Definitely makes you stop and think. Most of us aren't going to have much heads up (if any at all) before we're just all of a sudden gone from this earth. Whereas this man probably was at peace with the possibility of his death well before he actually jumped, given that it's an obvious risk. We should all seek that out before it's our time, which could be anytime.

Skydiver here, what happened; his riser (small fabric above his head) got tangled with his toggles (lines that drop and allow steering by pulling either side) so he had no control. Don't spend more than a few seconds on a problem when you're that low. He could've grabbed the main lines of his chute and steered using brute force basically. Me being 15 at the time decided to risk it. And after they were safe, i then got dragged out. I was swimming for almost 20 min straight till i gave up. I put my head back and then i started having flashes and images of people i loved and cared about. I understood in that moment that it was my fate. I wasn't scared after that. Huge amount of courage to accept his end. Glad he made it out alive and landed in deep snow. Base jumping not for those who wish to die, but for us who want to truly feel alive. As nerve racking as it is to watch, nothing makes my palms sweat more than watching Alex Honnald free climbing El Cap. Now thats truly having complete belief in yourself. Anyhoo, safe travels and happy jumping!

Couldnt tell exactly what had happened, but it looked like he had a hung slider, and it kept his chute from fully opening up. It does look like he gets it pulled down into place, but couldnt recover from the spin that had started. BASE jumping there is no reserve chute, because you arent jumping from high enough to have the kind of time you need to jettison your main chute, and deploy the reserve, before you hit the ground. Unfortunately theres also not a whole lot of time to fix any malfunctions, like a hung slider. He did a pretty good job tho. He just barely managed to get enough of the chute open to slow him down enough to make a safe landing.
