What an unusually nice man, to make a movie and credit the people who saved his life, then visit the grave and family as promised, and mentioning his name so credit him and show his lifetime appreciation! YOU are a REAL QUALITY HUMAN BEING! At age 60, I was never in the military but have met alot of unappreciative entitled takers, and you are just the opposite. Your family is blessed to have you!!!!! It was an honor to see your movie. Again, you are a special person and the 2 men who helped you would have LOVED knowing they saved such a great man! How you have been in your life, and used that time is also a gesture of appreciation. Please feel good about yourself- you deserve to!

This movie had a different angle on soldiers and war than most Hollywood blockbusters. Although I was sometimes irritated by his honesty, in second thought, I admire the courage it took to actually publish this un-heroic story. Its authenticity shows that not every soldier is equally committed or devoted to aggressive action. They're people, often conscripted or obligated participants. If you're a train engineer, with no military heritage to prepare you for that kind of Hell, and then pilot an aircraft miles above the blood and guts and brutal horrors down on the battlefield, then you very well might not know how to look another young person in the eye and shoot on sight. If you feel morally devoted and focused on your wife and children, and all you want is to get out of there and go home to enjoy them again, no wonder you can look at these people - temporarily assigned by politicians as your enemy - and wonder if they're married with kids. Wonder if they hate the war as badly as you do. Plead with them to just put down your weapons and both go home to your families. Thank you for an honest portrayal of soldiers as human beings rather than some imaginary stereotype of heroic fighting machines.

A tale of courage and cowardice. The courageous GI and the Dutch farmer were men of courage. The British soldier was a coward in every sense of the word. Near the end of the movie, the Englishman tells the grave of the GI that he gave him the courage to fight and he didn't think he could. Well, he did not. When faced with an unavoidable situation, he shot the German soldier, but not out of courage; out of fear. There is never anything admirable about a coward.

How many of you are combat veterans? I bet not many of you are. Many drafted boys were never cut out for the horrors of war. Many were like this Brit. Too scared to fight. They’d freeze up and get killed and take several others with them in the process. They shouldn’t have been there in the first place. A terrible reality but that’s what you have to live with in war. This disgrace to civilization should be done away with at once. Heroism at command, senseless brutality, deplorable love-of-country stance, how violently I hate all this, how despicable and ignoble war is; I would rather be torn to shreds than be a part of so base an action! Do these movies not have any input from historical experts? The German uniforms are horrible. What airman would have a camo net for his helmet, let alone a helmet? And why would they gather German 9mm or 7.92mm ammo and not the weapons required to shoot it? Sorry had to turn it off. If you're going to make a historical movie, then at least make an effort to be somewhat accurate.
