As a softball player, I would say that baseball and softball have their differences that are necessary for how girls and boys are built differently. With softball it’s speedier because of the small infield and base pads and you have less time to throw it, whereas baseball has a bigger field and have more time to throw and get a better grip on it due to the smaller ball. It may be harder to field it, but I wouldn’t know since I don’t play baseball. I think they both have their differences, but baseball may be a little harder because of seeing the pitches being thrown. I think this argument should just be over with.

@@Bobbermes If only it was the pitching style that is different. Softball fields are smaller and the bases are closer than in a baseball field and the pitching distances are different as well. Softballs are bigger then baseballs but baseballs can fly further on a good hit. Baseball games last 9 innings unless run ruled or extra innings and softball games last 7 unless run ruled or extra innings. In baseball, wooden bats are used and tend to be longer while in softball the bats could be wooden or composite or even metal. This is coming from a softball player who wonders why we can’t stop comparing these sports. They are both difficult in their own ways and we need to just leave the opinions out of it and enjoy the games. In my opinion it doesn’t matter which one is harder because it’s hard for everyone, even professionals.

It’s seems kinda childish tbh, kids argue boys vs girls all the time, but overall, smaller target, faster pitches, larger distances to run, I think baseball is conventionally just more difficult, but it’s like comparing the WNBA to NBA players, the sports exist for a reason. Sports science did an episode on this. Their concussion was it is harder to hit a softball. A softball has more force behind it (Jenny Finch broke the pressure plate), you have less reaction time (43 ft pitching distance vs 70 ft.), and it is easier to bring your hands down than up (baseball pitcher stand on a mound and throw at a downward trajectory while softball pitcher throw rise balls). Anyone who claims softball is easier obviously has never faced a D1 softball pitcher.

Ok so I am a softball player and these are my opinions: 1. The ball hurts more and leaves a bigger mark when you get hit with a softball so players have to have a better pain tolerance than those who play baseball 2. The bases, pitching mound, and positions are all closer together so we have to be faster than baseball players while running, fielding, pitching, watching the ball, etc 3. @@Octuly Not really. Last year only 23 drafted players went straight to the Majors. What we're seeing in the MLB is the most developed versions of those college kids. It's almost like the jump of a high school kid to their redshirt freshman year. There's a big skill gap to cross from level-to-level to be competition-ready. Women don't have a league as rich as that to push their talents even further whilst their college resources are more comparable even if still lesser.

As a softball player (in my league) we don't get the same treatment as the boys do. Like how they have all the snacks, score board, walk up songs we don't get those... and I'm pretty sure softball and baseball are equally hard since they are complete different spots. @@fate6958 I like playing it. I don’t play often as much as I do ultimate frisbee or pickup basketball, but I still enjoy it. I also can hit it out of the park against any pitch. I always used to swing and that’s probably why I wasn’t great because I’d get frustrated after getting a fly out and then a K and then another fly out, and then finally a home run, and then another fly out and that would be my games. I say swing for the fences if you know you’ve got the power. You might just get a really solid crack on it.

I wouldt say softball is easier. It just plays a bit different. Pitches come at you differently, so it's going to be more of a challenge to adjust to it. College softball will change your thoughts on the sport

@James Alexander closeness isnt the only factor. Yes baseballs come faster, but the angle that the ball comes isnt easy peasy. There is different levels to it, and just because someone is great at baseball doesnt mean they will be great in softball. And vice versa. Higher levels show that it takes more skill for each sport. Field size isn't the biggest factor when talking about difficulty of the sport.
