Gardening is a hobby... and I love it... I grew 65 tomato plants in 2023... I'm going to plant 75 tomato plants in 2024... my neighbors love me and the big red tomatoes they get every week...

Thank you for the awesome comment! Yes, there can indeed be challenges, but it is very rewarding. Especially when it's cold outside and I can go down into my tropical space that's 70F and humid. I love the challenge of growing nice plants and trying to create hybrids.

I'm in a northern climate so trying to figure out how to insulate a basement greenhouse with concrete floors is a struggle. Love your setup!

I'm not sure how much farther north than New Jersey you may be, but you have options to insulate. You could use the 1" reflective foam board over a vapor barrier. You could also possibly heat with a heated floor mat and/or warm fountain. Every methodical heat source will help. Once it's sealed, drafts shouldn't be an issue. Thanks for stopping by my channel!

Love your videos, came upon them recently, so just catching up! Can you name which of the motionland misting systems you use in the video (the powerhouse)? Would you suggest it for mounted orchids, or do you think a drip system is a better choice? I don't have a tent or greenhouse.

Thank you for finding my channel! I'm glad you enjoy the videos. The Moistenland Mister I hang from the ceiling. It can be used with misters on a table to work like a drip line also. If your area can get misted (wet), it will work great. The reptile fogger I use in the Terrarium. This works great to keep the environment super humid without actually spraying water. This might be a good option for you if you don't grow in a greenhouse or some environment that can get wet. If you have excellent air movement with fans, then misting can be a good option, but water cannot sit in the crowns of the leaves or youbwill have rot issues. A Terrarium can be a fun project and a great way to go. Best of luck!

Totally valid question. My basement doesn't leak and it wasn't sealed when I moved in. There were tons of plants from my old place that I needed to get set up here. I didn't bother painting the wall, but yes white would have been great to bounce the light. I could still do it. I am able to grow plants all year long. My lowest temp without a heater is no lower than 59. The max temp is like 78 in summer.

I actually do have a small Pitcher plant that I'm attempting to grow, but they seem to be a little finicky. It's still small right now, but fingers crossed it will take off as we head towards spring.

Thank you for watching! It's 10mil greenhouse plastic from Greenhouse Megastore (online). I went with thicker plastic so it helps trap heat in a bit more; especially since the rest of the basement can get cooler. It has worked well. Be sure to get mold resistant pain and paint all surfaces facing the brick and where the plastic lays on top. This will prevent mold. I have also used pressure treated wood on the bottom frame in case the floor gets wet. So far, so good. I hope this inspires you!

I do indeed! Mine has been running strong for well over a year. It runs a few times per day (everyday) - no issues. You can use any reservoir of your choice. I use RO water just to prevent spots and clogging of the nozzles with just 2 drops of Physan 20. The system works great!

Thank you! Electricity can be a little expensive. I have an energy monitor in my breaker box. With 12 hours of lights on, it costs around $55/mo. This is NE USA. If you are going to build one, I'd use a couple of the large ones like I have in the middle hanging from the ceiling. They are super bright and probably 2 or 3 could cover a nice area!

I have considered doing this in my basement, but I am worried it cam create mold with so much humidity. How do you make sure mold doesn’t grow?

That is an excellent valid concern. Most basements are already fairly high humidity (above 60%). I would ensure you can have your greenhouse near a window for ventilation in the warmer months. Also, I would seal the ceiling with reflective foam insulation. It's not that expensive. Outside of the greenhouse I do run a dehumidifier for any escaped humidity. I haven't had any mold issues. If you use multiple fans in the greenhouse, this will also benefit the plants and eliminate stagnant air. I hope this helps.
