There is one tip that I think he missed: not every fight is worth it, especially in the lategame. Building an emergency exit to your base and using it when the fight seems unwinnable to escape and resettle is not a bad option. It also breaks the gameplay and story monotony and imo is reallistic. Live to fight another day and start anew with superior pawns, equipment and tech.

@@sahal6905 When you don't have a gaming PC you don't want the game to save every few minutes automatically. Also, it autosaves based on the game's day/night cycle, so when you're planning a base the game doesn't autosave.

I'd argue wimp is a great trait. Since they are likely to go down before they die they are like a reuseable meat shield. Sure they won't soak as much damage but you can patch them up, stand by their medical bed staring at them and as soon as they wake up say "guess what?" then lean in real close "you're going back" Once had one so covered in scars and prosthetics... and insanely skilled from all the fights they were in.

Making floor on killbox with carpet and using molotovs are also great idea. Chemfuel stack by the enterance of the killbox also helps alot, enemies on fire won't attack before they extinguish the fire they are on.

Heavy SMG is actually a really good early/mid game weapon. I always laughed at it until trying it. Surprisingly its great vs centipedes. Skipping centipedes into close range and then stunning them. 6-7 colonists with Heavy SMGs just tore it apart.

Real quick, to be fair with CE, the “compatible mods” list is really only about weapons, armor, and pawns that aren’t patched to work with it. Most QOL mods and buildings mods will work fine with it, although if you want anything about the combat to be further extended you are definitely going to have to build your list around it.

For anyone wanting a Combat Extended-like mod but without fucking up your load order with patches and incompatibles, I recommend a combination of Yayo's Combat 3, Gunplay, Suppression and Combat Update: - YC has a lot of things from new animations, a simple yet non-mod breaking ammo system and tweaks such as making power armor impenetrable to low ranking weapons. - Gunplay is mostly a visual mod that drastically increases the speed which bullets fly which sounds like a minor thing but it really improves the feeling of a gunfight from a sort of derpy, lethal nerf gun battle to something actually threatening. - Suppression adds a hedeff that will slow pawns down and increase their aim time based on how much fire they are taking making stuff like LMGs more useful in their irl roles as well as making massed fire more dangerous. Personal note, its kinda hilarious with the Real Shotgun Patch because you can fully suppress someone with two blasts from it lol. - Combat Update helps with accuracy so that your legendary level 20 sniper can always hit things. That bit in the video where the guy misses a shotgun blast at point blank wouldn't happen with this mod as long as they were a competent shot. - Sort of a bonus one but Mortar Accuracy makes it so that skills actually affect mortars; shooting skill affects reload while intelligence affects the spread radius so they don't just fly way off course. Does this perfect mimic what CE can do? No, but I guarantee that its less of a pain in the ass to manage than CE as well as making you look like less of an ass for begging modders to make CE patches. Download all the races, guns, apparel and faction mods you want without worrying if they're compatible or not.

2:25 regarding grenades, I highly recommend in using incendiary against large numbers of enemies especially tribal melee raiders as the incendiary works wonderfully as what i call as a weapon of denial because every time it explodes it burns the area around it forcing the raiders to stop or slow down as they move around the burning area and if they are burned they'll run around in panic until they are downed or badly injured a frag grenade may kill/downed two or three raiders but by the time your colonist throws the second one the raiders are much closer and chances are you won't get a third time until you're forced in a melee, you can still use the frag grenades in small groups of raiders espcially armored ones as the grenade has really good damage.

I used a site (kinda outdate but w/e) that calculates gun accuracy in Rimworld and I cannot understate how OP go-juice is. That shit boosts your pawn's accuracy a LOT. It might have an insta-addiction chance, but for that colonists with a charge lance, you'll FEEL the difference it makes. The mood boost is also good. Also, if you have anything that stops pain, install it ASAP on your pawns. The consciousness debuff from pain absolutely WRECKS shooting and melee accuracy of your pawn, as well as a huge loss of movement speed. Just be careful and keep an eye on your pawns health, it might sound like it makes it easier to lose pawns, but arguably your wounded will move so much faster that they'll probably arrive in a hospital much faster than most others. P.S. I still savescum on occasion. Example: Pawn in wall cover with good devilstrand duster & shirt + excellent flakvest got one-shot through the heart by a single pikeman shot. Similar occasion to a pawn with an excellent plasteel flak helmet got one-shot in the brain by another pikeman. I used to think these fuckers were just weaker lancers, but lately I've just been always sending them melee fighters to distract as soon as possible, given their bullshit armor pen value. P.S.S I've learned to entirely avoid using melee fighters against mechs if I can EMP them, thanks to an occurence one day. I got a defoliator ship, a bunch of lancers and a couple scythers. all bunched up, ez to EMP most and fuck 'em up. Long story short, my melee fighters got EMP'd, lost their shield belts and one lost his leg to a lancer shot. The other had a BRAIN SHOCK (had never seen it happen before) due to my own EMPs, so the scythers managed to get to my ranged guys as they were still focusing on the EMP'd lancers. Nearly lost the whole colony, thankfully this last guy managed to kill the last scyther by meleeing him with his rifle. had to hault 4 bodies to the crematorium though.

You can use fire as a way to prevent raiders to go that specific direction. Might be useful. You should use uranium melee weapons, since they are best choice for early to midgame. Dont build inside a mountain. Very simple. You can use the "roof trap", basically one pillar with minimum health holds a giant area with roof. The pillar gets destroyed, everyone underneath is immobilized. Use rats against mechanical droids, they are numerous and deal good damage. If you raid a base, just build yourself inside a mountain, cover up your path with steel walls (very important), and watch them burn themselves to death. (only 2 issues with this strat: your small mountain room heats up, so be fast and can you mine and build faster then they can destroy? Cause you need about 10-20 steel walls) make sure they don't accidentally start digging for different paths If they almost destroy you, sacrifice one of your pawns to make them capture him and leave. Cover your entire base with concrete to give them 0 cover. (im doing that and it takes ages) If a psychic ship has landed, just give your people psychic foil and done. Let other raiders deal with that. The use of drugs is advised. You can always call allys for defense. Dont clean up after a battle. Corpses make negative buffs on attackers and are then more likely to flee the battle. +less work for you. Only allow psychopaths or someone who doesn't get negative buffs on corpses (idk who) to go to that area. Use corners of a walls for melee purposes.

I've had infestations appear in my reactor room (rimatomics) and wipe out half of the base because the stupid insects go "hey look a breeder reactor, wonder what would happen if..." and smash it. Never again. I now keep the reactor room below freezing and sometimes put an extra wall around the core itself.

I actually created an interesting solution to infestations in one of RimWorld bases. It was essentially a 1 tile wide long room that surrounded all of the rooms that acted like a ventilation system, and a room that connected to it filled with heaters. Not only was it surprisingly effective for keeping the base warm, but if my base was being attacked by an infestation, I could purge the base and kill everyone inside by setting the heaters to ~290F (143C)

I also liked that the new Vanilla Expanded Mechanoids mod forces to abandon this time-tested tactics. The aura, inquisitor and flamethrower mechanoid will force you to think outside the box. And the Carpenter mechanoid doesnt fight but dissasembles your walls, power lines and turrets in record speed

One thing I found about flanking is that it works EXTREMELY well with the multiplayer mod. For example there was a guy melee attacking my pawn and the other player went around a mineable rock (those walls with steel sometimes) and shot the raider from behind as I ran.

Few things to note - Spear is a good alternative to Sword - it comes with marginally (literally 1%) worse DPS, significantly better penetration and its damage is concentrated on single body parts. But, generally - uranium mace is a way to go with melee, unless you get good quality zeushammers or monoswords. Do not underestimate the primitive ranged weapons. You probably don't want to use them yourself if you have alternatives, but do not presume they are harmless. Pila have short range, terrible accuracy and DPS, however, they deal immense damage - and are capable of one-shot killing a pawn. Greatbow is also very dangerous because of its range - it is one of the longest ranged standard weapons. It is matched by Charge Lance, and is outranged only by assault rifle, minigun, sniper rifle and bolt-action rifle. This means that early game, tribals have a reliable way to force you out of cover, which is bad for your health. As for light weapons - machine pistols are great spray-and-pray guns at short range and are a good supplement against groups of enemies. I would personally avoid pistol and revolver early on - your pawns are likely to be terrible shots, you want as many bullets downrange as possible. Pump shotgun is amazing early on - but it is completely outperformed by chain shotgun, which is perhaps the best anti-infestation weapon, disregarding fire. Heavy SMG is amazing for killboxes where you control the range of engagement and for low-skill pawns. For the late game. Assault rifle is an affordable jack of all trades, but it falls off quickly against heavy armour. Sniper rifles - good to have a couple of snipers to take down enemies who carry missile launchers. Charge weapons - do not settle for one or the other - they complement each other. Have a lance for every 2-3 rifles, throw a minigun and a sniper rifle or two and you have yourself a pretty strong squad that should be able to deal with just about anything. As for affordable armour - One word - Devilstrand. Let's be real here - you are unlikely to be able to afford constant supply of thrumbofur or hyperweave. Devilstrand is the third strongest material in the game and it can be grown. So it is a good money maker and good material overall. Devilstrand duster and pants are better than equivalent quality flak coat and pants, and don't slow your pawns down. Flak vest and helmets are worth it.

The annoying thing about armor is that it degrades just by being worn and there's nothing you can do to repair it. I don't like having my hospitals near the front lines, but I run bionic vampires, so they can double up as battle medics to tend allied pawns in the field and capture raiders.

tip: put an orbital trade beacon in an open, not roofed space. With this, all drop pods that should drop in the middle of your colony will drop around this beacon instead. This includes quest rewards, DROP POD RAIDS (only the ones that drop on top of you) and orbital trader goods. Put the beacon right outside your killbox/defenses, or in a heavily fortified "internal" killbox and drop pod raids will never be a problem

For mountain bases I like to keep an outdoor section for storage and for any expensive buildings. Inside I use stone walls and floors but let everything else be wood construction and set flammable ied's in each room and a few wooden statues or pots in hallways. I've found it very effective.

Tripple 0 mod user here. This still gave me ideas i hadn't thought of. Like using the VE submersible walls to conceal an ambush turret line behind.

i usually wall entire colony but keep 2 large opening for entry and turret. they tend to attack furniture and facility outside roofed building instead of wall surrounding colony. somehow the sappers doesnt mine through 1 thick block of wall outside. not sure though since sappers raid only happen once for now.

Fun factz: a legendary plasteel longsword can do 41 damage and a legendary uranium club can do 34 damage, but ignoring sharp armor. Mechanoids and people in marine or good quality plate armor have a good bit of sharp armor, but those thrumbos that just walked into your colony don't.

Really great video Just a quick note on your weapons recommendation though. The pump shotgun is probably one of the worst guns, even in closer quarters. I would definitely recommend the heavy SMG. It is quite a good alrounder, just with not the greatest range, but amazing for killboxes and throughout pawn skill levels

I just wanna put a word in for the Heavy Smg. It's relatively low-risk for pawns with bad shooting skill and it pays off good for those with high shooting skill. The AR is actually quite a high skill weapon, while the pump shotgun can do a lot of damage is short range and if you miss, which you probably will since it's single shot, puts you right in knife range and the cooldown on it isn't the best. Chain shotgun is the best of both worlds except it's also short range, however it does a tremendous amount of damage.

My early game combat is always atrocious. I’ve never gotten to the late or even mid game because I can’t kill my raiders well enough. I blame it on having bad weapons and armour but I think I just don’t have a good enough defence
