Even though comparing the two is rather quite pointless as mentioned in the video, they’ll still do it. All for your entertainment! 🤣

I think it's important to mention that there are limits to the number of beanballs/bouncers that can be used per over in cricket. So it isn't an unlimited gaunlet all the time. Of course what differentiates a short length ball from a bouncer is subjective though and at the discretion to the umpire.

Ok so let me destroy a few of your points: 1. In cricket only the wicket keeper wears gloves. No one else. While in baseball everyone does. You don't need the person standing towards the outer ring to wear a glove unless you don't know how to catch a ball. 2. It's not all about speed and the size of the bat. Cricket bat is wider because the ball bounces. Adding a lot of uncertainty over the trajectory of the ball. Much easier to predict if it's just in the air. Shoaib akhtars 100mph ball is hence much tougher to play and requires a higher reaction time (since the bounce is also unpredictable) than the 105mph ball coming at you dead straight as a bullet. These are two different sports. You can't compare apples to oranges.

I have a few theories as to why every baseball player has to wear gloves. Keep in mind I've done zero research for this and you're welcome to call me out on my bullshit 1. For protection- Like the video said gloves are used to protect the fielders' hands not just from fly balls, but from throwing the ball to the other fielder. Imagine you have to catch a ball thrown by your teammate at 80+mph it's less dangerous if you caught it with a glove compared to catching with your bare hands. That's why positions like 1st base and catcher have thicker gloves because the ball is usually thrown to them the most. Not to mention that if a baseball is coming straight at a pitcher, he would have a better chance avoiding any injuries if he had a glove on. 2. Reduce errors- Cricket players have my utmost respect for being able to make bare handed catches, but let's not pretend they do it every time an opportunity presents itself. From what I've seen, runs are more frequent in cricket than baseball so they more often than not aren't able to consistently make those catches. 3. To hide pitches from the batter (pitchers only)- Pitchers wear gloves not only to catch but to hide the way they grip the baseball. If the batter can see the grip, they can know what type of pitch is coming and will be prepared for it and will likely hit a homerun. Just ask the Houston Astros.

Cricket catch is real beauty than catching with that big net glove 3. Cricket bowlers can hide/mask their grip without help of gloves 4. Cricket ball can go upto 120mph after hard hitting too😂 5.for baseball noobs Cricket batsman is not judged by contacts with ball like this idiot did this in video Cricket needs big runs 100 in white ball in red ball even upto 200-300 by single batsman alone 6. Hitting 1 homerun may be big baseball , in cricket it is very bad if u get out on next ball after hitting six 7. Gets cricket knowledge first then argue , using strategies that works with baseball are compared with cricket❌this is american style analysis Using nonsense logic to show american things higher Their is no match between cricket catch and baseball catch Baseball catch is even not considered as catch.. using that mammoth gloves Cricket may play with broken fingers but dont give excuses like ball is coming fast😂at 120 mph

I'm sorry... But this debate over which game is easier, can be settled scientifically and mathematically very easily. First, Have any of you read "Men at Work" by George Will? Read that before you embarrase yourselves further. That's just book. Easy to read. But first, we're talking about in one game, hitting the ball with a wide flat surface in a 360 degree field. As opposed to hitting a round ball 8n a 90 degree field. Right there , baseball wins the argument. But let's go further... In Cricket, you have 11 fielders in that 360 degree field. In baseball, there are 8 in a 90 degree. Therefore, the odds of the ball dropping between fielders is four times as great in Cricket as in Baseball. It would be the equivalent of 32 fielders in the circle. Again Baseball wins. In baseball, players are specialized by position. You don't have left fielders coming in to pitch. Why not? Because a left fielder, or a shortstop or any other position is not as good at pitching as a pitcher who does it full time, has studied his craft. In Cricket, everybody is a pitcher at some point....If they was any good, you'd only have the best one out there, not a collective. When's the last time you saw a Cricket player strike out? I mean take three swings and miss? Or even one swing? It rarely happens. That's because it's easier to make contact with a bowled ball . The percentages are almost infinitely higher in Cricket than Baseball. And I'll end with this... In Cricket ,there's only two stations to defend. In baseball there's four.much more complexity . The difference between a 2-1 count with a man on second base, and 0-2 count with a man on first can be expodential. Nuance...Baseball is a game of infinite nuance that can never be mastered. Cricket is nothing more than Home Run Derby.

I’d say in the short term it’s easier to score runs in Cricket. Look at average scores in Baseball, 5-3/2-4/6-1, etc. In Cricket, 234 could be a decent or poor first Innings score depending on context. A lot more “runs” happen in Cricket. I’d say though getting out is far more difficult in Cricket, and that losing a wicket is far more devastating in Cricket than getting a single out in Baseball. Baseball innings require 3 outs, and any given at-bat you are most likely going to be out even if you’re really good. Making it to base in the first place is really good, and unless you hit a home run, that’s all set-up for just 1 possible run. In Cricket, when you go to the crease as a batsman, you absolutely need to and are expected to score runs. Getting out for a duck is terrible and like hacking a limb off the batting order for that innings. You need to pull your weight, either in runs, rotating the strike, preserving the wicket, putting away bad balls and leaving good ones to wear down the ball and the pitch. Both sports are very difficult, but what makes them hard is quite difficult.

That's a very bizarre statement to make since the points system is totally different. So you can't really talk about the ease of obtaining points, without factoring in that points have different values between the sports. You only get 1 Run in Baseball for completing a entire lap around diamond. Whereas in Cricket, you can get a Run for every time you run from wicket to wicket. A Home Run in Baseball is equivalent to a 6 in Cricket also, but one gives you 6 points and the other only gives 1 point. But even then it's complicated because you can score a lot of points in Baseball if the bases are loaded when the Home Run is hit, whereas the maximum you can score in Cricket is a 6 Run (which in terms of impact on the overall score of the game is significantly less than a Home Run with loaded bases.)

Baseball is harder to play overall, cause, it isn't only hitting (that It is super difficult already) and there are several type of pitch (curveball, slider, sinker, spliter, change-up, and derivates of them like Slurve) makes it even harder, whatever, baseball you have to field and run, that part to me baseball is more difficult than cricket. Thats why baseball players looks more athletic or bigger than a cricket player. They have to developt power (physical) to be good, because you need to have strength to at least move the ball from infield or run the bases (the bases look close but they are not). And if we talk about being a pitcher in baseball, it's a totally different conversation.

Like it said the fielding on baseball is harder, look the infield fielding of baseball you have to catch 90mph+ balls (no homo lol) and throw, of course we uses gloves cause the exit velocity off bat of those balls are insane, more than in cricket (regular exit velo in cricket is 85mph in baseball is 103mph), so those balls are like a bullet in your hand. @@currywithstheshotboy3619 I have no doubt that the best professional cricket players could make it in MLB in some capacity. I've played both games at a modest amateur level and in my experience, it's easier to be competitive at baseball than it is in cricket. Without question, baseball pitching and hitting is faster than cricket and the ball gets hit longer. However, in cricket, only the wicketkeeper (akin to the catcher) wears gloves. Otherwise, fielding is with your bare hands and fielders can stand much closer than baseballers do. When batting in cricket, you expect the ball to hit you. If you're a good batsman, you welcome the ball being directed at your body. In baseball, you lose your shit if the pitcher tries to hit you. For me, this is the biggest difference and why cricket is harder to master. This doesn't mean I think one game is easier than the other to be better at. Both cricket and baseball are great sports, but in my personal opinion, cricket offers a wider range of variety in both batting and bowling. There are numerous different types of shots and various bowling styles in cricket. The argument that baseball's fastest pitch reached 105mph is impressive, but it would not be feasible for a baseball pitcher to reach the 100mph speed of a cricket bowler while adhering to the legal bowling action. In baseball, the ball doesn't touch the ground, and the pitcher throws it with full force by bending their elbow. In cricket, attaining top speed is much more challenging as compared to baseball. Bowlers are not allowed to bend their elbows, and the ball touches the ground during delivery. Despite these constraints, they can still bowl at speeds exceeding 95 mph, which is truly phenomenal when compared to baseball.

Yeah bowlers can still throw that fast because of the runup. But please, thats an unnecessary comparison. We can say it back by saying lets see your cricket bowler pitch 105mph with bent elbow without a runup,.. right? I can also say lets see your cricket batter hit a 450ft homerun with a round bat. It needs perfect contact to get the proper launch angle. Thats why its unnecessary comparison. It takes different muscles/technique to do different actions. We should appreciate each sports unique feats of athleticism.

One point worth mentioning, is in baseball they can drop the bat, in cricket, they cannot. Also in cricket, they are running with heavy pads and a helmet which blocks a decent amount of the batters view. Great video, just thought these points could have been put in. Not to mention, fatigue. Even in T20, a single Batsman could in theory bat the entire innings, but in Baseball each batter has his turn and then it gets a rest. Overall they get more resting time. Test Cricket is most definitely harder than than baseball, but that's purely because of the insane length of the matches. Honestly both sports are awesome and different which creates variety and that's always a good thing!

Nothing said about the effect the pitch has on a cricket ball. How a full pitched standard delivery in baseball is looked on as a " bad" ball in cricket. Cricket batsman have to constantly react to the varying bounce and deflection of the ball of the ground or pitch, both from fast and spin bowlers.
@billatkinson2077
@billatkinson2077 3 жыл бұрын
Like the commentator said it is pointless trying to compare the two sports because they are so different. Top speeds of bowlers and pitchers are similar but the pitcher delivers the ball from around 10% or 6ft nearer the batter than in cricket so that reduces the batters reaction time. However the cricket batsman has to react to the ball being bowled into the pitch at varying speeds and distances from him. Imagine a baseball pitcher doing the same and the batter still trying to react to a ball rising at him off the ground. So how can you compare the two sports? Both have very different challenges and are entertaining in their own right.

@Parker P. Correct. But the whole idea of cricket is that the batter is challenged to go on and on batting-not just three swings. So obviously this can only happen if hitting the ball and staying at bat is somewhat easier on a one pitch versus one ball basis.
@PFNel
@PFNel 2 жыл бұрын

@PFNel

@Parker P. It's a big bat because you're supposed to try to keep on and on batting. Cricket is not just about three swings. The at bat is meant to be much longer, so you have to have to make conditions more favorable for the batter. And don't worry, I know hitting a baseball is like trying to catch a bullet with your teeth! Not trying to minimize the difficulty of baseball at all.

They are both excellent sports and teach kids a lot of things about life in general. Junior cricket has adapted their game to follow what T Ball and junior baseball have been doing for over 50 years. I am not fussed with which game is chosen, I have coached both for decades. In my experience baseball is great for teaching teamsmanship It is the only sport I know where there is an official statistic for a player sacrificing their turn at bat for the benefit of advancing a runner on base. There is a letter written by great Australian cricketer Victor Trumper in 1915 held in a Sydney Museum. It was written by a kid asking for advice on how to improve his cricket game. Victor recommended taking up baseball to help improve aspect such as focusing on the ball for hitting and especially elements of throwing and fielding. Trumper was also a very good baseball player playing in his off season. Letter can be found with a search.

Here's a few points from a person who had been involved and coached kids at both sports for over fifty years. Firstly it is not correct to state a bowler can continue to bowl the ball at the batsman's head ad infinitum...the umpires are required to warn bowler after an allowance of ONE head high delivery has been sent down in any one over. The comment on batsmen being more skilled with placement of a ball in respect of gaps in the fielders. Take yourself along to any batting session of elite baseball players usually held two hours before a game (MLB) Batters are skilled to place a pitch to any part of the field depending on positioning of a runner on base to score. You are correct with stating numbers in cricket are bolstered by sub continent nations where well over 1.5 billion at located. How many of the population outside of the over populated cities have any exposure to the sport? Cricketers, especially those playing T20 / ODI, have seen a huge improvement in fielding techniques and skills in the last three decades or so. Much of this started when Australian Cricket employed the then National Baseball Head Coach, who coached the Aussie team at the 1996 Olympics, as the fielding coach for national cricket. This coach incidentally, has also been a fielding coach in the IPL for some years. People who simply do not know science and facts but want to argue their sport is better need to familiarise themselves with this or at least learn. Get to a cricket game early and watch the teams warming up and you will see what I'm talking about. The argument re balls is also madness. one is intended to give maximum performance by hitting the wicket surface and deviating the other has a totally different seam pattern and is designed to not come into contact with any ground surface on delivery. It is scientifically proven fact that in same for same conditions a baseball will move more in the air simply because the seam creates more air resistance. There are many, many more differences to be told but let's get out there and learn rather than mindlessly thinking one is better than the other.

Many people like to comment re "branding" a runner with the ball....It comes from the game of Rounders which many like to think was the basis of baseball. It was a rule of that game that hitting a runner with the ball in between one of the ten "stations"was a legitimate out. Of course rules changed when baseball's rules were compiled but the action of tagging a baserunner in today's game is thought to be a hang over. In cricket, the batsmen (batters), have to deal with both the swing and seaming/spinning impact of the ball with the air and the pitch, respectively. I grew up in Pakistan playing/watching cricket and now have spent nearly two decades in the US looking down on baseball like "chuckers throwing full tosses at batters and fielders strapped with a bucket on their hand" lol. I'm finally getting to learn baseball to enjoy both games instead of arguing which one's better. Going to batting cages alone was enough for me to realize just how hard it is to hit with a baseball bat, because the baseball bat is a like a toothpick compared to a cricket bat. I feel that batting and bowling/pitching takes significant skills in both sports because the bat, play area and the rules all have their pros and cons. Fielding might look easier in baseball because of the HUGE glove they wear, but baseball fielders have to decide in a split second which base to throw the ball to run a batter out. In cricket you only have two ends and the fielders still end up throwing to the wrong end on so many occasions. Fielding in cricket does look more spectacular though because in cricket the ball can go for a boundary, but not the case in baseball so fielders aren't as desperate as in cricket. As for catcher vs wicket keeper, I think the cricket counterpart has to have better reflexes to take those inside/outside edge catches in cricket, but catcher and other fielders in baseball have to be more alert with running/tagging batters out at four bases as opposed to two ends on a cricket pitch.

Cricket fans never complain about the gloves on the hands of catcher(baseball). They complain about gloves on the hands of outfielders in baseball. This was not a proper take. A more proper justification would be that, in baseball the play doesn't end if you catch the ball, you still have to throw it back. So you catch the ball with your non-dominant hand, hence the glove. Then quickly transfer the ball to your other hand for a quick throw.

Yes, and it's still a pointless argument. A wicket keeper wears gloves to do his job better. Baseball players do the same. If you arm Cricket fielders with gloves, they'd get more outs. The different rules of each game dictates how it's played and they CANNOT be compared. That's the point.

I would like to see cricket progress and accept bamboo bats as an alternative to willow ones, at least on youth/recreational/amateur/village/Sunday league levels, to boost participation. The research has been done, including how much the production would cost, how much bamboo you need, how long you need to wait before the bamboo is strong enough, its construction techniques, and its performance compared to willow bats. It's just so expensive to get into playing cricket because bats cost an arm and a leg for a regular Joe with a 9-5 job who is more likely to be dismissed for ducks than score hundreds, especially in the western world where you're likely getting ripped off by even the most reputable stores. It's the single most expensive piece of equipment in a cricket kit. Not to mention only English willows are used, and I'd be grateful if those can grow anywhere but even small Indian and Pakistani workshops import their willows to make bats. Kashmir willow bats are a cheaper alternative but then again it'd be nice if it can grow everywhere. In comparison, all levels of baseball below professional have widely accepted bamboo bats as an alternative for amateur/youth players who prefer that wooden feeling but don't have enough capabilities to generate good bat speed with real wooden bats. They're also much cheaper to buy compared to metal bats of the same certification. You can get three or four bamboo bats for the price of one metal bat.

The main point which I have always adhered to is that people who were brought up with cricket are better able to grasp it and surprise, surprise, the people who are brought up with baseball are better able to grasp that. Two major factors that make a big difference is that the ball bounces on the playing surfaces bringing in a lot of variables and also that in every format of cricket batsmen are expecting to be at the batting crease for considerably longer in a given innings if they are going to make an impact. To me this means they have to calculate scoring risks in a different way: reducing the risk in their single innings to allow them to exploit the more hittable deliveries.

I used to play rugby as a kid and would always listen to things like this being said about American football. People used to talk about how inferior football was because players wore pads and helmets or because the games were shorter, and didn't understand that they were just two different sports with completely different sets of skills required. As for baseball and cricket, I like baseball (go Yankees!) and would love to enjoy cricket, but they don't broadcast games in my country.

Different games, different rules. Pointless to compare them. Cricket is about skill, technique, strategy, endurance and adoption. Baseball is about power and timing. There are too many types of deliveries in cricket: fast, slow, in-swing, out-swing, reverse-swing, yorker, bouncer, leg-spin, off-spin, googly, flipper, top-spin, slider, zooter, doorsra, and more. Now add pitch condition (dry, wet, grassy, flat, bouncy, cracked, smooth), weather, wind, new ball vs old ball, line, length, and many other variables to it. It just gets mind boggling for the batter. There's no prediction. The batter must react in fraction of a second. Baseball doesn't have all that. There is one plane where the batter needs to focus and swing. There is much talk about how the cricket bat is wider and flatter and so easy to hit the ball, and "give a cricket bat to a baseball player and he'll hit every pitch". I don't think they can, because the average cricket bat is at least 20% heavier than the average baseball bat; making it that much slower to swing. Its weight, balance, size and shape impact the reaction time drastically, so no, I don't believe a baseball player can hit better using a cricket bat. It'll be worse for him. Cricket bats are designed that way for several reasons. One of them is so the batter can protect himself because in cricket, it is perfectly legal for the bowler to aim the batter's body. Imagine if doing so is legal in baseball and the bat is still the same. This is not to ridicule baseball, but just to show how different are the two games and how biased is this video.

Honestly, it all depends, on what you grew up watching or played when you were young. I've grown up and lived with baseball my whole life, so I prefer it. But, seriously anyone who says its definitively better than cricket or vice-versa is just a jackass. Its a completely subjective thing, we like what we like. Why should we give a damn that some person likes something else better. Some people just need a life I guess.

In that ESPN garbage(I'm sorry someone had to say it)of an experiment there was clearly a bias. You are pitting a player with major league calibre (MLB I suppose is the most competitive league in BASEBALL) with a cricketer who probably wouldn't even make the cut into an U-19 1st Division school team in India. Maybe the right comparison would be an MLB rooke vs an IPL/BIG BASH/other PRO T20 league rookies out there. Also under neutral conditions. Where the MLB player will be able to pitch the ball at about let's say 90M/H same as a fast bowling cricketer. Not feed the MLB batter deliveries like how they did in the video.

That's because they are allowed to bend every joint in their body. This gives you a better kinetic linkage and transfers all the power efficiently. It is the same as a volley ball/ badminton smash, just holding the ball with you. Try throwing a ball transferring power though every joint vs with a straight arm.

5:46 - That argument is just pure ignorance. For a bowler or batsman, wicketkeeper or fielder, different skills and more selective skill set is desirable. It is not easy to bowl in cricket or as I heard in baseball. So no comparisons there i agree. Cricket is a larger version of the game compared to baseball and to pitch for an entire day oozes the blood off you. To bowl specific line and length is to think intelligently and "predict" batsman's next move by analyzing his performance and mindset. Cricket is not an easy game and neither seems baseball from my watching the basics of baseball. It seems very very difficult to score a single run in baseball and fast action makes the ball almost impossible to hit. In cricket the bowler has to run or trot to the crease to bowl while thinking of a strategy , which is too much work literally for a single bowl.

I grew up, in the USA, with baseball as my favorite sport. However, I have read several books on cricket and watched many matches on TV. Of course, I think baseball is superior, but, I do admit my life situation have supplied me with a strong bias. The only thing I can point to in judging baseball superior is that baseball base running between the 4-bases (first, second, third and home) seems to play a more significant role in the game than the running between the wickets. I will say this. If I were to relocate to a cricket playing country, I am sure I would come a cricket enthusiast. Both baseball and cricket are fabulous games.
