Base Extension for Paver Projects | Hardscape Failure

Today we talk about a failure we noticed on our client's project from the previous year where there was not adequate base extension past the final paver to allow the pavers to sit on a solid foundation. As you can see, the pavers on the border are beginning to separate from the field and slide into the swale. We talk through this problem and what the solutions are for this.

Interesting that this video came up under a search for "Brock paver base lawsuit 2022". You mention nothing about Brock, and only briefly mention anything about these synthetic bases. BTW, it seems you are still old school in using a compacted gravel base. In New construction, are the synthetic bases used just over compacted sand, that is, the sand level is different than what was originally there?

That is interesting. We use different base preparation for different applications. We use dense graded, open graded, and synthetic. For synthetic, we use HPB or 1/4” clean instead of sand

I think ICPI actually wants 6” past the edge restraint, not just the paver surface.
