I bought arch nemesis bar when it first came out, before they added the "knurling". Product availability was the main factor and I always figured I would upgrade to kabuki down the line BUT in my 11x18 foot home gym its actually really nice having a 24 lb, shorter length bar to maneuver around the gym. Rogue hg collars work perfectly with the sleeve diameter, and rep's round sandwich j cups make them work in my 41" wide PR-4000. I have absolutely no complaints other than the lack of knurling and won't be upgrading to kabuki until I move and get a bigger gym. Still, its a bit of a shame for Kabuki's great idea to be knocked off.

I have had the kaddilac bar now for a little over a year now. I really like it and find myself useing it alot for bench, bent over rows, and maybe my favorite it the overhead press. i find it really gives my shoulders a brake to use that bar a bit than go back to standard bar. it has also helped me increase my strength in all of those lifts. I have had one of the bolts come loose on it so check on them every once in a while. i wish it was all welded togother or better yet the assemble like a standard bar that spins. Thanks for all you do on here.. Nice to see im not the only guy spending way to much money on his basement gym. :) I noticed the new roque trolley. I just got the new version in 3 weeks ago. the fit and finish and design seems great but so far I dont like it. Im really struggling with the amount of time it takes to set everything to use for a lift and the constant guess and checking to see if you have either the trolley in right position, the handles or weight post and the safties in the right position for the lift your are trying to do. Some lifts the swing angle just doesnt work like the barbell hip thrusts. Maybe i will learn to use it better but right now im disapointed in the $1500 i spent on it with the articulating handles. I wish it would come with the standard handles also at that price.

Adding some grip tape, throwing some 10lb bumpers on first and using PROLOC2’s on there more than make the difference when it’s 1/3rd of the cost. If you’re a garage/basement hobby lifter I don’t don’t see the reason in buying a Kadillac when that $400 can be spent on other things in the gym

@@brandonhoover2120 That’s fine for you, I’m just cheap within reason. The TITAN Series rack I just got this month looks just as good as any Rogue Monster I’ve see(though I was sad they didn’t have it in that Toxic Avenger green like Rogue does) and I don’t think I’m nearly strong enough to justify spending $600 on any bar, let alone a cambered bar. If build quality is still your concern the Elite FTS American Camber bar is around $365 shipped, still coming in under 2/3rds the price of the Kadillac. The hole in the earlier Kadillac bar version was to hang it during power coating. It was never intended to be used by the consumer. Kabuki has since developed a way to powder coat the bar without the hole to hang, which is why it is no longer there.

@@BasementBrandon - 5:01 - Yep - Initially, Kadillac bars used to have a hole in the center (it was used during the manufacturing process, but also an eye bolt could be mounted in it) allowing cable machine use possibilites. By the time I got around to ordering my Kadillac Bar (8.2020), Kabuki had already removed that "hole" (insert George Carlin reference here) as well as my own question about said "hole" that used to be part of the Kadillac Bar's "Q&A section" of its product page - these 'removals' did not sit well with me and a few emails were sent back and forth. (Who am I kidding? I don't actually have enough room in my garage to allow the Kadillac Bar to be used for cable work - BAH!) Well, at least we now we have a means of determining an "early edition" Kadillac Bar (from those produced around 2020 and afterward) when buying a used Kadillac Bar, so there's that. I was going to include a corny 'play on words' (merging the word 'Kadillac' with a certain 'casedemic term') in this comment, but I decided I did not want it to get flagged, removed, etc. "The fear of censorship is strong with this platform.. it is" - YODA

Kabuki Kadillac was the first and currently only specialty bar I have. I have some shoulder impingement issues that I am about to get fixed here shortly and I wanted to get strong before my surgery. This has allowed me to bench anything, and actually get some muscle back. I could not get under a bar and bench standard without pain for years. I’ve only had it for a couple months and I would say it’s worth every penny for anyone fighting an actual issue with their shoulder. TBH, I don’t even think it flips that much, it stays basically solid unless you push it over. The grips are great. Even when I’m done rehab, this is going to stay on my bench as my standard go to bar for bench, I don’t think I’ll ever barbell bench without a neutral grip again as my go to movement.

thanks for the comparison buddy. I was hesitant at first given the price difference between the two. I almost fell for it but finally jumped on my first Kabuki product, a blem Kadillac bar. While the bar offers the best experience of the market, I am still puzzled at the high price that it commands. I love Duffin's ideas and USA engineering comes at a price for sure. However, while the camber part is nice and feels heavy duty, something about the sleeves mainly makes the whole product feels less expensive (trying to avoid cheap here) than it costs...I'd prefer chrome sleeves. Those zinc plated sleeves with grooves scratch easily and overall don't make me say "wow" this is definitely worth it for a 1k bar (canadian for me including shipping). It's worth it if you want the best, but I still think the price is mucho steep for what it is...I still love it very much though !

Brandon, I’m a new subscriber, and watching your videos from a while back to now is truly inspiring. You’ve come a long way, and that’s the American way, your hard work has clearly paid off. I have a question you may be able to answer being your so educated on equipment: Why is it that in many cases for one type of bar, plates, or other types of gym equipment there appears to be “somewhat inexpensive”, OR “Uber” expensive? I’m not factoring all the crap on Amazon, I’m just asking why isn’t there a “middle of the road” option so to speak instead of $200 vs $600?? This pricing seems to be kind of paralleled in many other gym products. Aside from the American vs “Import” common denominator, is there just not a market for well made equipment that’s not over the top expensive? I feel REP Fitness fits this mold a little, they are well made products (still imported) but with somewhat middle tier pricing. Not sure if there is an easy answer to this, but I’d like to hear your thoughts since I’m new to buying LOTS of new equipment for my garage gym….thanks for the videos!

Hey Brandon. Great comparison. Its funny I am trying to save up for a home for my family so I can afford to get these bars, however I think the Kabuki is out of budget for me. So the only Yes4All one I know of is a flat multi grip bar. I think the BoS one having a camber makes it more versatile, but if you're balling on a budget, I'd go with the $75 Yes4All one and do similar to what your friend did and upgrade down the road.

@@BasementBrandon - Right after its arrival, I had Kabuki start the process of replacing the sleeves of my Kadillac Bar (as they were apparently going through some new contractor-related quality issues during the casedemic) and the welds on my sleeves had "splatter" that wasnt removed and the coating was not consistent, so rust was starting to form right out of the box near the welds as well. @brandonhoover2120
@brandonhoover2120 2 жыл бұрын
You hardly notice a difference in knurling vs the coating on the bar. Especially for a specialty bench bar. It’s not like this is getting loaded with enough weight in movements that need it enough. And you say bolt together as if it’s a bad thing. Unless you’re Julius Maddox, a bolt together is absolutely fine.
@collinsmith1345
@collinsmith1345 2 жыл бұрын
@@brandonhoover2120 I’ve felt the difference between knurled grips and spray on grips and it’s a huge difference, especially at a premium price. And the difference between bolt on vs welded has nothing to do with me being Julius. Over time, it’s another bolt you have to make sure is tight. Those will loosen.

Not sure if you’ve used the bar or not but the grip on this is actually very “tacky” if that makes sense. It’s not knurled, but you’re not missing out on anything other than to say it’s not knurled.
@Xplora213
@Xplora213 2 жыл бұрын
Knurling should make a slippery bar more sticky and a neutral grip bar does not have the same twisting motions to bring stability like a straight bar, so it’s much less of an issue than a squat bar or power bar. Knurling requires solid steel as well and that bumps up the weight enormously.

Kabuki bar: $922 CAD shipped w/tax. Arch Nemesis: $243 CAD w/tax. Uh...is it worth four times the cost?! Come on manufacturers. There is NO WAY it costs 4 times as much to make the Kabuki bar. @BasementBrandon
@BasementBrandon 10 ай бұрын
I think if you compare base prices ($495 vs $200) it's a more fair comparison. One is made in the USA, one in China. One is twice the weight with finer finishes. I think for about 2.5x the cost you'd agree the Kabuki is a lot nicer. Now for your scenario, not quite the same since a lot the cost is coming from shipping/import fees.
@karlhungus545
@karlhungus545 10 ай бұрын
@BasementBrandon I get what you're saying, but all I care about is what it costs me, not what it costs people that live in the US. There is a big, big world outside the US 😉 I'm not disagreeing it's a better bar. A lot of it is the fact that these are very niche products, which makes them expensive at such low volumes. I can't think of anything that I'd pay 4 times the cost for when it's a substitute good however.

We have seen a few Chinese copies pop up like the Nemesis recently and things like rack fit and axle collars and balance are not trivial issues. Your face is at greater risk with a large box instead of the thin barbell with safety straps. Facial surgery and dentists costs way more than the savings. Everyone has options and I am always in favour of a consistent innovator like Duffin and his team rather than cheap imitations. The innovation Nemesis gave was cost cutting which Duffin already rejected during his own R&D. I continue to be a hard headed SOB on this topic. Yes, if you want a guitar amp and can’t afford one, getting a digital amp is a great idea. But don’t pretend the crappy Chinese copy proper amp is vaguely similar in quality. In this case, just using dumbbells isn’t a crime if you need a neutral grip. Or... spend up and get yourself a real Kadillac if you’ve spent years on a barbell and just can’t handle it anymore.
