I've commented before on your damp proofing. I'm convinced that there would need as much water falling, or rising, as when Noah built a boat. No water or damp is going to penetrate the structure. Still fantastic seeing the brilliant work.

No one here can disagree with that Andy but because we are below ground on two walls it’s more of a belt and braces approach and with a warranty it keeps the customers mind at rest

QQ fellas - how would the tanking drain exit the building in a true underground basement? Would it have to run to a soak away or would it need to find its way to the sewer/surface water line? Love the in depth way you cover every aspect - keep it up chaps 🎉🎉🎉❤❤
@Mr_A_Builders3 ай бұрын
Hi Phil. In a proper basement they would fit a sump pump at the lowest level normally in a hole and run a pipe to outside from it. The pump would pump water vertically to an exit point outside the basement. Hope this answers your question

Was it just me who has audio slightly out of sync with video? Great watch though, was good to watch the process without the stress of my own basement being tanked a while back.

Right at the end was a bit out of sync but I didn’t realise that until it was too late. Not sure why it happened. At least I know somebody watched the whole of the episode

Great video. One comment about outer frame being wider than window/ side panel outer frame. Ask suppliers to use heavy duty outer frame so outer frames are the same, makes it easier for Matt.

Great video Rich, I’ve never really understood tanking apart from that it is a moisture barrier and I didn’t realise that you had to install a channel to take any water entering away. Great explanation and I have a better understanding. Great stuff 🙂👍

When I installed Newton 300 lath at house refurb I did I went round with yellow line marker prior to the install and marked dots where I needed to put the 'nails' in. This meant that I could ensure centre of brick for every nail and speeded up the install ( which was good because when I did it the instruction from Newton was drill the hole, squirt in Newton mastic, put a ring of mastic on the dry side of the lath then drive the nail in, all pretty time consuming). We've been really happy with the result, twelve years later and not the slghtest hint of damp.

Very interesting stuff! One question: it wasn't clear to me how the draining channel went in. I assume holes were punctured in the black vapour barrier that seems to wrap around them? Otherwise not sure how the water would get in.

Richie re the tanking unless I missed it you haven't shown how they have jointed the ducting around the perimeter? when we last saw it it was laid in place, mitred and butted but not jointed, regards Nick
@xcel33533 ай бұрын
Why not external wall tanking,sealing? External tanking acts as a barrier between the ground and the outer layer of masonry. It prevents moisture from forcing its way into the masonry through weak areas such as wall floor junctions
@jjfarrell93493 ай бұрын
Good stuff. Would have liked a bit more detail of how the tanking gets penetrating water into the channel. In some places the channel appeared tp be behind your under-concrete DPM so water could flow behind the tanking sheet into the channel. In others your DPM appeared to be attached to the tanking sheet, then the channel placed inside it - I don't see the point of the channel in that case, no water can ever get to it. The floor tanking sheet is apparently now going to go over the top of the channel, so perhaps the assumption is that your DPM sheet under the concrete can (or will) fail in which case it doesn't matter where it is with respect to the channel.

Interesting seeing the tanking process, not something I have ever been involved with. The tape backing paper strewn around at 28:03 though would have driven me crazy, i like to have a empty one ton bag to hand for this sort of waste and put it straight in rather than having to pick it all up later.

With the cat flap, sand it lightly with 180 grit sandpaper then a coat of zinnser bullseye followed by a coat of dulux trade satinwood in the closest grey you can match too. The satinwood finish is close enough in sheen to the pvc foil, I have done this several times now.

Looking great! Never knew that tanking was so involved after watching the garage conversion episode! Did the vertical channel you cut in the blockwork on the utility room side ever get used for something? Can't remember what the purpose of it was now, sorry! Keep up the good work!

How is the water going to get into the channel when the dpm would stop it or am i missing something? Shouldn't the plastic drain/channel be behind the floor dpm to allow it to carry water away from the walls the way you seemingly have it would just let the water build up behind the membrane with nowhere to go

Shouldn't the tanking drain have been inside a channel in the concrete floor to collect the water? The way it is installed water will flow under the insulation, Any attempt to flush will pump water under the insulation as well.
@25zerotwo3 ай бұрын
Think the aqua duct is sealed at each join, so it will stay within that channel. There are trench versions, which include a sump, but given how this floor will be built up, the system seems wiser.
@clivelockwood32363 ай бұрын
that's what i was thinking, surly the channelling now is doing nothing.
@RS-ei3yt3 ай бұрын
I hope the team can comment n clear this up
@karlj84183 ай бұрын
@@25zerotwo Maybe but the water will go to the lowest point and the floor I assume is level. This means the water needs to get up to the exit drain height which is at least 10 -1 15 mm. I would have nice to see the flush demonstrated before the insulation was placed down
@karlj84183 ай бұрын
After watching again, he says they will put the membrane all around it. That did not happen the membrane went behind the dmp. This means all the water will go behind the dmp. I don't think the drain has much of a purpose apart severe flooding mitigation. If the insulation gets wet will it dry, will it affect the performance?
