Nerve damage is a bitch on muscle. I had surgery on my right hand and something happened to my palm nerve. Now the muscle on my right palm, which was huge before, is shrunk to half its size. I think that's why Bas's right arm looks smaller now - nerve damage in the neck. His right arm used to be huge.

There was an amazing guy on the early UFC website that showed the fundamental moves ofJiu Jitsu. His name was Marc Laimon (of the Matt Serra incident). Marc Leimon was the cleatest teacher I ever saw in Jiu Jitsu.. He said that Bas Rutten schooled him completely in Jiu Jitsu.. and Bas has a photographic memory for moves. Marc defeated a Gracie at Jiu Jitsu. Shows what a remarkable genius Bas is.

This is a great video. What always baffles me is... I'm not a good grappler and I see mistakes like that in "street fighting" instructionals all the time... this is very basic grappling. Why would someone think he can teach you how to defend your life on the ground if he can't even get entry level grappling right.

Great stuff Bas, nothing worse than poor self defence. If it's a dvd then someone is making money from putting people in potentially dangerous positions!!!
@Cas_anova
@Cas_anova 9 жыл бұрын
Mixed Martial Help well, the first part of a self defence dvd (in my oppinion) should always start with "if you cant avoid the fight/confrontation.. then here are some options" I mean, i dont know the dvd he's reffering to, but I doubt that the guy was telling to try it on the street whenever you have the option to do so. avoiding is the best defence.
@MixedMartialHelp
@MixedMartialHelp 9 жыл бұрын
CaSdeStrontPomper Of course you want to avoid a fight where possible, but in the real world it isn't always possible. The point here is showing what wouldn't work, and why.
@Cas_anova
@Cas_anova 9 жыл бұрын
Mixed Martial Help true, I understand that. but eventhough the dvd sucks D, he's still not putting people in dangerous positions. neither is bas rutten. he has great dvd's but he's not putting anyone in any situation. a dvd can't do that.
@Cas_anova
@Cas_anova 9 жыл бұрын
as far as I am concerned, pretty much all the streetfights that I have seen could've been avoided by.. just being confident. not taking offence to words. but oh well. all I need to know is that I know that.
@Cas_anova
@Cas_anova 9 жыл бұрын
Aaron there will always be delusional stupid people, if you sell dvds or not. I don't know about muggings, doesn't happen where I live. If I'd be getting mugged often I'd watch my bodylanguage and how I come across. Like I said, most self defence dvds tell you "if you can't avoid it, here are some options" or something similar... so I don't know how that would make anyone feel invincible.. but I dont care about ppl like that very much. should they sell self defence dvds combined with an common sense explanation dvd?

Let me inject something here. Is there no damn escape from the arm bar? This move is thousands of years old already and what you can't escape from it? What if you practiced hyper extended your arms or something so you'd be real flexible? Like Dhalism from Street Fighter?
@samskillington401
@samskillington401 8 жыл бұрын
+FunnyAsSin Simple physics is the reason you can't increase flexibility. The elbow joint can only go so far before it, or the arm itself, breaks.
@FunnyAsSin
@FunnyAsSin 8 жыл бұрын
for someone that it isnt use to having their arm bend so far is what i mean. what if you stretched and stretched and increase the flexibility of your arm?
@samskillington401
@samskillington401 8 жыл бұрын
Bone isn't flexible like a tendon. It just breaks after a certain point. Its the joint at the elbow that prevents it from being bent back.
@FunnyAsSin
@FunnyAsSin 8 жыл бұрын
so there is no escape from an arm bar?
@samskillington401

I don't know what video this bullshit is on, but PLEASE don't ever try to learn how to "street fight" from a video. It will never work. After many years of street fighting, I can tell you this. If you want to be able to defend yourself on an everyday level (on the street) study Wing Chun and get on the wrestling team in school asap and stick with it until you graduate High school. If you're out of school already look for a BJJ gym Thay are all over the place. I live in NY and had a lot of fights growing up. If you're young and in school or have young kids in school, get them into Wing Chun, JKD, and BJJ if you can. You will NEVER have to worry about defending you and your family when out and you'll never have to worry about your kids getting jumped or bullied in school or walking home. Nothing makes anybody invincible, but knowing Wing Chun and JKD is damn close to it.
