Some info given by a commenter "Bryan T": 1 vital monitor can fit up to 4 beds. If you use this design you can use 1 vital monitor with maximum 8 hospital beds: rimworldwiki.com/wiki/File:8_hospital_beds_compact.png 1 multi analyzer can attach up to 4 hi-tech research benches. I personally went in game and did this, the description of these items could be confusing so it is good that we have clarity. But stacking 8 hospital beds up against 1 vital monitor could look very weird and same with the multi analyzers, but for those of you wanted to save resources, take advantage of these cheesy strategies.

Looks like low difficulty bases TBH, there're many improvements to be made to the design of those bases. Like: double wall the freezer, 5x5 rooms with dirt floors and a flower patch make for good bedrooms from the start until late game, chairs on fast work stations like stoves slow you down, hauling dogs are great, you shouldn't pile batteries like that as it's a fire hazard and leads to super high temps in case of fire, the vitals monitors cover a 3x3 around them so you can have 8 beds around it using a single one, never grow potatoes in hydroponics when you can grow rice, the workshop should have doors straight to the warehouse with the 2 tool cabinets at the center...
@jimboblordofeskimos
@jimboblordofeskimos 4 жыл бұрын
@@duende29 Yah, there is so much in here that is just bad tbh. 4x4 rooms with a basic sculpture or 2 are plenty. If you have the room, always double wall your fridge with an air gap in between the walls. If your base is somewhere hot/cold, airgap the whole damn base from the outside. Never strap too many batteries together, it just makes the fires bigger when they pop. Animals are amazing, they haul, they can fight, they can meat shield (tame and elephant or 2 and tell them their new home zone is the area right on that mech swarm that just dropped, then stand away and shoot down all the mechs as they swarm your ele) and if you get the right ones, they will live off corpses. Heavy weapons and armour should be stored by your defensive positions, not in some random store room you have to try and get your pawns to waddle to when the bullets start flying. Lighter weapons and armour should be worn, there is no reason for you to be taking a flak vest on and off to go to fights, they dont slow you down at all. The herbal meds will be rotting in the hospital. Keeping all of your explosives stored in their own area is half a good idea, splitting them up into about 5 is better. Sterile tiles make cleaning faster, they dont cut down on food poisoning at all. Stone autodoors are the worst of both worlds, more expensive to replace then normal stone and slower than wood or steel, you shouldnt use them. Wooden floors are ok, until you have a whole based burned down, then you never use them again. Honestly, any flooring is probably a waste of labour until you get very well established, an unclean dirt room can be better than a dirty floored one if you throw in a few statues. etc etc.

Ok here are some corrections: - For early game storage, make an extra outdoor storage for steel and stone blocks, because this stuff does not deteriorate - You dont need sterile tiles in your freezer and butcher room. Food poison is only happening when cooking in a dirty room, it doesent matter how the meals or the recources are stored. You can just butcher in the freezer with decreased work speed btw. Also food poison only happens if the room is "really" dirty, unfloored "dirtfloor" rooms are fine for earlygame cooking I would just build the stove in a regular working area, if its near the freezer - One multianalyzer is enough for more Hi-tech benches - The part with the energy consumption is confusing. Just follow a simple rule: 2 solar panels for one sunlamp + 1680W for the basins
@_tyrannus
@_tyrannus 4 жыл бұрын
The required cleanliness of the kitchen basically depends on the cook's skill, a low level cook will require a significantly cleaner/more sterile room, whereas a high level one can basically cook anywhere causing hardly any food poisoning.
@reinhards3158
@reinhards3158 4 жыл бұрын
@@_tyrannus I thought there are 2 fixed values: 1. Food poison because of lacking skill, reaching about 0,1% at some point. 2. Food poison because of a dirty room starting (?)lower% at -2 dirtiness and (?)very high% at -5 dirtiness(Max). The game will always tell which of the 2 things caused the food poison. So an unfloored room is fixed at -1 dirtyness and will never cause food poison because of a dirty kitchen.

@@_tyrannus Well some mechanics like cleaniness are very weird. I think it would make more sense, if it would be like you said. I never make or research TVs because I'm not very good, but I had a colonist who had an unlucky lancer shot that literally missed, passed three corners, and one-tapped this guy's spine. I had to keep him in bed for over four years, forcing me to make a TV and better medical equipment just for him to stay sane while I grinded towards bionic spines.

Wow... I watched it and realized I've been doing almost all of that for a long time (I play since A17). But firstly, from repeating the truth it doesn't become obsolete. And secondly, some of these things I had no idea about, so thank you for this masterpiece. For new players, I might be able to throw in some advices myself and support things said in the video. -I personally prefer mountain bases, as they have numerous advantages over normal bases. I usually build a segmented 2 tile corridor, and place the most valuable rooms and storages at the deepest point. Yeah it requires some moving of rooms from time to time as the base goes deeper and deeper, but it also ensures safety and multi-layered defence. In order to deal with infestations, just build the most gruesome, dirty and dark room in your life, preferably murder several prisoners in there so it just becomes a mix of rocks, dirt and blood... and don't clean it. Insect prefer to spawn there most of the times, but just a safety measure my base is segmented in such a way that I can completely seal one of them (sometimes with people still in there... yikes) and heat it up. Remember kids, your "priceless" possessions and several colonists aren't worth as much as the whole colony. -Always have several doctors behind the lines. One of my doctors is a great shooter, but he ALWAYS has the best gear, because just as in the real warfare, loosing a squad medic can lead to a very unpleasant end, and just in this case I have several junior medics on a standby during raid, so they can rescue people, and stabilize them enough so they don't die instantly, which ensures they are ready for a second pick up. One more advice. During the most intense battles, I usually lock up my hospital, and put several sleeping spots right after the entrance to my mountain base. So they can immediately drop injured people, patch them up and rush to rescue once again. Better move them to hospital later, than lose sometimes precious seconds to save the best shooter in the colony. -For late game, don't be greedy, and surround even the mountain base with 3-4 layers of walls. I might be paranoid, because I have VOID faction mod installed (ha ha... im in danger). But seriously, if you don't have killboxes, it can grant you precious time to create and think through your line of defence, including traps, positioning and equipment, because sometimes it's better to have at least 2-3h of game time to prepare, than to have none... which is... kinda obvious... right? Удачи, fellow colonists. And remember. War never changes. (BONUS STORY FOR THE MOST CURIOUS ONES. Has no meaning, just wanted to share) - I had a play through, where one of my best shooters/hunters got spine shattered after first our of playthrough and couldn't walk for literally 5 in-game years. colony just grew and grew. He got moved many times but never had a chance to walk by himself. Up until I got him a new spine and as a bonus a painkiller. He lived happily for a week, until the new raid came. Rimworld has no happy endings, so didn't this poor fella. He fought till the last drop of blood, and let his comrades get behind second line of defence inside the mountain. Raiders cut off his arm, cracked his skull, and delivered some permanent brain damage. Despite all this, he continued to fight, and never gave up, until he sustained maximum injuries his body was able to take. He single-handedly took out 4 raiders with his charge rifle and murdered 3 more with plasmasword as things went CQC. I want to believe, that these last days, were the happiest in his life. Almost from the beginning of the colony, where people struggled to survive, he saw what it grew into - a perfect place for anyone to stay, flourishing gardens and happy people. He didn't give away his life for nothing. He gave it away for future, and if not for him, who knows what would the outcome of the battle be. His name was Flusha The First, and he died on 21 of April, 2021 at approximately 16:30. I still remember him to this day as one of the most brave, and tough mfckers in any of my colonies. May his soul rest in peace...

Might be a weird request, but a guide specifically for Mountain Bases would be wonderful? I've always messed up with room sizes and organization for such bases, and constantly struggle to avoid those nasty cave-ins. I've tried to look for a guide video for Mountain Bases, but only find basic guides that don't talk about it much so I'd love it if it was taken into consideration.

Mountain bases are a pain , you end up with infestations all the time. You can mitigate this by digging large amounts of tunnels or if you wanna cheese place sleeping spots in all empty space. If you make a giant room leave the center un mined.

The only flaw I d like to point out is at 7:03. Huskies and Labs can be trained to haul and having a bunch of them around to haul significantly reduces the task load on your pawns and frees them up to do other stuff. Bonus: They'll eat anything including corpses and produce 0 animal filth. Give it a try sometime.

Something that works very well for the kitchen setup (especially for early tribals where your cook is going to spend a lot of time making pemmican) is setting up two 1-tile storage zones on each side of the working spot, one for meat and one for vegetables, and set them to a higher priority than your main food storage space. You can also set the pemmican recipe to "drop on floor" so there is no downtime in your cook's working time. It used to be possible to accelerate the process even faster by putting stools on both mini-storage zones so that the cook didn't have to take a step in each direction and so could spend 100% of his time actually cooking, but this is no longer possible. It's still really efficient though.

some tips that can help -make your dining area near or center the bedrooms, even better place it at the center of your base -make a small dining area near your defense zone, get a stack of packaged meal in those area too so you won't need refrigeration there, and some drugs like wake up and go juice would also help (in case of multiple raids) - if you are building a mountainous base, better to make another cave, dig somewhere far from your actual mountain base so that infestation would rather spawn there instead of inside your base (this will not be always the case, it just lowers the chance for it to spawn in your base) - for the dead raider bodies, make a room of stone blocks, remove from home area and make a stockpile for dead bodies there, just chuck a molotov if it gets full and lock the door, OR make it as a feeding area for your animals - if you have a pawn that is only good at shooting/ melee make that your cleaner and hauler pawn there's some more tips i could give but i'll stop there

I like to use a combination of a barracks and seperate rooms: I can save the rooms for greedy or unhappy colonists while keeping the more chill and easy to please colonists in the barracks to save space and resources. I also like to put double beds in all the single rooms to maximize the use of space for when pawns get married. A barracks isn't as bad as it seems at first because the more optimal use of space also gives better access to recreation and beauty which cna often make up for the debuffs anyway.

thank you very helpful tips, most of these will be difficult to use on a temperate swamp tho since theres a ton of trees, but at least you can use multiple wood generators since you will have abundant amount of trees to use.

If you hate the cabin fever debuff. Move all of your recreational items into a little garden outside your base entrance or into a backyard, put some columns and a roof to avoid them getting wet when it’s raining and preferably make them all out of wood so if the enemy invades and targets those you don’t lose that much materials

Watching this video made me remember when I started on the Rim right after watching a video on mountain bases and I was saddened and angry by infestations on my first game, I quickly found out the scenario editor and the "Disable Incident" button, let's just say that my base became a first world rim base.

Mountains bases teams are those who survive the longer, especially with a river inside a mountain, and sterile floor is expensive, and a little plus for kitchen

Don't use barracks beyond early game? I make a superbarrack combined with dining and rec room and put all my decor in it. You get spacious interior and 3 extremely impressive buffs for the price of building 1 big ass room (much cheaper than extremely impressive 3 rooms) and that more than makes up for the sleep and barrack debuff. You'll have pretty good moods without adding a lot of wealth, and you'll save a ton of electricity in heating

I always put one anti-fire foam thingy (srry i'm not eng speaker i don't know how it's called) in every hydroponic room... in small room with stone walls a short circuit can make an oven real quick. at least from my expirience, i've got a pawn trying to extinguish the fire and collapsing of heatstroke while it was still burning....

Why 13x15 when the room can be effectively 16x16 with a little more space for the trade beacon? Or is it to prevent the roof from collapsing supposing you don't build any wall/pillars 🤔

Mountain bases are best as the equivalent of cold bases, keep them as cold as your colonist can deal with and bugs can't.

Oh, dogs and cats give mood bonus by "nuzzling" actually! So its nice to keep a mascot dog or cat, altho multiple means more frequent nuzzles on more colonists, too many will just drain your food, plus you can train at least dogs to haul, good for moving corpses so pawns dont have to move rotting bodies, plus dogs can always chow down on the dead badguys And barracks are actually viable late game, a very impressive barracks with your dining and rec room together will provide way more mood in a much more space efficient layout then the -3 for disturbed sleep, since pawns mood hits for barracks go down when it is very impressive or getting there

I actually like the medium sized dogs (like the labrador) because they can be taught to rescue and haul things. I don't really teach them to "guard" because it might put them at risk during combat, and you can't put armor on dogs I don't think, but they are somewhat useful in my opinion

only the food prep room requires sterile tiles, not the entire butcher/food storage area you also can put the butchers table in with the food storage, just so long as its not in the same room as the stove for crafting rooms you can easily store items such as steel and components on shelves in the center of said rooms, keeping them out of the storage room and closer to any facilities that need them

Put refrigerators in your dining room to store your meals in. Faster for the colonists and less in & out in your main freezer for better temp control. If you have animals, make sure to have their zone exclude the area around your fridge(s) so they don't help themselves.
