructing it in the past, as was available in the 1970s.

To my ears Bach's in concertos for 2+ harpsichords, the soloist instruments sound like they are doing the soloing and the contiuo at the same time.

Exactly because it's pretty much what they do

Even to Mozart's keyboard concertos the fortepiano acted both as soloist and continuo.

I know this concerto as that on D minor for two violins. I really hate these arrangements the composers did on those times for their own works.

You hate Bach's own arrangement of his own concertos for his own use with his sons and students? How messed up.
